Please don't remove the Kayn DFT/Corrupting Pot/Red Smite passive interaction

So DanielZKlein recently posted on Twitter that the interaction of getting orbs from DoT effects was a bug and it would be "fixed" next patch.

As someone who now has 52k and M7 on Kayn so far, removing this is going to put him in a bad spot. His levels 4-9 are just so damn bad in comparison to other champs. Getting his ultimate doesn't even feel like a powerspike. He will get pretty much destroyed by every other champ in the game before he transforms.

DoT effects allow him to get that transformation powerspike like 3-4 minutes earlier which actually makes him a decent jungler and makes him at least VIABLE in a lane. Removing it is gonna put him in a weak position since he wont be able to get that powerspike until like 15-20 minutes.

Without DoT effects he literally doesn't get to transform until the game is more than half over. Most of the time it's already decided by then. Being able to get your spike at 10 minutes means you actually have a impact on the game.

What angers me most is you're going to remove this interaction but not remove that Cho+Stoneplate interaction?

ok but if its a bug then it needs to be addressed. once they address this they (RIOT) can make a clear decision in how to make the champ viable but if its not addressed then other parts of his game play that makes him bad are gonna go unaddressed

But the problem is he's literally fine rn, this is a unnecessary nerf and would he fine if they just left it alone. It's not even really a bug, it's completely within the strictures of his passive.

UnboundHades3 votes

its a bug fix not a nerf and if hes garbage after this then he just needs some buffs to fix that simple stop crying or it

AirKingNeo2 votes

Bugfixes can be nerfs. See: Ekko, Thresh, Zed, now Kayn.

ok if its not intended then its a bug ... so like i said if they correct this issue they could have a better idea how to balance him give him help where its needed instead of this masking a strength thats not intended

Hong Kong Revolt2 votes

Yep, never before has Riot or any other game company turned a bug into a main feature after the players like it. Never ever. Ever.

Based on what? Your opinion?

the weeaboo5 votes

According to op.gg he has a 49.45% winrate which is about as close to balanced as you can get in this game

Malicious Metal3 votes

Not a good way to gauge this. Newly released champs were sitting on sub 50% win rates for a long while before turning out to be busted.

the weeaboo1 votes

It's been almost 3 weeks I think people have learnt to play him by now...

DoktorKaiser1 votes

He is a new champ, ofc he has a shitty win rate. The Kayn "mains", if you want to call them after just a month of actually playing , can easily carry 1v5 and the champion is more than broken after his buffs if played correctly. He needs a shitty as fuck early game to be allowed to have that amount of healing, mobility and untargetability late game.

the weeaboo1 votes

49.45% isn't shitty... And the only way he can "1v5" is if your team refuses to buy Bramble Vest, Morello, or Executioners because he isn't tanky at all, it's all sustain

AirKingNeo2 votes

Doesn't really matter if it's a bug or not. It's a nerf regardless and he'll need compensation for such a nerf. It's not a huge, gamewarping bug. It's literally what keeps him viable in lane.

If there's no compensation buff, people have the right to complain.

where did i say he couldnt be looked at and adjusted after this bug is fix?

plz tell me ...

i think i stated that riot could look at his balance afterword and adjust him where he needs help but they need to get this bug fixed 1st so it dont mask other issue he is having and this bug is inflating his win rate/damage/ etc

AirKingNeo1 votes

Sadly, "afterward" would be unfair. Why should Kayn top be left unplayable for a few patches until someone fixes it? Why not just keep the interaction until then?

Keep in mind, Riven's animation cancels are bugs and were left in the game. I cannot see a reason why Kayn top can't be kept until further fixing.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

they would have to know where to adjust the champ based on his stats after the fix other wise they wont know where it needs help

and to do so with out that data they could OVER BUFF him and then people be crying over that

AirKingNeo1 votes

This is Kayn's passive. It's very very easy for them to run multiple play tests for how to buff his passive fillrate, since he will need that buff no matter what.

Rexxiee4 votes

Kayn is closer to "too strong" than "too weak" (he was even played mid lane in competitive already, BEFORE he got buffed), and him taking a while to transform is a intended weakness, bypassing it by a bug should be fixed.

AirKingNeo2 votes

DZK literally posted on twitter, "Lane Kayn is already dead" pointing out his winrate for top lane.

Kayn is not "too strong" even in his eyes.

TwitchInMyPants4 votes

I'm ok with them removing it assuming they speed up his passive a bit. I don't think you should depend on any specific item to play properly in a game with tons of items in it. If corrupting potion is the best investment every game and you shouldn't change because of how efficient it is, it'd be healthier to change that, but only if the character's power level stays similar to where it is.

hhaavviikk3 votes

how about they fix this ''bug'' and increase the rate at which he gains orbs? I'd rather have that otherwise you would always feel forced taking dft and the like.

Did Riot really say that? Surely even Riot can't be so fucking retarded to claim that dealing damage to champions affecting something that happens when dealing damage to champions is a bug.

the weeaboo3 votes

Was the wow in response to his profile pic or the tweet lol

Catastrop2 votes

I don't understand his this is a bug. He's doing damage to them, why should it NOT charge up his passive?

Ben Sharpio2 votes

hes actually incredibly broken especially in his red form. I don't get why people want him to be strong early/mid game when his lategame is so ridiculous.... He builds tabi and maybe a randuins, the rest damage and is still so disruptive.

i'm happy that theyre nerfing him in some way

CithriaC2 votes

Getting orbs from dots seems like it was actually not intended. I always thought kayns passive only stacked with abilities and autos.

The fix makes sense because the bug allows kayn to avoid his early weakness but more importantly, it forced kayn to get a specific summoner spell. Buffing or nerfing the spell would affect kayn more than other champions.

When it gets fixed riot can buff kayn properly without having to nerf dft or corrupting potion.

It is a bug that changed kayn's gameplay.

AirKingNeo1 votes

Except he's balanced currently. They should buff him the same patch because otherwise he's weak no reason.

A Bad Nasus2 votes

It is really disappointing that riot wants to get rid of alternate playstyles. Solo lane Kayn is alot of fun if it weren't for his weak laning phase, deathfire and corrupting potion helps him get the transformation that much faster allowing him to feel impactful before the laning phase is over. They just want to shove kayn into the jg and leave him there. If this interaction gets removed lane kayn is done for.

DunkinNoobs2 votes

Balancing a champ around a gimmicky, unintended interaction is a really stupid idea.

Sire Hippington1 votes

that's not a good reason to keep the interaction, rather remove it and then retune his passive progress. Cause as it is now, you are kinda forced into certain items and a masterie which often wouldn't be ideal if it wasn't for that passive interaction. Freeing up his item and masterie choice would be a good thing to do, and if he turns out needing to long to get his transform powerspike, one can always reduce the damage needed for transform.

the weeaboo1 votes

A keystone meant for casters (which he is) and a 500 gold starting item don't exactly sound like item resrictions to me.

Sire Hippington1 votes

it's not exactly a great caster keystone, it's more for poke, and that's not really his thing. As darkin, he's more a bruiser and profits far more from fervor, and as assasin, he's about burst so TLD or Stormraiders are more fitting. There is a reason for why DFT hardly is used by any assasin or ad-caster.
