@Riot: Fantasy vs. Function is becoming a problem, in a way
Case
: Riot wanted her players to still feel like she was a rough, scrappy yordle with the whole "Big beating. Little package." idea going on. Her moves generally get that across in aesthetic and sound...but what does she do? There's a crap ton of conditions to every spell she uses for maximum effect. She's supposed to be geared towards peeling in team fights, but her ability to do so is so conditional, yet so unrewarding that you might as well play Shen or Galio if you need a Warden pick. Why does someone pick Poppy in this game?
Case
: If anything, they shouldn't have reworked Yorick yet, because now he's gonna be generally crap for another 5 years or so. Like...he's just Nasus without the infinite scaling and Wither, which are the main points of Nasus. That said, the hell does he do? Whatever it is, it looks super cool, but why play this guy over Nasus? Splitting two lanes? Does sending your ult to the opposite side of the map sound like a decent idea when you need it to fight the enemies right in front of you?
Case
: Sure, Wu Kong needs work, but at least he's the diver with a strong aoe disruption tool. Vi, on the other hand, just suicides in most cases. She only locks down one person, and that one person can just fall back into their team and she's then stuck to deal with a barrage of pain from all sides. Unless she gets a huge lead, she's eventually going to be nearly useless. Why would someone ever want Vi on their team when they can have J4 or Lee Sin?
Case
: If Ashe's whole point is "Less damage, but you have a global skill shot stun to start fights", but the point of an ADC is to deal dps as fast as possible while other people initiate fights, what is the point of Ashe in a balanced rift?
Case
: Why would anyone want a jungler that can't fight for themselves, regardless on how well they pulled off Ivern's character? If he's not allowed to hyper farm the jg and get ridiculous level leads, he's hardly even worth using since his ability to engage a fight is limited without a flank, and his ability to tank is around as bad.
We could keep going, but you guys get the point. Delivering on thematic is cool, but not so much when it impedes the overall viability of the champ. I DO want to be fair, here: There's a chance that opening up bot lane to more types of champs could increase the overall variety we see in the game, and could fix issues we see in picks like Ashe, where what they do would be a bit more useful if you could draft teams where the trade off made sense. However, for others like Vi and Poppy, I don't see the point in them outside of playing them because you like them when they just don't feel like they compete at all.
