For the vs event it made sense, because you choose for the side you want. But why do i need to have an arcade icon for an event that doesn't have any sides to choose? There's no good or evil side to gain points for there to be a victor, but just an event that everyone can do for fun. Not sure why i need to equip an icon when i worked hard for the rhaast one and have been using it since.
Whats the deal with it? Its only for like 2 weeks and afterwards you can change back to whatever icon you prefer. The summoner icons are just a small cosmetic feature...I don't really see the problem with being forced to change it if you want to participate in a special event.
Eh, it's only for 2 weeks. Gotta sacrifice a little enjoyment to get free skins.

I for one am choosing to ignore this round of quests to revel in my URF icon while playing ARURF. I'm fine with missing out on what basically amounts to a lottery ticket.
I think it's about spreading awareness to other players, and making a sense of community (like "wow, almost everyone in this match is doing the event") or something like that.
Especially since it makes it so 50% of the community all have the same icon, which really gets old. To the point where no one wants to even use those icons anymore after the event.
The problem I have is I have one of the first urf icons that does the cool kill effect. These icons only work in urf mode. Now if I want to enjoy my urf icon and the benefits there of I have to forfeit completing quests...... that is a bunch of BS right there.
There's complaints for everything on this board :/ Riot's doing this great event for free stuff but nah, i hate having this icon equipped.

I'd agree but the icons are so small and pointless, riot needs to make them stand out more somehow.
there are like 10 icons that are eligible for rewards so it isn't like Riot is forcing everyone to use the same one.
You only need to play like 5 games for most of the actual missions (the ziggs/malz/brand/etc missions) so you can complete them fairly quickly (especially on URF since the games are short and you are almost guaranteed the gold and kill based ones) and go back to whatever icon you want.
If you don't like it then don't participate. I just don't want you to all complain Riot doesn't give out more free stuff when they are giving out A LOT of free/cheap shards and such during each of these events.

It made sense for the VS but how would the game know that you want to be a part of the event, if there wasn't a prerequisite to earning the points towards it? This is basically a "YES" or "NO" questionnaire. You can still use the icon if you like it but not generally care to participate in the event anyway.
Equipping the icon is really irrelevant because you can always change it back. It's not like it's stuck with you forever. So you can always change back to Kayne icons when you finish farming whatever event you want to participate in.
Lol its not like you have an identity with your icon or anything, you're not losing out on anything by equipping the icon.
Its riots way of promoting the missions for not just more sales but also for people in games to feel camaraderie with those on their own team and some opponents, by way of 'oh look, theyre doing the missions too - "GLHF dude!!" ' . that kind of garbage.
