Phreak's vid kinda rustled muh jimmies

So Phreak was talking about the Sona partial revert (where I wish he would have acknowledged how bloody wrong he was before Christmas when he was talking about how "fine" she'd be despite the massive nerf), and he just sort of non-nonchalantly throws in something like "She's sub 50% win rate in Solo Queue. Obviously 0% in Pro Play because Sona'll never show up in Pro Play..." and...honestly, I don't like it. Like, I really don't.

I get that not every champ is gonna be viable in Pro Play at once. It's 130+ champs at this point. Not everyone's gonna be meta at the same time. Understood.

But isn't the point at least to TRY to make it so that we have more diversity, and that different champs at least COULD be viable in that space at one point or another? Worlds tends to see some pretty pathetic diversity every year I tune in, and it's apparent that some champs are just straight designed with not a single thought of organized play in mind. I mean, Phreak wasn't wrong about her. Even on mind-numbing solo queue win rates, Sona sucks straight ass in organized games. Even support players that climbed straight through Challenger last year by using her didn't play her even in Tyler1's makeshift tournament. Like...in a team game, isn't it kind of backwards to design champs that don't play well when you play more like a team?

To boot, you guys made a HUGE deal about Clash, which is organized play...for us, the players, which means that any champ with this idea of "You're not even SUPPOSED to be good in an organized setting" is really just solo queue cheese rather than an actually good champ.

Clash was something I had my eye ever since you guys teased it like a year or two ago, and I basically had to drop my champ of 2 million + mastery because I had to swallow the truth of "This is going to hold you back hard as fuck if you play this in that mode". It's not something I like to see. I guess I'm just venting about it. If anyone's wondering, it's kind of the root of a lot of my frustration with the champ that I've been airing out since then. Probs just need to move on from her.

A partial revert on an overdone nerf while they nerf her highest win rate rune...again. Doesn't bother me as much since I'm playing Nami/Janna now, but I don't think this partial revert really helps.

I don't understand why it's so hard for Riot =/ DOTA 2 had a huge variety in pro play

Simply because riot doesn't want diversity. We need to put off the rose tinted glasses of riot trying to balance the game or anything. They are just "designing" it. Gone are the days where riot was more like if something is overpowered we gonna nerf it but otherwise play what you feel like you want to play. Riot now straight forces metas. Is it a surprise to you that we have the SAME meta as half a frickin year ago? Not only competitive also soloQ. Every game jarvan, ryze, azir, ori, tali, trist, twitch, kog, caitlyn, janna, lulu, kalista, mao, cho, ornn, seju. All the same fuckin champs 24/7. Kha zix ofc which riot also seems to adore. Like don't you find it strange how fast riot can come up with nerfing something that bothers botlane like aftershock, changing supports in one patch to make it "more fun" and how after three months riot basically did nothing to toplane? How fast riot can put out a small "rework" or "tweak" to janna and other champs are untouched? I'm not even talking about champs who desperately need full scale reworks but there are so many unviable champs/unhealthy champs who just need one or two abilities tweaked to be good. Look how riot basically bruteforced cho into competitive play because somehow they find it entertaining when cho runs down anyone on the enemy team with RG and just oneshots them with 8k hp and 300 armor/mr. Every new champ and rework has something global or half global, teleport so much shit to bruteforce these champs into competitive play and the rest is just forgotten. And this is the reason why we need another actual BALANCE team that doesn't force the meta THEY want to see, a team that is NOT biased towards champions they like and let them be overpowered while nerfing other champs for the same reasons the other champ is overpowered.

You are reading far too much into it, it is not the case that Sona is intentionally kept down by Riot to never appear in pro play, it's that a pro play setting has 0 place for a support who works like Sona

Ever since they gave her a rework to make her the hardest scaling support champion in the game I knew that she would never see pro play anymore, a support who needs to scale to be more effective and is very fragile early is not valuable at all in pro play, Sona needs both levels and gold, in pro play it is very normal for a support to be 3-4 levels behind Pros want their supports most effective at the early game to speed their carry up to getting fed, Sona is not the best champion to pick if you actually want the most out of early game

It's not to say Sona can't be played at high elo, last season rank 1 NA was a Sona one trick, Sona is still an amazing solo queue champion (when she's in a good spot) and I doubt she will ever lose that trait of being amazing in solo/duo queue

Besides, if history is any notification then Sona seeing pro play = Sona is getting knee-jerk nerfed

I mean, they did a mini-rework on the champ and made her even worse for that environment than she was before. Isn't that Riot intentionally setting the groundwork for Sona to not be balanced in organized play?

Unfortunately, that's not necessarily what I care about for the champ. If that success doesn't translate to a well rounded skill set, what's the point? I don't play League to cheese a bunch of unorganized Diddy Kongs. I play League to be good at League. I've been shown time and time again that Sona doesn't really work towards that goal. People that even got their way to rank 1 on her don't play her in tourneys. That's a horrible sign.

Besides, if history is any notification then Sona seeing pro play = Sona is getting knee-jerk nerfed

I mean, as Phreak said: She's not supposed to be good in pro play in the first place. They EXPECT her to be bad there. She's designed that way. She's like a bike with training wheels. You aren't expected to outrun a racing bike on a bike with training wheels...otherwise something's off with that bike.
