@Meddler: Is there any way to make a Champion who specializes in the "Zerg Rush"?

Zerg Rush - TV Tropes

As the above says, "Quantity has a quality all its own." Yet our only minionmancer Champions either have them as just an add-on to their kit (i.e. Elise , Malzahar ), or are getting reworked because of bad gameplay (i.e. Yorick ). But that doesn't mean that Zerg Rushes are toxic to the game, right?

I'd find it really awesome if there was an eventual Champion who could encapsulate the idea of "I am the Swarm", sending (almost) endless waves of cannon fodder at the enemy to overrun them.

"Why make this?"

There's a number of reasons:

  1. The mechanic of sieging down an enemy with Zerg Rushes currently isn't available in any Champion's kit. Zz'Rot Portal doesn't count, as it's an item. Other Champions who have minions can't really use them for siege.

  2. No Champion in the roster has an "I am the Swarm" thematic to their design, leaving the slot open.

  3. Riot's always looking for new gameplay styles for newer Champions, right? A Champion like this one could potentially open up more viability for siege compositions.

The idea of a Zerg Rush Champion is NOT impossible, but I will not say it'd be easy to make. Still, I'm hopeful that Riot is at least experimenting with the idea in their studios.

Malzahar Yorick

I already mentioned them. Neither can truly use their minions for sieging turrets.

Kled's ult kinda does this with players.

I wonder if you could do a multi-creature champion whose skills and AA scale in proportion to how many of the creatures are alive... he'd be hard countered by AoE skills though and one star call would doom him.

It's impossible to deselect your champion so there would be problems. Deselecting your main unit is important in this kind of stuff since sometimes you want to control the swarm while the main unit chills. I haven't played starcraft but i have played broodmother in Dota 2 which is as close to what you are asking for as it gets.

Riot probably wouldn't support any champ like that, unless in comes with significant counterplay. Malz is probably a good example of it, as he relies on his voidling to make more voidlings.

Though to maintain a good level of counterplay, They probably can't actually make a minion summoning champ with Zerg levels of power.

Probably for good reason. Though if you wanted to see that. You should looked at pre rework AD malz on URF mode. (6 towers in 10 minutes? you betcha)

A tower is never going to handle to Zerg minions, simply because it lacks the Attack speed to clear them. And even using such minions to Siege, gives champions way too much power as it can take the tower shots. (Just look at say, Annie using her tibbers to tank tower, while her ADC Demolishes it, without even the need for a minion wave.

The thing is, turrets aren't really supposed to protect themselves from enemy sieges; you're supposed to protect THEM.

There's also a lot of ways it could be designed so that sieging the tower isn't as broken as it sounds, or at least the Champion doing it cannot sustain a lengthy siege. For instance, here is a rough iteration of an ultimate I have that utilizes the Zerg Rush mechanic.

#Infestation Toggle: Target a location. While this ability is toggled on, you continuously spawn Broodlings that move toward the targeted location, attacking any enemies that cross their path (they do not prioritize Champions). These Broodlings die very easily, die upon attacking a turret, deal reduced damage to turrets, and do not cause unit collision (except with each other).

The upkeep cost of Infestation increases every second by X.

Giving this a Swain-like upkeep cost that ramps up over time makes it so that even if you have 3k mana, you can't infinite-siege a tower. You will inevitably have a mana burnout. Additionally, the "Broodlings" die once they attack a structure (much like Zz'Rot Portal Voidlings) and deal weak individual damage to structures.

Other ways to balance out this Zerg Rush Champion would be to give it an extreme vulnerability to assassins and dive fighters. No mobility, low durability, etc. All these would mean that split-pushing with this Champion would be very risky, as you'd open yourself up to ganks and snipes.

This is all just theory, though.
