Top Yorick- Sink or Swim?

Recently, I've been playing THE Yorick Yorick Mori- a lot. Most games I play top lane, occasionally I'll jungle. I've spotted a pretty definitive pattern with this champion, using almost the same build each game, only changing my starting items depending on my lane opponent. I either dominate my lane entirely, or lose my lane entirely. There isn't an inch of middle ground 8/10 games. Rarely have I played a boring lane phase on Yorick.

My speculation is that Yorick's kit is too-- confusing? His spells are low damage, yet cost 50+ mana per ability. His stats are tank oriented, yet rushing a item 3070 is detrimental, causing him to sacrifice early game tank items. Yet, as a tank, his CC is minimal to none, making him an easy 300G against any jungler with even the slightest ability to lock you down, and only useful as a meatshield in 75% of teamfights.

Don't get me wrong, I REALLY like Yorick. He is easily the most fun champ for me to play-- if I win lane. Even with little CC, playing safe usually keeps me alive through ganks, and his poke is INSANE when he gets a few stacks on the tear. Usually, the tone of the entire game rests upon who kills who first. Sadly, most games I find myself getting snowballed by champions like Darius Nasus Riven who can either out-heal my mana intense poke, and then all in me because of the low CC Yorick provides, or heavily kited by champions like Gnar Graves Teemo where their movement/escapes provide easy range in order to out-poke my ghouls.

In summary, Yorick's kit is either sink or swim in the top lane. Maybe it's the champion, maybe it's my playstyle, maybe it's maybelline. I do know that Yorick is well over-due for a solid rework- and splash art- hopefully in the near future. I hope the developers can maintain his fun, poke heavy play style while revitalizing his outdated mechanics for something even better. I am a failing Yorick main who wants to see attention given to a champion that isn't picked very often. I want to pick Yorick in champ select without my team griefing me about my choice of a top laner. When I walk into lane, I shouldn't have to B back to base because 3 minutes in I've casted my E 3 times to get Trundle to 80% health. I shouldn't have to worry about letting my team down because I was snowballed into oblivion early game, giving Jax 7 kills under turret because of my low mobility. Thank you for reading my sad rant, but I needed to get it out there. As always, you will remember Yorick Mori~

item 3004 >item 3078 >item 3071 >item 3158 >item 2140 > item 3065 >item 3812 ?

item 3004 item 3110 item 3071 item 3065 item 3111 item 3742 These aren't in order, because I usually build differently depending on how the game goes, but this is typically my late game build IF i make it to late game. Like I said, sink or swim.

yorick top is nice, i often do really well. Never jungled him though, what do u build then? i imagine mana is an issue?

Actually quite the opposite. My impact on the game when I jungle yorick is 10x higher than when I play yorick top and my winrate with jungle yorick is higher as well. Also with the mana, again it's the exact opposite. Between blue and a REALLY early tear you're getting mad mana regen. My jungle build usually goes like this item 1401 item 3070 item 3111 item 3065 item 3110 item 3071 item 3004 roughly in that order. I will probably pick up mune whenever I get near 700 stacks.

He's basically a Juggernaut. While you build defensive stats, I wouldn't recommend building purely defensive unless you want to be ignorable during teamfights.

While the build order will always change depending on the game and situation, I'd probably recommend something along the lines of:

item 3047 or item 3111, item 3070 item 3071 item 3742 item 3065 item 3004 item 3053

I'm not advocating you rush Boots first, but just that I would recommend either of those two when you do eventually get them.

Yeah that's almost exactly how I build. Again, his kit is confusing for me. Thank you for the suggestion! Maybe I'll try Sterak's Gage in future builds. Again, thank you!
