1/27 PBE Update

Sona

  • Base HP increased to 497.6 from 482.36

  • HP Per Level decreased to 70 from 77

  • Base attack damage increased to 52.04 from 50.04

  • Movement Speed increased to 330 from 325

  • Base mana regen reduced to 1.6184 from 1.8

  • Mana regen per second per level .13 from .08

Let's calculate.. at lvl 18, the new Sona hp base would be 498 + 1330 = 1828 hp at lvl 18 previously it was 482 + 1436 = 1946 hp at lvl 18

So yeah,Sonas health scaling did got reduced, though she has now at earlier levels a bit more hp than at later stages of the game, so I think it's alright. Base attack damage got increased? Well then, seems like that Riot wants to keep the on-hit Sona

At least they'll revert the Movement Speed nerf wich is good. Mana regen at lvl 18 would be 4.07 Before the change it was 3.32

Seems like Riot is planning something with Sona.. Though the mana regen nerf at early game might be more critical if Sona gonna use her Heal, I just hope Riot will do something intresting with her, I feel something.

Lets put that HP difference into perspective.

At level 1 she'll have 15.3 additional HP. That's about a 3% buff at level 1. Which falls off to about 1.5% buff at level 2. Then like a .1% buff at level 3. Then it's a nerf at level 4 onward. That's pretty shitty.

Edit: It's actually less than a 1.5% buff at level 2 since 7hp will be a lower percent of total HP value at the time because of scaling.

welp, turning sona more into a glasscanon is a horrible decision.

Not exactly. It's worth remembering that League's stat scaling per-level is nonlinear right now, so she'd only be getting 72% of her per-level gain at level 1. While it's not a huge difference, it does mean that it will take a little bit longer for the early game health buff to be equaled out by by the per-level scaling nerf. I don't know the exact per-level coefficients off-hand, but I'm pretty sure it actually takes until level 5 before it is a nerf. Very small difference, but worth keeping in mind.

Unfortunately, the same thing applies to her per-level mana regen buff. It will take longer for her mana regen to equal out.

Yep, legendary DJ skin, week after its release they will nerfhammer her to ground again. No LC$BIGPLAYS, no nerf immunity.

What if it's actually the ultimate skin, since it's been there untouched for months

It would take old sona about 2 lvs to get up to the same lv as after these 'buffs'. So, I'm quite sure that was a nerf.

They had to nerf her mana regen casue people in the know were running 4 flat regen yellows with the regen utility and never going OOM.

Others were running 9 scaling MR yellows for +11 late game

Sailor Mint1 votes

Yellows? Mp5 glyphs were better and you didn't have to sac Health or Armor runes.

More MP5 and slightly less health past level 5. At level 18: Health: 1791 -> 1688 MP5: 15.8 -> 19.1

Is gaining 3.342 Base Mana Regen worth the loss of 103 Health?

On Sona? Yeah it probably is.

The usual broken "trade-off" Riot-logic rears its ugly head again. Further proof they don't understand balance. Not once in the history of Riot making "trade-offs" has it ever been a healthy change to the game ever.

More HP for the first couple levels: Fine, whatever. Now maybe she can survive the level 1 insta-gib in bot lane that every team has been employing against her every game she's picked. Lol just kidding, her W is still useless. If anything, this just makes her more tempting to instagib every level 3 and higher.

Sona is now the 3rd lowest HP at level 18, down 7 places; and the 9th lowest at level 1, only up by 4 places: NERF

The 2 extra AD is a buff, she's now 1 point higher than Nami instead of 1 point lower. Oh well, more incentive for Nami to give her E over to that Cait/Lucian instead of putting herself at "risk."

The movement speed nerf is undone. It was a horrible decision by Riot's balance team, I'm amazed they're competent enough to realize this. Regardless, she's still a tier below Nami.

Her mana regen is blatantly being nerfed, no up-sides here. She already had lower base mana than Nami, now she has lower regen too and her oppressive costs are still untouched. The extra regen MUCH later on is meaningless considering she'll already long since had Mana Font or some other source.

Her unplayable kit will remain untouched, but even less usable now with her lower base stats to rely on. Lower HP makes her melee-range death zones less usable for her team. Lower mana regen means less harass, sustain, mobility and CC all at once.

Conclusion: 2 severe nerfs, 1 revert, 1 minor buff = This is an overall nerf to Sona

For the sake of accuracy:

Sona (along with Janna, Nami and Soraka) currently uses the support mana regen formula (higher base, low scaling) and is getting switched to the standard caster formula (lower base, high scaling). Overall, it's a small early game nerf that translates into a significant lategame mp5 increase with items.

She gets slightly higher health when it matters and very slightly less lategame. Sona is not a frontline champion, she doesn't need to Flash into the entire enemy team to be effective. And it's not like the AP/support itemization lacks defensive options.

You can disagree with stuff, but at least use the right numbers.

It looks like a buff to HP until level 4, her mana regen will be better than currently at level 5 if the math I did in my head is correct. Movespeed returns to what it was before this last nerf and attack damage goes up by 2 which probably isn't too significant.

I imagine people are going to get hung up on the HP part.

It Is I Emoto1 votes

well, it's 100 less health, but I don't know why they gave her 2 extra damage its like they really wanna support her new auto attack style, while people have been raging about the powerchords probably a balance change because of her 10% less extra damage on her Q powerchord? I just want them to rework her auras already..

And another file slipped through on the PBE about DJsona so this might be leading to something.

is it just me or does rito keep putting more and more skillshots on their champsSoraka for example

Not so sure about the Exact numbers. So I'm not entirely sure that the Nerfs would effect her play that much.

I tend to play sona, pretty kite and fight style. And Reverting the MS nerf will support said style of play.

the +2 AD is kinda peanuts, though. It might just be a minor compensating buff for the Q aura nerf. Which means they were more concerned about giving the buff to others.

Over all, I would say I'm neutral about the changes. I will probably still use her.
