So we had this enemy illaoi who steamrolled our Jax and was like "Lol only 2nd game, I skilled." I told her Illaoi is like Jax's biggest counter....
She then said no, that all he has to do is wave manage and freeze and he wins lane for sure.... But can't Illaoi literally like not let him farm, because her kit just makes his life pain? I always thought Illaoi was a huge counter to Jax? Is she not?
zacktootall4 votesif she is a direct counter i do not know but her kit really does give her the edge over champs like jax. the illoai you where talking to is the kind of person who (after taking quite a few people with them) would get banned do to that kind of behavior
nananananacat3 votesIf Illaoi plays well, the lane is actually hell. She'll zone you off with massive poke with her E if you freeze at tower, or W + Q. You can't all-in her unless you are certain you can dodge all of her tentacles. The main thing in lane is** DON'T GET E'd**. It's a lot easier said than done, and it's honestly too easy for her to poke Jax out because he has no ranged abilities. Later into the game, my only advice is: Don't fight her 1v1 and don't fight her inside her ult.
Also remember her W does a lot of % health damage so if you do all in her, make sure you E that.

Astôlfo2 votesHe just sidesteps all her skillshots and farms. If she tries to do anything, he can just stun and back off. And if he dodges her E, then he can can shred her in a 1v1 fairly easily.
Fatchicks r us1 votesHavent played this matchup yet but here's some points I could make: -Jax isnt very meta in diamond+, he was in a decent spot when Irelia was op last season, but now there's no reason to ever pick jax into ANY matchup if you really want to win -The best top laners right now are tanks and champions with sustain: Mao, Naut, Darius, Poppy, Illaoi, Renekton, Nasus, Yorick -Jax is in a bad spot. The problem is his kit is so basic that they cant give him any buffs because he would stomp low elo really hard due to being an auto attacking champion rather than a more mechanical champ -Illaoi lands one e on Jax and he's pretty much done for until triforce, bork, armor item like randuins, and even then I'm not sure if he could take her -Illaoi q= infinite sustain jax=no sustain at all in his whole kit, most champions can poke him out of lane and get a really good early farm advantage due to having more sustain -Jax has almost no winning matchups right now unless you're straight up a better player than the enemy top. If both players are pretty equal, Illaoi should win almost everytime. Im pretty sure at level 6, even if jax gets a kill on her, she can still take him 1v1 with ult -yes jax can dodge her w with his counter strike, but if he gets into that range it gives her a free opportunity to land an e, if she lands that she can then w that and doesnt even have to hit and can just hit your vessel so your dodge doesnt matter
tldr:dont pick jax until he gets changed, better matchups into illaoi are darius, gnar, fiora, singed, cass top. Even in these matchups illaoi ult can still one hit u

If Jax can dodge e and goes all in on Illaoi and she ults, if he saves w for her ult he wins cause she'll waste it and it'll go on cool down, Jax then precedes roflstomp her. If she lands e and he still goes all in nothing will save him but the god he worships.
