About Mobility: Misunderstanding and corrections.

Hi all. One subject that has been nagging me as been the subject of mobility and what people think it is. Some think it high movement speed or having dashes, but the truth is more complicated. Fact of the matter is that mobility consists of three factors. Movement speed, Instant repositioning(offensive versions are called gap closers) and terrain crossing. For a champion to be considered moblie they either need above average instant repositioning ability that can cross terrain while having decent movement speed(have high MS would be OP) or have a strong instant repositioning abilities at the cost of terrain crossing.

So while some champions have a movement speed steroid to help them stick to a target. Being able to manipulate the gap between two champions can mean the difference between a kill or an escape at low HP(summoner 4 anyone?) so while claim that high MS is a form of mobility, they are true to an extent as a certain level of movement is needed while mobility abilities are on CD. But relying on MS for gap closing is not a reliable means to closing gaps fast enough to create advantage quickly.

So in short what makes a champion mobile is are the following criteria, starting from strongest attribute to the weakest:

  1. Are they able to cross terrain?
  2. How fast and how far can they travel?
  3. how frequently can they move?
  4. What are the conditions for their movement abilities. (High CD, can't cross terrain, must hit a target etc.)
  5. What is their baseline movement speed.

Any champion that can't reposition quickly are considered immobile, so while high movement speed does alleviate this issue somewhat, it's no substitute for a dash or a blink unless the target is too close to escape

Anyways this helps on clarifying the confusion about mobility.

Peace.

Yup exactly my argument for whats needed to make champion's like Udyr and Volibear relevant in S7. Move speed increase is no substitute for a dash because you just get CCed when you're close enough for them not to be able to miss the skill shot.
