Poppy's rework is going to suck

Q: Tell me a little about the Poppy rework Solcrushed: We are currently trying to transform Poppy into a tank instead of her current assassin role. We are trying to make her a feisty yordle who packs a big punch with her hammer and shield.

This is what I hate about the rework.

Don't get me wrong I think she should be tanky to a degree, but not a full tank. Beating able to beat people into a pulp is part of the fun of playing Poppy and you should be able to build her full damage if you want to. IMO riot should be splitting the difference and making her a bruiser. Yes her current ult makes her tanky, but it also allows her to pull of some assassinations as well. So she's a bruiser.

Finally, look at how players build her.

That build list is not one of a pure tank. That's a melee assassin's build list. I'm sorry riot but you aren't respecting poppy players. Yes you want to fix her, but you have to do so in a way her players agree with. Going full tank isn't the way to do so.

What about jungle poppy players, like myself? This is going to royally screw up her jungle because riot can't get tank jungler rights. This rework is messed up because it's going to delete one of her lanes in the game from a practical purpose.

Unless they back off on making Poppy a full tank, this rework is a failure.

Q: Do you really feel the need to change Poppy's entire skillset? Solcrushed: Poppy's skillset makes her a champion that should NEVER get farmed. If Poppy becomes fotm after a VU we might even need to nerf her. A sion-level remake is planned for Poppy.

Nothing new here, copying it for completeness.

Q: Which skill do you think represents Poppy the most? Solcrushed: Poppy's E, a tiny yordle smashing a giant champion to the wall is what makes her attractive.

I don't disagree, but I think her Q is important too. I hope riot doesn't forget this. Yes her E is the #LCSBIGPLAYSSCREWRIOTSBALANCETEAM skill, but managing her Q and her mana is more of her bread and butter skill for laning and team fights. The shield rush is cool, but she's got to be able to bring down the hammer after you get the stun. If you make Poppy a full tank what's happening to the hammer?

Q: Will Poppy's ult mechanism stay the same? Solcrushed: Nope

Knew this was coming, and I can see why it's going. I'll miss it, but I partly understand this decision.

That said they really need to make whatever is replacing it satisfying to the poppy players. Also, if they get rid of this I demand they get rid of tyrnd's ult because it's the same kind of thing and equally annoying to play against. That's fair because they are minor variations on the same bloody concept: go ham for 5-7 seconds while the other team is helpless.

My biggest gripe is Riot has a tendency to rework melee champs into tanks, which you see in the case of Sion. At least Sion's rework actually saved him since he is still the late game all-out-ham monster we all know, just slightly different in play style now.

I wouldn't want them to pull her straight into the tank category though, since she barely had much things to do with tanking in the first place (her ulti isn't what I would call "tanking" tbh), unlike Sion who you can sorta get away by saying "hey he just tanks differently now".

Make her at least a fighter riot pls.

Her issue was she's half tank, half assassin. As I see it, her tankiness is what sets up her assassination. Her Q has great scalings and it goes great with TF. I could see her working as a fighter, but I think she's more of a bruiser. She's kind of like Vi or Shyvana where her tankiness enables her to get close to a carry to be a threat.

Aside from her E, she's not going to bring any CC into the mix so as a tank, she's already starting to fail. I also don't see riot adding the CC she needs to be a proper tank and thematically aside from the E, I don't see it working with her kit unless her Q picks up a silence. Even then a silence isn't a must have CC.

In order to do their jobs, most tanks need good CC which she isn't getting. So from the beginning of this rework, she's already in the liability category. The only other option is they have to have the damage to threaten a carry and riot specifically ruled that out. So where does that leave her kit?

Poppy's Q is in no way iconic. She presses Q and her next basic attack deals a lot of damage... in what way is that special?

Linna Excel2 votes

It, and managing it, is important to her kit. Her stun is nice, but doesn't do that much damage, it isn't always guaranteed, and it requires a bit of work to set up at times. The E is nice, but poppy players learn they have to manage her Q and W most of all.

Basically I'm trying to say is her E isn't something you can build a kit around. It's iconic and provides a big highlight but it isn't bread and butter.

My poppy build ->item 3009 item 3078 item 3707 item 3074 item 3153 item 3172

As far as the yordle race Tanks are covered - >Rumble Amumu Gnar

Whats iconic about her? : Poppy flying out of the bush slaming you into the wall and eating your face with her Q. with high burst

I do not want to see Poppy be a tank, she should be an offensive based bruiser.

Nice to see I'm not the only one who builds poppy DPS.

I see too many people building straight AP and a void staff, fact of the matter is that poppy's burst is nowhere near the best in the game.

But because of the tankiness on her passive, sustained damage builds make her borderline broken.

I usually go item 3710 item 3074 item 3153 item 3078 item 3009 and a item 3110 just because the armor and CDR is too good to pass up.

Poppy's current playstyle isn't healthy to the game...at all. Sure, her early game is rightfully shit, but ultiing someone and LITERALLY not being able to stop her isn't balanced, or even a balanced assassin. Other ones have to be balls deep too, but unlike the other ones, they don't get to free ignore damage AND CC.

I totally get her having to lose the ult.

I'm also totally against her being a tank. If riot said bruiser instead of tank, I'd think they are going in the right direction. Now I don't. This is a case of riot knowing what's wrong and then compounding one mistake with a second mistake. What game are they playing? Really?

How often does Poppy go full tank?

Not often enough to justify her being a tank.

How often does jungle Poppy go tank?

Jungle Poppy is almost always a bruiser. Also riot is screwed up for also deleting her as a jungler because tank junglers suck and every time riot tries to fix tank junglers, they end up worse.

Nothing is finalized yet, except her ulti being changed, for all you know, she could possibly be a tank that can go bruiser. They are likely avoiding building melee champions bruiser now adays because of how hard the current ones can dominate. Irelia and Jarvan are wrecking the scene right now. All and all, we will have to wait and see.

I'd like to believe this, but from my own experience riot is full of arrogance when it comes to this sort of thing.

The only two reworks that haven't increased the champions win rate, play rate, and tourney rate outright was Skarner and Olafs, Olafs was a hard nerf and Skarner got nerfs after his.

And Soraka. She was pretty high in the winrate dept before the backbreaking nerf and I don't see her when I follow the LCS.

This is kinda unrelated, kinda, But I think Soraka is 'ok.' She's very non-meta. Her laning phase is kinda meh, then her midgame is decent, then her late game is meh. But where she really shines is when you have a late game meat shield to stand behind and spam heals on. Sion and Mundo come to mind. Dear lord you have no idea how hard it is to kill a Mundo with Soraka standing behind him. The problem is, late game meat shields aren't too good/popular right now. So like...say...Mundo gets buffed in the way of.....item 3083/item 3065 getting a buff. (or item 3153 and item 3165 getting nerfed) Neither Soraka or Mundo get buffed. But suddenly both start showing up in high elo games because you can do a sora/mundo combo that actually works.

Edit: Soraka's kind of a hidden 1st dragon secure champ also, don't even know exactly why. But she does seem to make it all run pretty smoothly. The heal on whoever is tanking dragon, and the zoning with her Q/E seem to be just what you need to keep anyone from stopping you.

Her too, her win rate, play rate, and tourney rate went up too, then she got a nerf.

Honestly I feel like her W passive and champion passive are the most 'iconic' parts of her. She's fast, she takes less and less damage the more you hit her, and she's getting mad and she's going to hit you.

I used to feel it was the E, but then Vayne came along with a ranged kit and the same skill. Then Gnar came along and started doing it to whole teams, so I no longer feel the wall-stun is unique to Poppy.

But the 'more you hurt her, the more calloused she's gonna get,' part, feels very fitting of her Lore and just general look of a tough little b%$&# that ain't takin' your sh%@.

I never took the opportunity to play Sion before he was relaunched, all I know now is that he is insanely fun and satisfying to play now, one of my favorite champs.

Not to mention, bruiser tanks aren't exactly in a bad spot right now Vi JarvanIV Sion

Didn't miss much with old Sion. Old AD Sion could be fun, but the ulti was like...Singed type ulti? on a tanky/lifesteal? ad. It was clunky. AP Sion was good, but extremely boring after 2 games. Q that was like, EXACTLY like Taric's stun, except a bunch more damage, then walk up to people and let your shield explode (for WAY more damage than the shield does now)....anndd..that's it. Either you killed them in those 2 hits, or you didn't. Your job was done for the next 20 seconds or so.

The major reworks so far have at least made champ more detailed...if not always 'better' (from a win/loss standpoint.) But I think they've all at least added more gameplay into their kit. Poppy though already has some cool gameplay. Just a broken ulti, and too much of her kit revolves around the ulti.
