Is it time for an AD-based support champion?

Yes, yes. I get the talk about item 3303 ,item 3301 and item 3302. I have no problem with those. And don't want an AD based support item - I don't think it is needed. Yet.

But after seeing some experimenting with Camille and even Ashe as support, I can't help but wonder if it is time for an AD-based support champion appearing. The coin and shield are perfectly fine for such purposes - so no, you don't need a new item as suggested. But it would be nice if we could get a support champion with ad-scaling talents that allow for decent crowd-control in lane (slows, stuns and AOE effects) that would benefit teammates more and would allow them some AD-based poke in botlane. And no, those melee based tanky types that have been pushed for the past few years just aren't adequate in the rock-paper-scissors nature of botlane.

Currently, most of the AD champs that are being generated are still more aimed at 1v1 battles. The meta as it has been evolving seems to suggest that there is a gap that needs to be filled by such a champion - perhaps to counter the range-based mages that we are seeing dominating the support positions lately.

True. But she is still scaled for AP-based actions which is why the AD trick works (ironically).

I am thinking more of a new champ that has toned down base attacks on the support champ and whose abilities allow for scaling off of the AD.

Interesting idea. For JarvanIV , he would have to be built more tanky to work on botlane than AD-ish, I think.

But with the recent introduction of Stoneborn Pact, in theory he could still work - as long as the ADC knew how to poke them when the debuff/mastery was activated.

Still, JarvanIV is once again more of a tank than the AD-based (crowd control) support I was thinking of.

Again you have your passive and with the scaling ad runes your fine. 9 0 21 get stone born or grasp. Always max e then w the q due to matching cds . Then only use w after you eq many people do not which voids your proc on stone born. The only adc that it's useless for is ez I hate ez dude is trash early game and I mean trash. But you'll have to remind your vayne adc to only use knock back after you ult

Pantheon support

I was thinking that too. But the crowd control leaves something to be desired - unless you count his ultie.

To a point, the problem is that Sion can literally swing 3 ways - tank, AP support or AD support. And I think this is why he is doing so well as a botlane support atm. He is one of a few that is actually filling that needed AD support niche. (The top builds on champion.gg and op.gg for support Sion is AD-based.)

Sadly, he is not scaled properly as a support - so he reminds me a lot of the Camille supports we have been seeing in LCS. Not a good fit but doing well in his current job...
