Conqueror - What will it mean?

As a toplane bruiser main and inventor of several builds and picks which eventually became meta in high elo - "originating" in Korean solo queue, I would like to give a quick highlight of what I feel conqueror will bring to the table. I would like to add that - while I arrived at this view independent of others' input - several high elo streamers have posted vids after my conclusion which agree with what I believe about this new keystone.

Conqueror - gain some ad and - key thing here - true damage after 4 sec in combat. Melee can refresh this while ranged cannot - so no adc or mini-gnar or jayce abusing this. That is a good thing. However, this rune will in fact empower melee champs I would refer to as fighters more than bruisers. Champs with big bursty spells as their primary source of damage and who want short burst trades will not benefit from this nearly as much as you might think. Also, they will be overtaken by the more aa-based/right click champs sooner unless they snowball early since their resistances and hp will mean less in fights vs enemies who can quickly rack up damage via aa's and which are now ignoring a good chunk of the bruiser's armor.

So, burst trade champs have a window in which they will now potentially be able to burst even harder and just 1-shot enemies; however, if they fail to abuse this window and snowball, aa-based champs will overtake them pre-lvl 10 or so as opposed to closer to lvl 11+. The exact level will depend on rank/elo and skill of each player of course. So champs like renekton and riven - who want short trades - will only benefit from this keystone if... they can sit there continuing a fight while their spells are on cd and live long enough to get off a 2nd rotation to net a kill. If they don't live long enough to do this, they simply lose out and one burst trade isn't enough to make it worthwhile.

Champs that are caster-based but also want more extended trades - like darius - will benefit slightly more.

But the real winners will be aa-based champs and champs with high base attack speed who also build one or more attack speed items and who look for extended trades. Jax, yi, xin, yasuo, shyvana, trynd, aatrox, and irelia (since she's similar to jax, but won't probably benefit as much).

Overall, I don't think conqueror will deliver on it's promise the way people hope. The darius and renekton and riven's of the world will not benefit from it all that much unless they snowball between levels 1-7 and build up a massive lead. Otherwise by level 9 or sooner, a jungle yi or xin or a toplane yasuo or jax will 100% just abuse it better than them and be able to delete them with eventually no hope for the bruiser. It will be completely broken on some champs in it's current state - the % of true damage is far too high to be healthy since the 4 sec in combat part can involve just hitting minions currently. Thus, a bruiser or fighter can - if allowed to stack up via killing minions - potentially flash 1-shot an adc thanks to the true damage where currently the adc would survive on low hp. It will empower tower dives by squishy champs vs tankier toplaners (bruisers or tanks) far too much mid/late game.

Perhaps the better route would be to make it give % armor pen and some bonus ad instead of true damage. This would help it achieve it's primary purpose of helping bruisers kill tanks better without making it quite so punishing for opponents of all types from mages to tanks to adc's to bruisers. Alternately, the rune could be reworked altogether into something different. If it stays as-is, I predict many posts about the absurd damage champs are doing, total changeup in power spikes for toplaners and junglers, and an eventual nerf until the keystone either gets reworked or nerfed to the point it is potentially too weak. Regardless of what actually happens though - expect people to eventually catch on and see a lot more xin, yas, yi, aatrox, and jax especially. With of course the darius thrown in - especially at low elo - for his early game snowball potential thanks in large part to his bleed keeping it active even if trades are not constant.

What the most sad part about this thing, it will destroy Urgot in top lane the most among all others, the guy need this keystone to be like daruis and illaoi in lane but in same time he can't cause he ranged champ who can't refresh it.

No Urgot top? Good

No - urgot will be okay. But he will have to build more than just cleaver for damage. New itemization is all. Which honestly he should be having to go more than just cleaver for damage to do as much as he does. I'd think death's dance or perhaps a mortal reminder would go a long way.

I already building death dance as 4th item after frozen mallet on urgot, but with that new stupid rune daruis and illaoi would out damage urgot any day even if they did build defensive which sucks man. Why i had to deal with true damage while i can't do the same thing.

lel so u think when we talk about bruisers we are talking about shit like riven ? fuck no , we are talking about jax irelia olaf renekton and yes they are suppost to fall off if they dont use there early burst in a smart way to snowball a lead , renekton w deals a fukton of burst if he ever gets ahead it's impossible to itemiez against him

It will help jax a ton, irelia moderately. Probably honestly jax will be 100% broken if he can make 2+ items with this keystone as far as dueling is concerned. Olaf I don't think it really helps him that much other than very early in the game and even if he gets fed, the enemy can still stall it out for 4+ items and then all his early work is for nothing. Renekton - it'll be good lvls 2-7 or 2-9 if you keep winning and aren't being camped. But after that - unless you have like 2 item and level lead advantage, an opponent like yi or jax or irelia will probably just annihilate you 1v1 despite you having say... 1.5 items and a 1 level advantage. Thus, I'm not a fan of it. AA-based toplaners like jax, aatrox, etc. already have some decent options and aa junglers like yi and xin already overtake stuff like olaf, darius, renekton, garen too early in the game - this will only make them stupidly completely broken by mid/late game even if the toplane bruiser is fed. If the xin or yi (just using them as example) cannot be 1-shot with full combo - you aren't going to live long enough to get a 2nd combo off even under your own tower.

So it might help bruisers SOME. But it's gonna break aa champs and other's who are less spell reliant melee's... making it hell for the bruisers it's SUPPOSED to help. Thus, in the long run, it's probably not the right solution and will either get ignored - making yi, yasuo, xin, etc. meta and crunching out the darius's and renekton's and olaf's even more than they are right now or... it will get gutted for being too op.

So what about the other aa Champs like Trynd or maybe Yas. They have "built in" crit and get additional value out of the AD the rune provides. Or am I wrong?

woodvsmurph1 votes

Yes it will help them too - I know I mentioned yas somewhere as a probable abuser of the keystone. Trynd slipped my mind because there's a ton of champs and I don't wanna make my posts any longer than they already are by listing every single champ that could possibly use it; just some key examples/stereotypes to get the idea across.
