if i keep dodging during promos, can i stay the rank i am?

i have a smurf that i want to keep in bronze so i can practice things i'm bad at. if i start climbing and end up in promos, will dodging make sure that i stay the same rank? and will it raise my MMR, or will i still be matched against people in bronze?

If you dodge promos to lose them your MMR will stay the same, and go up as you win to reach them again. You'll just get matched against higher and higher people because you are always matched based on MMR, not Rank.

will i still be able to duo with people in bronze even if i have a gold mmr?

EDIT: why did you guys downvote nami for giving helpful information

dam.

Dynamic group requirements are based on Rank, not MMR. If you have a Gold MMR you'll still only be able to pair with Silver and Bronze if you are actually in Bronze.

NICE

dodging all my games for lp loss then

This used to be the case but then Riot made it so that if your MMR gets high enough you just skip divisions.

Essentially meaning you have to intent lose to stay in a rank.

Well at least I think it's not possible anymore. I'm not going to bother trying myself.

can't i get banned for intentionally losing though? or is that just intentionally feeding. if i play the game but make no attempt to win is that bad? kind of a dick move i guess.

You could "throw" games without intentionally losing. It's also unpunishable in all elos because someone can just say they lagged out or they just made a mistake.

But imo that's just unsatisfying to do and I don't get why someone would bother. You're basically also fucking over your own teammates, especially if they put a lot of effort into trying to win.

Yes, I definitely hope they'd ban you for that.

meh. it's not like i would throw, just not hard carry. not carrying is enough to lose in bronze. not going to fuck them over, just not going to give them the mega advantage of having a 15 minute sated shyvana u feel me.

i have a lot of friends in bronze who want to duo but they're bad and won't end up climbing, so i need to make sure i don't either so we can keep duoing

You can just play normals with them. Although, I really don't care because it's all dynamic que when you're bringing in others. Pure solo que won't allow duo or other ranked distortions and that's the only ranking that matters to me.

shyv1 votes

ya i don't care about dynamic queue either it's kind of a bad idea, just using it to carry my friends out, that's the only thing ppl use it for i think

ShaftyMegee2 votes

I don't know, I think it would count against you. But then you get dodge queues of 20 mins... And that's not fucking fun

As long as you always dodge your promo, you won't be promoted. Your ELO will continue to rise until you are playing with Diamond players, you will just appear to be in bronze.

Once you win a promo in bronze you'll skip up several divisions at a time.

yes. this way froggen made a bronze 5 account with diamond mmr :D

I don't remember is dodging a promo counts as a loss like it does for a normal ranked game, but I do know it causes a loss of MMR.

shyv1 votes

really? do you have a source on this? because it sounds like dodging will fix all my problems.

If you dodge during promos it counts as a loss for the promos, but doesn't influence your mmr. There have been some famous-ish people being in bronze 5 while getting matchmade with diamonds as a result. If you want to be matchmade with bronzies though, you need to havve a bronze mmr, which will require legit losses.

I'm fairly certain that they changed things since last season though, so now if your mmr is sufficiently high, you can skip promo series entirely and just be promoted immediately, which would make being a bronze 'diamond' no longer possible. (And getting demoted again would be difficult as you'd lose like 1 lp per game, not to mention be able to avoid demotion for several games even at 0 LP.)

You could dodge so much you could be playing against golds while you're still in bronze since your MMR would keep increasing as long as you keep winning. If it gets too high, you'll even get promoted without a series at all.
