Is Shyvana Top a thing?

IDK. I go Shyv top sometimes and people always question me for it. I was just wondering if it was a meta choice as I know that a lot of junglers can go top also.

She's garbage in top lane and has been for a long time. There was a point where she was meta and it was an awful and boring top lane meta. Riot doesn't really want an awful, boring top lane meta so they will probably make sure that Shyvana only remains good in the jungle.

It was a real thing back in season 3. Several nerfs to her early game lane phase pushed her out and metas rotated, new champs were released, and she's no longer considered a top tier pick top lane. She has strong game against other melee champs that lack ranged skill shots and strong wave clear since she can easily fill the pressure top role a la tryndamere style split push offensive. However she lacks cc wise and is reliant on being able to pressure farm and proxy farm to wind up being effective. If you want to think of nasus as the passive afk farm top laner, shy would be an active variant. She will likely always remain a strong counter to champs like renekton or garen since she can choose to not engage them and out farm them pretty much at will. There are better picks for this though.

It's a thing, just not a very effective pick. Lower tier in relative strength.

She does lack CC, but she makes up for it in move speed. If you get item 3009 and item 3116 you can chase anyone down easily.

When I started playing, Shyv top was more of a thing than Shyv jg. I think she can still do it but it isn't really as good as it was.

Shes easily counterpicked, but if she can do well in lane you WILL do well late game. her farm is good, and she does so little damage early that if youre against a roamer like riven you just powerfarm.

Yeah. I've been using her to counter Renekton b/c apparently she does that. I always get stomped against him. I don't really notice a huge difference with Shyv though, exc I do die less.

Also, they buffed her W in 6.10 so it does AP scaling, so I can build item 3116 and get tank, damage, and CC stats. Also item 3091 is really good on her.

But she is a late-game champ. I enjoy having 250 AD, 300 AP, 3200 HP, and 100 armor and MR. So enjoyable.

Renek is a style of champ who relies on being ahead to be effective, he rather needs to kill his opponent to maintain control, similar to riven, shy can pick and choose when and how to engage him on her terms with her mobility that doubles as wave clear, she has small poke which can wear Renek down early if used well, control the lane and farm rate, watch for dive all ins with Reneks combo at 3, and after wards bait and avoid the combo with his dash and deny him while farming thru the minions aggressively towards renek when he doesn't have double fury for stun clear and back off the wave of remaining own minions as they push towards the turret and you are free to roam, farm enemy jungle, proxy farm, fast clear and tp gank or regular gank mid post 6.

If he can't kill you and is denied some minions while shy roams to farm other camps or lanes it becomes an attrition battle and shy wins. Eventually she can pick the fights she wants and always win while applying massive pressure, particularly effective with zportal these days.

Go to champion.gg and look at Shyvana top stats if you question if she is strong. Her play and winning percentage are terrible in top lane and have been for many patches. She is currently in a really bad spot overall and will probably be getting buffs now that devourer is gone so they can make her viable again. Meddler has poster in previous comments that they are keeping an eye on her and yi for some buffs because they look a little weak right now.
