Whats the point of playing assassins after changes?
So first of all lets just admit that in the past assassins havent actually been viable. They were however the preferred choice of smurf players who could take the massive risk associated with picking them simply because their skill advantage more than made up for it. This led some people to believe ( mostly low elos being affected by smurfs) that assassins were overwhelmingly strong where in fact on even ground they were quite the opposite. The problem here lies in the fact that ~50 of gold - platinum 1 players are at all times of the year low-high diamond smurfs who chose extremely snowbally champions to progress faster and not rely on teammates. (Zed Kha Zix Riven etc all very popular in this range) So while this isnt the best example of what they are supposed to do they should be able to take over the entire game without offering much counterplay IF the player gets too far ahead in the early mid stages by playing well. Not having counterplay IS this roles identity and the game SHOULD be unfun for the enemy team if one of them gets going. Although even riot acknowledged the "feast or famine" nature of this role I dont see why they want this changed, it is and should be the key feature of this role. With these reworks the reliability to take down enemies if ahead is significantly diminished not to say gone. I have looked at the reworks and a thing that runs through pretty much all of them is as you would expect the aforementioned massive increase of counterplay with nothing really compensating for that. A lot of the point and click spells have abysmal ratios the only high ratios are often tied to skillshots or abilities that expose the champion too heavily meaning they are inapplicable in most scenarios. Every adc is gonna laugh at all those skillshots coupled with low ratios and even the most fed assassin can now be outplayed. If the main portion of a champions damage can be avoided easily (mostly by flashing) the champ is rendered useless. Point and click champions have always been dominating the game and there are champions who offer very potent ones without having to rely on getting ahead who surprisingly are staple picks in competitive play. ( Malzahar, Maokai, Alistar to name a few) I suspect the champions that will be picked up instead to assume the now even less powerful role will be point and click based fighters like Irelia. Even wukong will be better at reliably assassinating than all of the reworked ones. Now if the thing being broken here is the strength of those skills once in click range or the fact that flash is overpowered and bypasses those skills predictability is for riot to decide but if left unchanged assassins will be even more useless as there are better options with far less risk attached to them. Some high elo players destroying beginners on PBE doesnt mean they are going to be strong.
