Caitlyn should not be able to lay a trap directly beneath you

She should only be able to set traps around her at melee range. How the fuck does she "arm a trap" from like 10-20 feet away? She's not even a magical character.

That's how I'd balance the fucking traps.

Sraeg20133 votes

She doesn't even arm them.

She snaps her fingers and they magically appear.

dont forget the "Effort" sound she makes. "Ugh" - Caitlyn setting up a trap in 2016.

Sraeg20131 votes

She does?

That's a news for me.

She performs projectile vomiting on those traps to get them that far. You just can't see because you blink when it happens.

Jmman9 votes

better yet. Give it a 2 secs "arm" time. That way you have to pre set them. And just can't auto set them on cced champs or on you.

Supreme Senpai692 votes

Isn't their arm time 1.1s right now?

Jmman1 votes

There is but a longer time will help with cc to straight trap and putting a lot down to trap you in.

linkmastr0018 votes

Her traps already have a 1.1s arm time, so you should be trying to move out of it.

so she turns any slow into a snare, kek

Yes, which in this case is called synergy with another champion, since her own form of slow (50% on 90 Caliber Net) only lasts 1 sec~~, and she cannot put traps down while flying backwards with her Net.~~

EDIT: I have been proven wrong about this per CaptnJakSparrow's reply post below.

Also, you say that like she's the only champion who can take someone slowed and apply more CC to them. Anyone can add CC on someone already CC'd.

EDIT: fixed typo

I don't have a problem with a little synergy here and there. I have a problem with spamming traps to snare someone 3 times in a row on someone who can't avoid it and trying to justify it with "muh synergy".

That wasn't clear to me from your post, I was interpreting it as you complaining about standing somewhere and her dropping a trap below you and getting trapped, not stacking up the snares by dropping a large amount of traps.

That said, the situation you describe is impossible, unless you stand there. After you trigger the Trap, you are now immune to them for 4 secs "while you remain in the area" (according to LolWiki). While that phrasing is rather vague, if Caitlyn did multistack them all in your spot, you could walk out without caring. That said, I do envision if she surrounded you rapidly with traps, you could walk into a new one and get caught. Even then, with only 5 traps max at a time, Caitlyn won't be able to surround you completely and you'll have options.

Also, fun fact. Hypothetically, if Caitlyn drops a trap right in front of you (like you're literally touching the very edge) and you walk through it, it shouldn't get you. Traps have a radius of 67.5 units (125 diameter). Even the slowest character (Anivia with 325 MS) with a 50% slow (moving with an ~191.25 MS because MS calculations are weird) and no boots would walk through it before it arms. Since it takes 1.1s to arm, Anivia moves 191.25 Units/S, and the distance she would cover in that time is greater then the radius of the trap, 125, she would be scott free.

You forgot to take in account the hitbox of the champion. Your calculation is like the tail of Anivia is touching the very edge, and not the beak.

When they were changing hitboxes of champions to fit their roles, some of the hitboxes were released. idk where that is, though.

Well, the synergy of having a free 2s snare and a free massive crit, as long as anyone in your team has the slightest amount of CC, on top of having already a great zoning/siege power is what makes Cait's W.. hardly balanced.

And it's not like it's a big hit or miss.. you can spam those little sh*ts and have 5 down, like.. what the hell?

Sure is a great idea to let the designer of Yasuo and Kalista take care of the Caitlyn rework, huh

Well, the synergy of having a free 2s snare

Its not free unless you already are ccd in which case any champ can chain cc you

and a free massive crit,

Her trap is not a crit. Its a headshot.

Then vayne comes and tumbles you + stattik shiv for 1200

And it's not like it's a big hit or miss.. you can spam those little sh*ts and have 5 down, like.. what the hell?

If you max W yes that means your Q is extremely weak so as long you arent stepping in traps Cait will lose any 1v1 with another adc in that case.

Um, Headshot's damage scales with crit, and can crit. So id say there same thing really. Not even counting the AD buff you get if someone did step on the trap.

Saying its a ''free massive crit'' is wrong

Caitlyns headshot is not a crit.

Theres no debating or justification to that statement. It's wrong.

Why you even have a single upvote is beyond me since you're spreading false information.

The intent was never to spread misinformation. I've just never seen or read of that interaction.

I stand corrected and have updated my post accordingly

Katarina 600k on kat and I hate that. I'm instantly dead XD

Caitlyn 100k on cait, and I love doing it to other people.

I wouldn't want it changed. Its too funny and can be expected lol

SeaGodUrronuos1 votes

The issue with saying that would mean that you would have to agree with not being able to shroom someone ontop of you aswell if you cannot see that she is placing down a trap and move accordingly you would need to practice on that accordingly but saying that she shouldn't be able to do that would mean someone like teemo shouldn't be able to place a shroom under you aswell and that would take away from defensive abilities that they may need as low hp targets.

Matake1 votes

Cait should have to channel laying the trap for the arm time.

Critmaster Garen1 votes

id be content if she couldnt spam traps under your fucking turret.

Baka Red1 votes

Maybe Caitlyn should throw the traps as skill shots, and if the sliding trap hits someone before reaching the desired distance, the trap would only slow the target that was hit. If it hits nobody, it will go to the targeted distance and arm itself to act as current Caitlyn trap. Hm, since I love playing Caitlyn, I better not suggest this on the boards, since it would be rather nasty nerf. Yep, I definitely won't post this on the boards.

Danjeng1 votes

Doesn't sound like a nerf to me. Caitlyn then pretty much has a built Frozen Mallet with your suggestion, because of how spammable the traps are. The opposing laner has two choices, none of them good. One- get slowed by getting hit by the trap, Two- avoid the trap and let it set up.

Baka Red1 votes

Yes, that actually hit me later. Well, we won't see that 'nerf' in game. Thanks for the reply.

Billybaroo23141 votes

I think Cait's traps would be fine if they were able to be triggered by the minion wave as well. Jhin's flowers are, Teemo's shrooms are, having the traps be triggered by the minion wave would at least give you a viable escape path and prevent her from zoning you just by placing a line of traps down. Would require thought, and not just spamming them to get the headshot. I don't mind them being placed under me if cc'd by team mate, but make some counterplay viable with them and a little thought process would be nice as well.
