Why does Pantheon's passive block Gangplank's Q

Tworie··1 votes·2,082 views

I thought it was only supposed to block basic attacks, not abilities??? I think the passive description should be rewritten or make it so that he doesn't block his Q?

Panth's Q can crit so why isn't it blocked by Panth's passive?

Pantheon Q is an ability...

Then why is Gangplank's Q blocked?

Then why is Gangplank's Q blocked?

Pantheon's Q is just an ability with no on-hit effects. "Aegis Protection will also block all abilities that apply on-hit effects, such as Parrrley or Mystic Shot".

Panth's q crit still doesn't apply onhits. other abilities can crit, like garen's E

Crit is an onhit effect though

so why doesn't Pantheon's passive block Pantheon's Q?

crit is an onhit effect but the e doesnt make him gain crit it makes hit ability crit its still an ability criting it doesnt apply lifesteal or any of that

Well, you've gotten a lot of questionably worded answers that you don't seem satisfied with, so I'll take a shot.

Gangplank's Q is coded to function as a basic attack in almost every way, so other abilities tend to treat it as one. It's essentially just a ranged basic attack on a cooldown. That's the short version.

There's a couple other abilities that are also set up to pretty much function as a basic attack, though they have more restrictions or weirder mechanics. Ezreal's mystic shot is also set to function as a basic attack in most ways, but with the restriction of not critting. Usually this kind of ability is described as "applying on hit effects", which is probably the underlying flag to acting like a basic attack. Speculation here: it's possible that things like Pantheon's shield are actually coded as a sort of counter on-hit effect, but I'm not really sure on that.

as for Pantheon's spear, it's not an ability that emulates a basic attack or applies on-hit effects, its critical effect is just a unique mechanic for it.

Let's put this very simply.

If a spell description contains the phrase, "Applies on-hit effects," this can technically be translated, "This spell is treated like a basic attack for all intents and purposes." Whether or not it can Crit, it will still apply attack on-hit effects (Lifesteal, Thornmail, Wit's End, BotRK, etc).

Pantheon's passive is an inverse on-hit effect. When Pantheon is hit by a basic attack, the attack is negated.

Because Gangplank's Parrrley applies on-hit effects, it is treated as a basic attack, and is thus negated by Pantheon's passive.

Just thank that you as GP can orange his stun and you can now just barrel his passive.

Before rework your E was just a stat dump.

The barrel doesn't affect his passive

Thats why the new gankplank E is good against Pantheon as you can simply ignore his passive as I said.
