They nerfed Sona... again!

1/5 PBE Update

Sona - Movement speed lowered to 325 from 330 Well yeah, either Riot really hates her or it's a balance change that I'm not goind to understand. In the last post on s@20, Phreak talked about Zyras movement speed, and let me quote something;

Malzahar has rather short range. He also has no crowd control unless he's channeling it. I think it's totally fair to give him high move speed for a ranged champion

What do we know about Sona?

  • Her Auto-Attack range is as the same as Malzahars
  • She has like Malzahar, almost no reliable Crowd-Control (her E is a expection, because it needs to be charged) until level 6
  • Though, her ultimate has a higher cooldown than Malzahars and has a much higher Mana cost.

I feel like that Riot begins to contradict themselfs with her nerfs, because she was at first a utility based champion, then the reworked turned her to a poke champion, and with the next nerfs, she becomes ultimate reliant, and will be at the pre-6 phase just a oversized minion that can steal the adcs cs.

Being the most immobile support in the game and in the top 5 squishiest champions with the lowest sustain and damage amongst supports isn't good enough for Riot. She needs even more risk for her lack of reward.

The most immobile? Wat?

she is litterally the squishiest support ever. Welcome to the league of nerfing supports. Featuring Zed and Fizz the toxic assassins

*cough Zyra

*cough pre-6 hard CC

*cough cough Yasuo synergy

CC only makes you less squishy if you can peel. Peel those without dashes, anyways. Zyra still dies way easier than Sona.

I shouldn't have been surprised, but this is blowing my mind.

I seriously don't understand these nerfs she's been getting hammered with.I can't recall her being overbearing in recent memory aside from maybe Aram, which was lessened by quite a bit with the chalice and healing nerfs. She's also going to be slower than Nami now,so there's even less reason to pick Sona over her.

That is hella funny

Sona has taken about six nerfs in a five month period.

Skarner got nerfed after two weeks

Meanwhile, Lee, Fizz, Zed, Akali, and Lucian stay broken broken, and Yasuo even got his nerfs reverted.

Lol, I was expecting strong Sona buffs not nerfs (of any kind). Pre-Lich Bane Sona is actually useless, like totally useless, like weakest early game champion in the game. Her heal heals for nothing until she manages gets tons of AP late game - Her shield shiels for nothing until she manages gets tons of AP late game, her speed-boost is not making a difference until late game, and her poke got nerfed again. She is essentially an early game free loot piñata for the enemy team.

I honestly don't know what Riot is thinking. This is almost too funny. its like kicking a cripple when she is down.

Yet Riot STILL refuses to make her immune to Silences.

At this rate playing Malz support is more viable than Sona support lol

Rather annoyed at the Malzahar comparison, since Malzahar doesn't AoE stun your team, or have a long ranged autotargeting nuke + AA boost.

The Q bolts do a whopping 40 damage at rank 1, her real damage is the 550 range powerchord.

so, Malzahar has a aoe missing per hp dot, wandering dot spell, the greatest wave clear in the game, and a supression, wich has a lower cooldown than Sonas ult and costs less too.

So, Sona has a auto attack nuke, and it's range is 550, has 3 auras, and the range for all of them are 350.

why i picked him as comparision champion is, that he is as sona, having no cc pre 6 and having the same auto attack range too.

Well one is intended to be a Solo laner, while the other is generally played as a support. Idk if it's fair to compare the two when they were designed to fulfill different roles.

It Is I Emoto6 votes

I was quoting something from Phreak, talking about that it's fair for Malzahar having higher movement speed in return for having almost no cc. So, Sona might be not designed as Mage as Malz, but she's like him, having no way of defending herself, except her ultimate or flash, making probably the movement speed one of the most critical ones right next to the heal nerf, making it easier for her enemies to catch her up, and probably forcing her to take some early points in her e, so she can at least dodge better. Zyra has the same movement speed, but it's fair to say that, because she has a extreme good snare, snaring everyone in a line, wich probably would also feel like a Sona ult, if she's getting chased and everyone would follow her in a line.

What reason are they nerfing Sona for?? Like what reaason?

King KiIler2 votes

I hate laning vs a sona because of the LOW COUNTER PLAY amount of pook that she brings, and the incredible sustain also. There is simply nothing u can do about it. Not to mention how powerful her ult is. Lane bully early---> Oriana late. She needs to be nerfed

And don't tell me "just engage on her". In SOLO QUEUE supports dont do shit. They allow her to harass for free and dont ever engage.

If you have problems with enemy Sona, ask your support to do something against it, if they don't realise what happens. Janna can shield, Leona can engage, Zyra and Morgana can snare, Thresh and Blitz can hook, and etc.. Sona has to get in auto attack range of the most adcs, so don't say it like that Sona has no counterplay. Just do a aa on her, as corki you even do true damage, leaving Sona in a really critical spot with her low hp base.

Except Crescendo has been exactly the same, even before they began nerfing her on July 30th. Yet she wasn't "OP" even back then, if anything just perfectly balanced. Intentionally nerfing a balanced champion 21 times when true OPs like Thresh exist proves Riot's balance team is either beyond unqualified or completely prejudiced.

The only thing "risky" about Sona is that she can be all-inned pre-6 and die. Guess what, that's a perfectly acceptable risk considering it's her only counterplay. If you do any sort of 2v2 trade that doesn't result in her death, you're automatically at a disadvantage because she will just sit behind the wave spamming W till both her and her ADC are back to full. Don't say she'll run out of mana because it rarely does and after one trip back to the fountain that won't ever happen.

Sona's kit is outdated and the only thing to tweak is numbers. She's like GP, not allowed (and rightly so) to be strong early because the kit itself is oppressive.

She can be all inned any time, especially against Leona post-6. And yes, she /does/ run out of mana because mana regen is shit atm and her heal costs a lot; you're making it sound like recalling isn't a big deal, you're losing gold and exp every second you're not in lane and your opponent is.

How is her kit outdated if she got a rework a few months ago?

i like to remind you that she heals less at rank one than a relic shield charge.
