jayce would be healthier as a bruiser than as a long ranged assassin sniper

Seriously, i've been a jayce main for 6 years now, please listen

Jayce is a lane bully, something that is honestly a shitty thing to deal with in this game that riot has said isn't something they really like

His early game leads him to rush some lethality and a cleaver, his builds are usually akin to something you'd see on zed

Now if you look atjayce he's not registered as an assassin, and his release was during the reign of fratmongs (frozen mallet+atmas+warmongs)

He was designed initially to be a sheen user, and a tear user.

Ok so trinity force with a low cooldown champion is actually pretty good interaction, it's fluid and allows a level of mastery, but it doesn't quite stack up they way it did once upon a time.

Now due to bad scaling mechanics jayce seriously just builds lethality and nukes people from a screen and a half away, he's balls against tanks after lane phase, he has too much cc for a hard carry champion

that being said, His CC, his interaction with tear, and his general lane as well as his actual aesthetics of being manly as fuck lead me to think about this

Rework jayce's scalings, and here's how

His melee W and E should deal physical damage

His scaling should be reduced while his base ad should be buffed, This would encourage the use of tear

Steraks when built on jayce should work in ranged, however, this would be designed cautiously.

Jayce should be encouraged to build hard pen and at least two tank items, not lethality, the reason being is that the champion has low cooldowns and quite frankly hits like a fucking truck.

Bruiser jayce is a playstyle that requires mastery but shows the potential of his utility. Lethality jayce.... as someone who is fast approaching a million mastery points... is easy as hell and doesn't require complex knowledge of a six move low cooldown champion with a lot of intricate interactions within his kit.

Now the q+e combo on its own has four variations that i can think of off the top of my head, including the close shot (Standard when you drop the gate as close to you right as you're firing). the far gate (When you're making a semi hard shot and don't want to risk mana, so you use the gate at last second when you've determined if its gonna hit or not), the kitegate (E first, run through for movespeed, fire behind you at the prick trying to kill you), in addition there's a fourth combo which is more or less of a zoning tool where you drop the gate so people stay out of your line of fire and you gain some presence control for a team fight... which is rare but it can happen

Then there's the ranged W interactions, like W>Sheen>R>Q./sheen(instant)> AA>W>Sheen>E+AA timing (thats just one combo, mastery gets you a lot more combos and gives you a lot of situational combos as well, since you can break up your damage really well Such as Jumping on a clumped low adc+tank+apc and knocking the tank back with your E after you kill the adc, this gives lots of time for you to kill the ap carry before you're stuck slapping noodles against a tank if you don't have an LW yet )

Then there's the cool shit like learning how to wall jump on jayce by getting vision and picking a mob to q to, there's the bonus resistances when he is in melee

Now here's what the majority of casual jayce's know:

two lethality items, cleaver, Q+E, maybe a ga... melee to 1shot dem squishies with your duskblade (opop) every fucking match, they only use one rune too, it's annoying and overtuned because of poor balance

Let's be honest, there's a good champion to be had with a scaling rework that would essentially force jayce to be a durable hard pen fighter who does more or less equivalent lowish damage to both tanks and squishies but has to survive long enough (through build and skill) to do it.

And then we have what we see today in ranked globally. which is unhealthy, unweildy, and undermines the champion.

make a jayce that people want to build items like iceborn on, or frozen mallet so he can stick, make a jayce that has to stick because a screen and a half away is too far for a basic ability nuke, and reducing the range would completely kill the point of the ability. Make a jayce who requires the wit and tactical awareness that befits a champion who is sold to us as a genius

and finally make a jayce that doesn't ruin the game for their opponent in lane

Jayce's identity right now is that of a fighter, not a sniper, right? His playstyle centers around his versatility in combat. He's not too tanky and he doesn't do too much damage. He has sustain, peel, poke, all-in potential, and utility in his kit. His w/r and play rate is healthy. He feels good to play. He has glaring strengths and weaknesses. All of this adds up to one healthy champ.

The only way Jayce is every going to be healthy is if they remove hammer E.

II actually disagree, if we reduce his ability to just max lethality then his E would be fine, people make a big deal out of a disengage like they can't find ways around it.

His E is integeral to his kit because of his lost resistances when swapping forms, he needs the disengage of some sort, but he shouldn't be so oppressive as far as damage output early game if it remains the same.

His identity is that of someone who builds literally item 3142 item 3147 item 3071 item 3009 item 3026 item 3036 and hits q from a screen away from the edge of your vision to deal a massive chunk of hp that bypasses armor

An example of a healthy jayce would be something more like (lets say he's against an irelia or a riven and there's an ap jg/mid/support) item 3071 item 3812 item 3022 item 3026 item 3156 item 3111

Why this? Because he should have a kill window of 3-5 seconds as opposed to his assassin level 1-2 second kill potential

I'm saying to encourage the armor bypass and reduce his damage while giving him a bit of defense for compensation

jayce doesn't have sustain outside of his melee W, which is actually inho an unneeded passive because it effectively results in the same thing as having normative ability costs and normative mp/5.
