Guilty Pleasue Items

What items do you build for a particular champion that people don't usually build, but you can not seem to go without

Riven item 3172

I think this item is soo amazing for her, Tenacity, CDR, Movement Speed Boost, and AD all rolled into one. I love it.

I used to do this so much. grabbed spellvamp too, to actually heal off of them XD

Udyr item 3153

After lizard and trifrorce, a third damage item is asking to die in fights.

YoungManhatten2 votes

You've no idea how long it took to get this concept into my thick ass skull that udyr can't afford a third damage item lol.

Worgslarg1 votes

Its mainly the fact that unless extremely fed, you dont have enough gold for 3 damage items and then a tank item, all before you hit teamfights.

Pryotra1 votes

lol, I usually nab golems instead, so this actually fits into my build.

Can't resist the free ward, if I get yellow trinket, only ward I need to buy is my pinks, and I only need to get one if A) my first one dies/will die soon, or b) have a stealth enemy champ in teamfights like akali, where the pink still counters them.

A Superb Villain3 votes

Nautilus and item 3027

More health than Randuin's, bonus mana, and a little bit of extra AP. Helps me hit a little harder and I can spam abilities during team fights without having to worry about going OOM.

QuickshotGGEZ3 votes

Runnans+sword of the divine on jinx, its so fun 3 hitting everyone grouped up.

Sword of the divine on twitch, auto auto auto tank and kill the back line

Pryotra3 votes

Heimerdinger item 3116 - for defensive itemization if I am getting ultra focused, or against champions like morde or udyr that are hard countered by slows. Those lazar slows are pretty powerful, considering that they are AoE.

Leona item 3027 - When I can get ahead early, I like this item. So much sustain in lane, and your damage is bonkers until they get to late game.

Anivia item 3023 - If I fall behind against an AP enemy laner, or am continuously dived, this item can put me back in the game. The extra slows help with landing flash frost, or self peel multiple divers. Not to mention that MS REALLY helps, and Anivia can indeed use that CDR, if she can't afford better.

Wullf2 votes

just yesterday i was thinking of RoA for Leona but I though it too crazy.

Pryotra2 votes

If your lane is getting a huge lead early, and you are taking full advantage of your early gold item, chances are this Item is pretty good for her. You save on pots, and if you can finish it, it gets you tankier and more lethal with every level. This is good, as it provides plenty of reason to focus you over your budding carry. Downside is that you will still be spending money on wards to make up the difference, but if you are stomping your lane you should be able to afford both.

A good buy early, but if you can't get that gold in lane, or are generally struggling, get other things.

ploki1221 votes

Why not just abyssal in that case? It allows you to use that extra cash instantly and offers more team-wide utility.

Pryotra1 votes

Because unless the enemy ap is snowballing that early AND ganking, the MR isn't that useful, and the passive is mahogany until teamfights.

Meanwhile, RoA gives you hp per level, mana per level, sustain, and damage, it also lets you stay in lane. Win win win, if you can afford it.

item 3172 on Ashe with item 3277 because I wanna piss everyone off with perma-slows all day

Noctis Lunaris2 votes

item 3197 Viktor for Blue Build Viktor Support item 3031 Talon alongside Youmu's for dem Crit bursts item 3091 Chogath lol I'm just AA'ing you while you fail to kill me item 3092 Thresh I feel terrible at first, But it's worth. item 3281 Janna I'm uncatchable and dat passive synergy tho item 3026 Sion I'm baaaaaaaack~

Wullf1 votes

THough I did not have balls as thresh to buy item 3092 . I must say its active goes well with his other abilities. As it gives him better chance to land hook or flay.

Though I still better like relic shield because you need him to be tanky.

Noctis Lunaris1 votes

I don't like Relic in-lane however, as you don't get the execute and you're forced to use you Flay passive instead. The reason I like the FQC line is that I can save my Flay passive for harrassing, and when I get the active It's 2gud. It gives up some early health, but you get souls so it's K

item 3128 Elise

12tales1 votes

Kassadin item 3078

Not actually a guilty pleasure, in that I'm not guilty about it. The build is the product of about a week of number crunching, which ultimately revealed that the item is ludicrously good on him.

acepil0t1 votes

You can't just trust the "tons of damage"???????

12tales1 votes

It seems appropriate to vindicate Phreak's favorite item on an unconventional champion with math.

ChaosThief1 votes

Skarner jungle, item 3154 . It works out, but apparently EVERYONE seems to think wriggles can't work on anyone except auto-only champions like MasterYi .

Willahelm Fulber3 votes

I actually find item 3207 is better than item 3154 , seeing as the Health Boost from Ancient Golem allows you to dive the enemy team, grab your target, and get out with a decent amount of health still up, whereas WL/FF is damage, something skarner doesn't really need in his current balance arrangement.

ChaosThief1 votes

I mainly rely on autos and end up just outrunning anyone in a fight, tending to stick on the outside...

I have to try golem's again, but I didn't like how slowly it cleared.

Willahelm Fulber1 votes

Skarner has an insanely fast clear speed compared to most other junglers (tank junglers especially) if you just take attack speed quints. It's not much more than without them but it'll probably help with what you don't like about his clear; once you get frostborn you clear camps extremely quick (phoenix udyr quick) but the reason I pick up ancient golem is because skarner is tanky and does a decent amount of damage with a large amount of utility. Building damage doesn't make sense on him to me.

MAZZ1M01 votes

Youmuu's Ghostblade on Fiora. Sometimes I build it before Tiamat. It absolutely destroys champs and decimates turrets. The movement speed from the active is great for pushing lanes faster, dishing out more damage, and the movement speed is great for running away when you cut it close. Once you have Hydra with it... oh gawd... heavenly sword damn.

Feral Flare on Shyvana. Going defense seems like such a waste on her early on, especially considering she has no CC for ganks. I alternate what I build offense/defense as I go to stay balanced, but cannot go without Flare. The early damage is great. It synergizes amazingly well with her kit. I also feel like I get way more gold than I do with Ancient Golem or even Elder Lizard (though I'd never build it on her.) I haven't actually done the math, but it feels to good to just be in my head. It also saves me from having to drop money on BotRK as Flare already provides atk speed. I build Hydra instead which helps dominate lanes when I come in. Add in the Sunfire Cape after that and we are a GO! Captain enchant on boots turns me into a split-pushing beast late-game.

Runaan's Hurricane on Jinx. I typically only build it if I'm already ahead, but when I do, it's scary what Jinx can actually do with it. The attack speed is nice, but the aoe with her rocket in teamfights is why I really like it -especially if I already have high-damage items. It's a fun win-more for me.

Morellonomicon on Lulu. I love everything about it and it compliments my aggressive Lulu play perfectly. It solves all my mana problems by itself and gives me a nasty damage passive that I use on Warwick frequently. I usually rush it after Sightstone. It's funny, most of the time I pick Lulu, there's a WW on the enemy team to burn down. :P HA!

Essence Reaver on Hecarim -even more so now that the price is lowered. I did a lot of math comparing it to Trinity Force and Essence Reaver suit my purposed far better early game than Trinity Force does. The plain and simple: Sheen and Trin are damagemultipliers whereas ER gives you flat AD your skills can also benefit from. Also helps the crappy mana regen and dmg he has early game too. I love everything about it. The new 3200 price makes it comparable to Trinity Force now depending on what you're looking for between the two. I've had much better success with Hec as a result.

Essence Reaver on Graves. I usually build BT or IE after. The mana regen is so nice as it helps me spam skills more which keeps the lane a pain-in-the-ass for anyone I'm up against.

Also, Mercurial Scepter on everyone I've listed other than Lulu in the right situation. Cleanse is extremely underrated. I tend to build it more often on Riven than anyone else, but it's good all-around for dealing with CC. Put that on Riven and tell me you're not the stuff of nightmares.

I love playing with builds! <3 :)

Jesus is Savior1 votes

Mercurial Scimitar is also nice as a one-second ghost to secure kills.

Sometimes I'll rush it on Evelynn before building any armor just for the cleanse/ghost, because it helps me survive and get kills more than the early armor ever would.

Zondervain1 votes

Could you, ah, explain the math behind your essence reaver hecarim?

MAZZ1M02 votes

Nevermind, I was treating the base AD as a constant, but it had some seriously significant high values making the Sheen spellblade outweigh ER's composite items. It feels weaker I think, but it actually does do much more. That's my b.

:( All that damn math... bah humbug. This is why I hated it in high school.

ShadowNinetails1 votes

item 3142 on Fiora isn't that odd and item 3160 is what she's supposed to do out of the jungle. item 3207 isn't worth after losing its tenacity, item 3209 only procs on physical damage while Shyv is about 70% magic damage, and item 3206 ...well...yeah. item 3160 wastes no stats. Shyv greatly benefits from the attack speed, the AD, the %increase in gold, and the on-hit effect is just love for someone with a double auto attack reset.

SkyPiglet1 votes

MissFortune with item 3098. Miss Fortune always needs mana regen early game anyway, and i end up getting 800+ gold with the passive. It feels like a waste **not **to buy what is essentially free gold and stats. Sometimes I even make a profit on the thing, especially if I sell it end-game. I've had games where Frostfang got me 1500 gold.

PaladinNeph1 votes

honestly, frostfang seems to be the only gold item I make a profit off of. I use it constantly, depending on the champ. usually, the deciding factor is "can you get the stacks?" and with MF... yes. one E. done.

honestly, I wish riot would do more with this item. it just gives me such a delight to smack someone in the face with a DoT and run, calling "thanks for the 30 gold, biaaaatch!" back over my shoulder

ploki1222 votes

Imo, minion kills needs to prevent you from triggering the gold passive for 5 seconds per minions, stacking up to 5-10. Right now, a lot of heavy pushers can actually take it in solo lane and proc the passive every few waves which is totally stupid.

Life Of Nami1 votes

I absolutely love playing Ahri as an ADC. Trinity Force+Crit/LW/BT itemization.

She's a fantastic ADC when you build trinity ADC on her. Her Charm and hybrid damage output. Most fun ADC I've ever played. Ahri : item 3078 item 3031 item 3046 item 3035 item 3072 item 3006

Deep Terror Nami1 votes

As a support, I often pick up item 3023 regardless of champion. I just absolutely love its ability to provide escape AND chase assistance to the team, and also scout so I can deep ward safely especially when we're behind.

item 3284 on occasion just to be fast :3

Singed item 3284 Gotta follow my rainbow!

Tulare1 votes

item 3050 for Lulu when playing support. It's not an item that I "can not seem to go without" but it's definitely a guilty pleasure. If we rock our lane early, I like to flaunt that aggression.

Mirage Night1 votes

So many cool combos in this thread.

ChickenWrap1 votes

Gnar item 3022

Why don't people do this. It's just stupid. Especially against his hard counter of Irelia. I keep telling people to and they say "OK" and then build BRK and then Triforce.

No, Rush it against Irelia. Just do it.

ploki1221 votes

item 3078 Shaco , dat support getting some bonker poke in when paired with Backstab!

12tales1 votes

Triforce on Shaco is standard. Burst damage, movespeed, hybrid stats, crit chance - what's not to love?

Dudermen1 votes

Janna with item 3023 . I don't fully know if this is meta or not (janna isnt too popular) but i do know that this increases your picking potential, something i feel janna lacks. This gives both teamfight cc as well as chasing/catching potential.

Syche1 votes

item 3087 on Janna they never expect the support backdoor

SnowFall1 votes

Vayne item 3117 item 3046 item 3078 item 3172 enchantment furor

ShadowNinetails1 votes

item 3027 on Diana . I usually take her in the jungle (I guess I could just as easily say item 3206 on Diana ) but when I'm forced to lane and not getting those early blue buffs, I find myself running oom all the freaking time. It's not like Diana's the type of champ to get item 3174 or item 3003 and item 3110 item 3165 are highly situational depending on enemy team comp meanwhile item 3115 had its mana regen stripped so the only thing left in her "normal" build with mana support is item 3100 and if you're getting that for the mana, you're doing it wrong. RoA solves that issue as long as you don't mind your power spike coming slightly slower, but it makes her a tanky beast once it's had a little time to grow (at full stacks, only item 3022 and item 3083 give more HP) while giving a good chunk of AP.
