So I just started playing tahm kench again... and it's not fun

I haven't played against tahm kench in a while, so when I saw him in my last ranked game I wasn't that worried. It seems like a lot of the time a champion isn't played for a reason, like being no fun to play, out of meta, or just really bad. I figured at the very least he wasn't overpowered.

So I picked lucian and immediately began to build against him. The standard bork -> cleaver (my team was ad except mid). Still did zero damage to him. It's like I might as well have just not built for him anyways. But playing against him doesn't end at just "I do no damage to him" It's the part where you either deal with him or he carries you into his team or he eats you and your team loses the teamfight without your adc damage. It's not exactly avoidable for me either. His autos apply his passive, and his q has a rather generous hitbox that slows so much it actually makes me cringe in fear every time it hits me. Because of that slow he runs up to me, autos, and then eats me. (do I just not get enough peel?) I'm playing lucian too, it's not like I'm kogmaw with zero escapes. AND THEN when I finally get close to killing him, he shields for his full hp bar and either runs away or wastes more of my time with the 3000+ shield he has.

I just don't understand, what was I doing wrong? Do I just ignore him? Would much rather know I'm wrong than I was doing everything right and tahm is just a stupid champion like I think he is.

are you seriously complaining about a tahm kench while playing the single most busted adc right now due to itemization **who also has dashes for mobility and escape????

dear lawd help us all.

Learn to dodge (with the champ, not the game).

I suspect you just need more practice playing against him since Lucian into Tahm is a matchup that heavily heavily favours the Lucian but isn't super common since Tahm is so rare. When I play Tahm and the enemy picks Lucian I die inside because I know that I'm about to spend the next 15 minutes desperately trying to do something when I can't get close. He can be a real monster if he and his ADC are ahead but if you can stay even his midgame is pretty squishy.

Some tips for playing against him in the future: -Take advantage of minions to block Q and minion block him getting close for an auto. -Save your dash to dodge Q or to get away from followup autos if he does slow you. -He is really slow so if you keep him towards max auto range (his q max range too) you can just walk directly away from him and have the mark expire before he can auto you to stack it until he level his Q to 4 (3 if he has better boots than you) -Mind games are really valuable against him. Baiting out a shield gives you a bit to land some harass that will stick on him. Baiting him to eating his ally leaves a long period where he has much lower threat AND much lower ability to protect his ADC. -Level 1 and 2 can let you build a big advantage against him since he is very reliant on having all three abilities to perform. If he gets shield first harass the enemy ADC, if he gets devour first harass him. -Unless you are 100% sure you can burst him down with teammates stop attacking him after he pops a big shield and save your cooldowns till it expires rather than waste them on something that is going away in 3 seconds. -Anticipate him saving the enemy AD from big ticket abilities like your ult. Use them to initiate the fight when he isn't next to the AD or wait until devour is used rather than trying to finish them off with it like you would normally.
