When you rework a champion

Players should get an IP/RP refund, Look, you are spending your hard earned $$$/hours of games with the intention to buy a champion. and rito decides to actually change what you bought. Its like ordering a steak at a restaurant, and that steak changes to fish half-way through the meal. Look, I get that buffs and nerfs are needed as changes to champions, but when you entirely alter a champion's kit, it's another story. THAT"S NOT WHAT I ORDERED

Riot keeps the exact same play style on MOST champions. While their abilities may change, the play style change the game. When you buy a champion, you rent that champion, and you agree to the fact that it is always subject to change.

Not really, Soraka isn't an assassin. Reworks generally keep champions within the same class.

I'm assuming you mean stuff like full VGUs, but I'm going to go ahead and cover all three different types of reworks, and see if this makes any sense;

VGUs are updates involving the majority of a champions kit, their appearance (including model skeleton, textures, animations), visual effects, and so on, which are the largest reworks Riot does to champions. However, I've seen that they keep a lot of stuff in mind when changing champions through VGUs.

Here's an example with the most recent; Yorick Yorick, the Shepherd of Lost Souls - Riot took quite a fair bit of time working on him, and it paid off well. They wanted to keep one of the major designs and appeals of Yorick, and executed really well on that note; he's a powerful off-tank fighter who summons an army of risen dead to make fights easier on him, and harder on everyone else.

Now, this is one of those cases where every ability he had got changed. Unholy Pact was changed to Shepherd of Souls, from a buff-per-minion to actually being able to summon minions - the only ability he really retained was his Omen of Famine, I believe it was, which was turned over to Last Rites.

But did they change every aspect of Yorick in its entirety? No. They kept the theme of an undead summoner who brought an army into lane, and walked away just fine.

Visual Reworks are updates involving only things like visual effects, model skeleton, textures, etc. And, generally, don't really do anything beyond that. There may be cases where the champion also gets some tweaks to their abilities, but that's about the extent of it.

A good example of this would have to be Maokai Maokai, the Twisted Treant, who got a new model (but no model skeleton change, if I recall), some new animations, and visual effects that really make him look great.

Gameplay Updates, whether small-scope like random quality-of-life changes or large-scope like Class Reworks or individual champion GPUs, only effectively change how the champion plays. Again, though; Riot always tries to preserve the champion's identity when they do these reworks. And in most cases, these GPUs only extend to changing two or, rarely, three abilities the champion has.

The best example of this would have to be Leblanc LeBlanc, the Deceiver. Prior to the Assassin update, she was (and still is, currently) just a mage who gets slightly tricksy at low health, and who locks one enemy down, then dives in super hard to finish them off. Post-Assassin update, though, she's a lot more tricksy before getting cut down, being able to dual-cast her spells, play mind-games with delayed burst damage, and even summon a phantom image of herself to feign a spellcast at an enemy champion - which can be used in so, so many ways.

The biggest thing to point out here though is that, Riot always tries to keep true to the champion's design, appeal, and theme. And they do it really, really well. Whatever it is you're complaining about seems kinda dumb when you look at the reworks Riot's been doing, because while the champions they Rework definitely feel different after the fact, they're still the same champions with the same general feel.

TL;DR - No matter what kind of update Riot does to a champion, they don't change the champion so vastly as you're portraying it.
