Riot puts new players in Gold/silver 1 elo games.

Just had a teammate in placements with t2 runes in a gold V/silver 1 game.

Thanks for having such a stupid placement system. Im glad everyone gets to waste their time in a bad game because you can randomly get a AI Bot only placement player. Real competitive and fair.

Btw it works both ways, enemy had a placement player a couple games ago, and they all complained about him being useless and feeding, and the game was a super easy win.

There needs to be a new system rather then just throwing random people against gold players.

if they dont throw him into a gold elo game, how would they know if he belongs in gold or not?

They just need to do what other mobas do and have everyone start in bronze and just climb.

Average player MMR starts around Silver 3. From there it's simply a lack of games that causes them to shift dramatically in MMR, meaning a single win can propel them to Silver 1.

I support using Normal MMR as a baseline for the very first placements on an account. I know that it's not ideal to have Normals affect Ranked in any way, both because it's a bit abusable and because it puts pressure on pre-ranked Normal games. But I think it's worth it for better matchmaking.

After some thought, I don't think that starting everyone in Bronze is the right answer. High level smurfs are just as much of a matchmaking problem as new players starting ranked. In terms of minimizing mean squared error, the ideal place to start everyone is indeed right in the middle. Diamonds/Challengers starting in Bronze would be a bigger problem than Bronzes starting in Silver.
