Steps: Find or bring (if you already have) a blind friend. Say "yes" you actually would like their help/advice. Explain your friend has a standard definition tv at home and doesn't know what all the fuss is about with needing to upgrade. Let guy show you the hd tv's in front of where you've already guided your friend to. When he asks your friend what he thinks and if he can see the difference, your friend can honestly reply... I still don't see any differences between this one and the one I have at home. Let him explain all the key differences he's memorized. After he's done... thank the salesperson and give the guide dog or walking stick back to your friend and proceed on with your day.

it is kind of funny that there are not too many differences between standard definition and HD

if anything, all the change to HD did was make it harder to optimize games and make some videos show up awkwardly on tv

Almost anyone can memorize a few specs and quote them like you know what you're talking about. This is the average best buy employee that I've run into. Then you ask them something they didn't memorize... uh... let me get Bob here. That's his specialty. Ummm... I guess Bob's on lunch break. But anyways, I can assure you it's great.
