So, out of curiosity, why aren't we ranked by our performance grades?

It would definitely separate the unskilled from the really skilled. Other than requiring the grading system to be polished up, why aren't we ranked by our grades? Wouldn't that be better?

Because performance grades are meaningless? Consciously picking a champion into bad matchup will result in a lower grade, but might well be a good decision if your team needs something particular like hard engage, peeling etc.

No, because then we would be ranked by which champ we play.

The game is based off of win/loss so as to discourage the team from fighting amongst themselves (for better kda etc) and to make sacrifice plays (which are needed) an option for the end-goal of winning.

We'd also have even less people playing tanks/support to take the hit for the team since it wouldn't be in their best interest.

The only stat that matters is the V baby

A player who manages to get an A- in a Diamond game is massively better than a player who manages to get S+ in a Bronze game.

Not to mention that it could lead to teams in-fighting to try and steal all of the kills and/or farm to improve their grading.

Grades don't matter in the least.

If this is the case why do I manage an S or better rating in 60-70% of my matches and you guys manage it one match out of 10???

Of course the grading system is an indicator of skill. It was DESIGNED to be an indicator of skill by measuring your individual skill metrics.

It's not an indicator of skill because it takes many criteria to make a grade. Among those are comparisons to other players playing the same champ and the roles the champs are taken in. The game is a team effort not if I'm the best on X champ compared to someone else who isn't even in the game you're in.

Lol, so, your performance with a champ has no bearing at all on the game?

Right...

Any one else find it funny the only naysayers in this entire thread are all a bunch of low plat scrubs and some golds and silvers.

Meanwhile the ONE diamond to post in the thread is downvoted for telling it like it is.

Lol. Never change gameplay board. Never change. Typical.

True, faker lost 8 games in a row in challenger and went around even, does that mean when I go 30/0/23 that I'm better than him? Challenger players wont get as many kills which would cause bronze players to rise on the ladder, and challenger players to fall, you probably posted this after a game where you got really fed then lost because you were not able to carry the lead over to your team.

It has happened to me where I get S- to S+ and I still lose. However the team objective wasn't there and just one wrong move cost the match. Getting an S or above shouldn't regulate MMR ranking because it's clearly just used as a gauge to compare you to other players playing the same character. It's not difficult to get a decent rank on certain character and even after a point you can gauge what your rank is probably going to be in regards to S or less depends on how you've warded, kda and CS'd so should I just afk once I know I've hit that S or above rank? What does that prove exactly? That you've mastered a particular champ? Last I check you already get rewards with the emote, it's not a system that we needed to have but was just thrown in to give some cosmetic flare to your achievement. I feel that rank tests a lot more especially the patience to work with random people in order to complete an objective and basic to complex game mechanics.

It would absolutely be better. Which is why Riot doesn't do it. The entire reason I came up with the Champion Mastery system in the first place 4 years back was to do something like this. Riot decided they liked my idea, but not the functionality of it. So now its just an easter egg.

Too logical.

It won't, it is not working perfectly and also depends on what champion are you playing With. Some champions are harder to gain S with because for example this champion is harder than another ( You can't tell me that it is as easy to have good stats with for example Lee sin as with Annie) so it is not reliable source of information about someone's skill.

Although there are already a lot of comments here is my opinion (didn't read any of their comments yet so I may repeat thoughts)

  1. You are a gold 3 and your mmr is so low from losing games you are playing a silver 3 and get really fed
  2. saying "you ks'd me" will actually make people be just like my boy tyler1
  3. You are playing midlane and are like faker that game, you are just doing everything right, but then you get 5 manned under tower, are you trash? Not really

Because there is no point in doing so unless the optimal way of playing to get a good grade makes games more fun than the optimal way to play to win.
