Can we admit that Sona is just an extremely poorly designed champion?

Report Team GG··7 votes·3,430 views

She's jack of all trades, master of none.

The issue is that when you stop mana gating Sona she becomes broken. She's easily the most broken champion in ARAM because there is no counter to infinite heals without cost.

She has the skills necessary to suit multiple playstyles. She all ins just as well as she plays the heal and poke game. Her heal and poke game is arguably the best right now and she's just annoying as hell to deal with no matter the game mode whether it's ARAM or SR.

But she's got a solid engage/teamfighting skills as well carrying with her an AoE ult.

The problem with sona is that she's the master of none, but that doesn't mean she isn't 80% as good as a teamfight support and it doesn't mean she isn't 80% as good as a sustain/heal support.

Riot, you need to punch Sona in the face right now. Cripple her healing and put it all in a shield. There... Now you've got Sona as a champion who really is about poking and trading.

The only poorly designed things about Sona are the crappy rework and the terrible in-game model changes. Ezreal and Shurelia gave birth to a beautiful songstress with a truly innovative kit. It was Fearless who bastardized that and ruined her.

Worst design? Sona? Really?

There's so much propaganda and so many transparent lies here, I'm about to vomit from the sheer immoral dishonesty of it all.

The issue is that **when you stop mana gating Sona **she becomes broken. She's easily the most broken champion in ARAM because there is no counter to infinite heals without cost.

Sona's heal is the most expensive in the game and her base mana is considerably low, she's already been mana gated REALLY hard.

Her heal and poke game is arguably the best right now

Sona has the lowest base damage of the entire support class at 40 base damage on her 1 sole damage ability. This is tied ONLY by Taric's **2 **damage abilities and Leona's Q, whereas Leona still has 2 more damage abilities with higher bases for a total of 3 damage abilities.

Likewise, she has has the weakest heal in the game. At max potential, it only TIES the 2nd lowest heal in the game, but still has lower scaling.

Fact of the matter is, Sona is unworthy of the title "Jack of all Trades." Her actual viability is "Two of all trades," as in the 2 is the weakest card in the deck, because Sona is the weakest in every stat amongst the entire support class. She has the lowest base damage, base healing, base shield, mobility, pre-6 CC and ability range. All whilst being in the top 5 squishiest champions in the whole game. Fearless has gutted her into oblivion, she's mathematically the weakest champion in all of League.

Sona's heal is the most expensive in the game

Gonna stop you there

Pika3106 votes

sigh

Soraka: 20 mana

Alistar: 40 mana

Kayle: 60 mana Nidalee: 60 mana Taric: 60 mana

Nami: 70 mana

Sona: 80 mana

Now that I've listed the numbers, I'm going to restate this FACT again; Sona's heal is the most expensive in the game. Anyone can check these numbers, they're official. No math, just solid figures. The only ambiguous aspect is Soraka's unique HP cost, which can be offset by Starcall.

killd0zer1 votes

Rank 1 isn't the entire game.

@rank 5 Sona: 100 Nidalee: 120

Most expensive in the game =/= most expensive at level 1

If we get to move the goal posts after we get called out, then I say Janna has the most expensive heal at level 1 at 100 mana

Pika3104 votes

GG, Nidalee's heal costs more at level 13. By then she has what, 1 or 2 Morellos and blue buff? Only ranks 1 and 2 are viable comparative calculations, hence why they are properly used.

That aside, Nidalee's max heal is 205 (+50% AP), whereas Sona's is only 110 (+20% AP). Twenty extra mana is negligible for nearly double the base and 2.5x the scaling. Especially considering Nidalee isn't a support, so she can actually afford to buy massive amounts of AP.

Fashion Mage1 votes

Supports can't afford the amount of AP that other lanes can get, but they can afford a decent amount of AP. At times I even have more AP than my midlaner (not exactly a common occurrence, but not that rare either). Add in the fact that there are lot of AP support items, and there's really no excuse for being unable to build AP on supports. I wouldn't mind having a few more AP support items being added though.

Sona's heal is multitarget and it scales with missing HP, so it's anywhere between 110 (+20% AP) to 165 (+30% AP). So with two targets that would be 220 (+40% AP) to 330 (+60% AP). It's a weaker single target heal, but the heals aren't entirely comparable either way I suppose.

Pika3105 votes

Except Sona cannot control who she heals, it's automatic and the 2nd "target" is always herself. If she's at full HP, it's just an uncontrollable single-man heal. Then the % scaling on it is an inherently flawed design when her base heal was nerfed because of it. To be on-par just base number-wise, she has to wait for an ally to be 70% dead. By that point, they'll already be in danger of being burst down especially when considered Execution masteries and abilities.

That all aside, I'd also much rather have the 7-second AS boost from Primal Surge as opposed to a 0-second shield with the lowest health amongst the entire support class.

Fashion Mage1 votes

I never said it wasn't conditional, I was just stating its theoretical full power when you were only comparing her heal at lowest power with Nidalee's heal. Nidalee's heal is also somewhat conditional due to the AS buff, but not quite as much as Sona's of course. Not that I mind that personally.

I'd really rather Sona's heal not become like Nidalee's heal. Even if Sona's heal is weaker generally, I think it's a more interesting skill than Nida's.

Pika3103 votes

So it'd be better to compare Sona's heal to Taric's, since the two of them actually have the exact same heal ability. Except Taric does it better, he chooses who to heal, can heal himself for extra if need be, it costs less and is 33% stronger than Sona's maximum(impossible) healing amount.

Not to mention Taric still has his aura when Sona's were all removed, has pre-6 hard CC and has 2 damage abilities, rather than just one.

Fashion Mage1 votes

Taric's heal doesn't have the shield aura, and it's also on a much longer cooldown. I have to admit though, it'd be nice if Sona could target who she could heal like with Heal (the summoner spell).

They're completely different champions (excluding their heals) if you compare both of their entire kits, and it's also a whole different argument (that I'd rather not go into).

Pika3103 votes

No, Taric doesn't have a 0-second, weak shield fake "aura." He has a better real aura that permanently grants armor. The longer CD on his heal is made up for with his CD reduction passive.

I can understand why you wouldn't want to compare their entire kits, fact is Taric is a stronger champion and doing so would mathematically prove that. Which speaks rather clearly just how bad the "rework" was.

Fashion Mage1 votes

I literally just said that I'm not doing a kit comparison. I couldn't care less about trying to convince you that Sona is better or worse than Taric as a whole. What I'm comparing are their general healing power. Taric can hit a minion after his heal to decrease the cooldown of it by 2 seconds, using anymore of his abilities solely to decrease the cooldown of his heal by 4 more seconds would be wasting an enormous amount of mana and also make him vulnerable due to his cooldowns and armor aura being down (unless it's a combat situation of course, in which case his abilities would be being used against an enemy champ).

It really doesn't say anything about the rework, since the point of the rework wasn't to make Sona stronger. The rework can be considered bad because what Sona has currently aren't really auras, which is ironic since she's supposed to be the "aura" champion.

Pika3103 votes

Alright then, so let's compare only their heals:

Sona is 30 base, 80 mana, 10 CD, .5% self-scaling, 20% AP scaling

Taric is 60 base, 60 mana, 18 - 2x CD , 30% AP + 5% Bonus HP scaling, Relic Shield

If we set aside Taric's resets and Relic Shield, we multiply Sona's numbers by 1.8 to make up the CD desparity, thus giving us:

54 base, 144 mana

Healing allies at 2/3 HP is 62.9 HP and allies at a dangerously irresponsible 1/3 HP is 72 HP. That does not make up for the fact that Sona's heal is 2.4x as expensive as Taric's. Especially considering Taric has higher base mana, 24.44% higher mana per level and twice as much mana regen per level.

It Is I Emoto4 votes

er, I say its the most expensive heal on rank one, having no great base stats, no great scaling as well, and hell, wich sona starts with 100 ap at lvl 1? It's barley even noticeable if you compare it to namis or kayles rank 1 heal

killd0zer2 votes

Nowhere in his post does it say "most expensive at rank 1" I know it was at level 1.

"Most expensive" is ambiguous.

It Is I Emoto5 votes

no, but considering Sonas extreme low base mana, she can only heal about 4 times, and then she's oom.. and that's about the same amount of a raka heal, and she can cast it 9 times, even with spending her health to it, her Q passive allows her to heal up quite fast, and health regen is also a thing. Nami has much higher heal stats, a higher mana base, and it has about the same cooldown as Sonas heal. in my last game, I played as sona with the expanded mind masteries on, and the enemy nami still outscaled me with mana.

RedCyclone4 votes

I will agree with you but for the wrong reasons

Riot have nip-tucked her so much over the years, this SUPPORT champion cannot even effectively use a SUPPORT page anymore SHE GOES COMPLETELY AGAINST WHAT SUPPORT IS MEANT TO BE Her base values are CRAZY LOW, but her scaling in especially utility is AMAZING but she can't hold her own in a solo lane against anyone competent enough to recognize they are laning against a champion with no mobility and the health bar of the creeps you have been chewing on for the last 10 mins

Holy god, either make her into a damn support or a AP mid solo laner, it's like old Karma all over again

I will also go to say that I have probably played above 2000 Sona games, about 1/4th of those going midlane alone I somewhat agree with the rework on the part where she scales up, but she relies too much on it

Fashion Mage1 votes

I don't understand why people think that building AP means you're not supporting. AP doesn't mean "ability damage", it means "ability power", as in, the power of a champion's (not necessarily damage-dealing) abilities. In the case of supports, it scales the power of their supportive abilities. AP on AP Supports is primarily useful because it scales their utility, the slight damage boost is merely secondary.

I mean, do you think AP Jannas get AP so they can blow people up with burst or throw out devastating poke? They get it for the heal on her ult, her shield, her shield's AD, the slow on Zephyr, and the passive MS buff on Zephyr. The fact that her tornado and Zephyr do a bit more damage is just a side-bonus. Another perfect example is Soraka. Even with like 500AP, Soraka's damage is a joke. One builds AP on Soraka to scale the one thing she does well, and that's healing (ie. it's purely supportive). People don't build AP on her to deal damage.

i think the title is being misunderstood by most, because we are not talking about hear appearance, buf her poorly designed kit :p

Leblancs Boob3 votes

I'll agree that she's absurdly broken in ARAM, but she's pretty terrible in SR after all the nerfs she got recently. Literally no reason to play her over Nami or even Raka.

AtheosisX4 votes

She still has a very high win rate at high elos in case you didn't know.

It Is I Emoto4 votes

isn't that because her playrate is so low, that most players who play her are actually experienced with her? Nami has much more popularity than Sona, and about 25~40% of those nami players just pick her, because they need to counter the enemy support, or get forced into support and bought nami just in case if they ever support.

Though I agree with that Sona became much more of a harrass - like game style, and I dislike it pretty much

AtheosisX2 votes

isn't that because her playrate is so low, that most players who play her are actually experienced with her?

The issue with that assumption is I'm talking about Diamond and above where everyone is playing champs they're experienced with. In lower elos pick rate might matter, but in high elos it really doesn't.

It Is I Emoto5 votes

Well, according to that, Sona gets barley played above gold, and got replaced by janna, who's probably right now the best peeling support, and she doesn't even does anything that Sona can. she has a small aura that helps her allies, but that's it.

Sona get's replaced by other supports thanks to the continues nerfs, and I can even understand that, because she's not more that much worth to play just because of a small delayed aoe stun.

And according to the winrates between different leagues, Cass seems to wreck really well in silver, yet her mains are not satisified with her. That's how I feel with Sona too; she might have some power, but her playstyle is not Sona anymore, but a extreme weaker version of Nami.

Anyways, Janna has a high winratew in higher elos, does that mean according to your logic, that she deserves nerfs too? She is perfectly balanced right now in my opinion, but in the right hands she's fairly strong. So it was with Sona before all those nerfs, probably because her playerbase was so low, the people who disagreed the most with the rework were forced to find a playstyle for her that makes her efficient, and right now it's simply the poke playstyle, and many people dislike it.

AtheosisX2 votes

You really don't understand what I'm saying. I'm not arguing that Sona is the best support out there. I'm simply saying that she isn't currently underpowered. She received nerfs because at high elos she was dominating. That's just how it goes.

It Is I Emoto3 votes

You didn't say that she's the best support, that's true, but what I have understood is that you think at higher elos she's strong, yet she is barley played and don't got into the top 10 recently too in higher elos. I can say that those experienced players probably noticed her issues and that she is not anymore that much of a safe pick as she was before. It's alright if you think that she's balanced, because I thought she was alright before all those nerfs got her.

I'm sorry but wasn't Sona before her rework mostly about poke in lane anyways?

Hell, she use to do more damage with her poke BEFORE her rework.

If anything Riot flipped it with her rework.

She heals a good amount in lane because her poke isn't as strong as it use to be in lane.

But then late game with ap(as a support, which while viable in a sense, she's really too squishy to go full AP unless she's on ARAM because she lacks a reliable escape ability) she chunks people with her Q powerchord alone instead of using her Q and her powerchord to chunk someone.

It Is I Emoto1 votes

I can tell, she had great poke damage, because she was lacking of any damage abilities, though my most important rule was, that I won't waste any powerchords till there comes a situation where I need them. I always rushed to rank up her W and played her most the time as utility support, since her scalings and numbers were great and she didn't needed an ap. Sure, her Q did shitons of damage before, but she had not that annoying on hit damage, like she does now.

Right now she feels forced to build ap/lich bane, because she scales too well with it right now, this results in turning her into a more aggressive support, since her sutain ability is right now extremly weak, and lack of sustain in higher ranks in lane. Her heal has a horrible ability power scaling and horrible base stats, so if you go glass canon sona, her heal becomes of course more notice able, I'd say as notice able as Namis heal without any ap.

About the heal part though.. I honestly think she heals less than a red potion. 30 hp is as much as the relic shield heals with one charge, even if you can't heal every 10 seconds with relic shield, it's free, gives your adc and yourself extra gold, and you don't have to waste 50% of your whole mana pool too.

If you want to know my honest opinion, I'd be alright with it, if they remove her powerchords, but turn the actives on her q, w, and e more interactable with the enemies. Like, that her Q bolts apply 5 marks on the enemy, and that each ally would do additional damage to that target + a mini stun (at rank 1 0.1 seconds/at rank 5 0.5 seconds per ally) That her W would also apply a mark on an enemy, and if Sona or a ally attacks it, that that enemy recieves a damage output debuff, and the same thing for her E, so if allies or Sona attack the marked enemy, that their movement speed get lowered. Those buffs would not stack on the same enemy, so Sona players won't be able the abuse those debuffs.

Emmy Cha0s3 votes

About the heal part though.. I honestly think she heals less than a red potion. 30 hp is as much as the relic shield heals with one charge,

Relic Shield heals 40 HP per charge. Thus, Sona's heal is even worse than a Relic Shield charge by 25%.

It Is I Emoto4 votes

oh lmaooo now I wonder what all those guys will say against Sona, if they realise that her heal is literally more horrible than a relic shield charge

Except that Staccato has only had pure unadulterated nerfs, no AP increases, 2 base decreases, Staccato is literally 60% weaker than pre-"rework." Staccato was nerfed from 200% -> 150% in the "rework"(nerf) and it's going to be lowered again from 150% -> 140% next patch.

The issue with that assumption is I'm talking about Diamond and above where everyone is playing champs they're experienced with. In lower elos pick rate might matter, but in high elos it really doesn't.

Pick rate is still interesting to think about in diamond. For example, consider Ashe. Pretty high win rate, pretty low pick rate. That's an interesting contrast with someone like Lucian, with a low win rate and high pick rate.

I conjecture that it means something a bit different in diamond than in lower elo. I expect almost anyone in diamond to be playing champions they understand well. Instead, I think it speaks to the range of applicability of the champion. I believe Ashe isn't picked often because there are relatively few team comps she will work in, while Lucian is picked frequently because he goes with everything.

By the by, I think Sona is still quite strong in solo queue. Overreacting to Sona nerfs is something of a community pastime at this point, we've done it like a dozen times now.

It Is I Emoto3 votes

By the by, I think Sona is still quite strong in solo queue. Overreacting to Sona nerfs is something of a community pastime at this point, we've done it like a dozen times now.

Sadly, they're getting sona to a point where she becomes useless. I remember her being a unique stance champion, who's important decision was on wich stance she should be playing, so that her and her team win a fight.

Right now her kit is completly messed up with a shield that's not being useable, with on hit damage that only Sona and her adc profits the most, and a speed boost that can be only abused by Sona herself.

The new Sona is basically a poke champion with a little bit of sustain (thats what I've got by playing her), so they nerfed her heal, to make it even more useless at earlier stages of the game. It was extremly upsetting, because of the increased mana cost and the low bases on it, while the shield was way too weird to use.

So I've adapted to the full poke Sona, building glass canon with an lich bane, and people keep raging about it, because as Sona player I was forced to do it, otherwise she's extremly useless. And then came the nerf to her Q ability power scaling, it was only 0.05% but it still hit Sona hard, because she relies now way too much on her poke and her ultimate. The next upcoming nerf for Sona makes her much weaker, without anything in return. Glass canon poke Sona becomes weaker and she becomes only ultimate reliant, making her probably to one of the most useless champions in the game.

I believe she has an 8% average pick rate at Master. She also tends to be more popular in NA servers.

All things considering, that's a steady pick rate. Nami's was at like 16% two weeks ago, but since then has declined to 13%. This is because Janna has become the top contested pick, with a still rising pick rate in the 40s.

Yeah, but what's her winrate up there, in the hands of those good players? She don't appears there on the highest winrate champions, so she's not op there.

Nami, Sona and Janna are pretty much interchangeable at the moment. Poke, Heal, Transferable Damage Steroid, Peel. It's what Support-Mages are meant to be. It's honestly a damn shame Lulu got abused as a Solo Lane champion for so long (and subsequently got nerfed) because she'd be good right now.

Cindikle1 votes

That's part of what maker her Sona.

When you pick her. The enemy doesn't know your playstyle.

You pick Nami, the enemy knows what to expect much more easily.

There is also the fact that people think she needs all AP to work. But they don't understand how her new kit favors getting some tanky stats.

Her scaling isn't that amazing. By building AP means you wont get the most out of your aura's in a teamfight as you'll need to be further back. Building tanky lets you make the most of those auras. People can compare her heal. But when you add on a 5 man shield to the teamfight you'll start to see the difference. As well as the MS boost for those in the front. And a 5 man on hit damage. This is what I meant when i said the enemy doesn't know your playstyle. IMO this is why Ardent Censer is her highest winrate item. Load her team with a 25% AS buff for 6s every 9-6s. (I say 9 instead of 10 because the item comes with 10% CDR).

Also if you want the CC consider Iceborn Gauntlet. It does come with some AP. But it also comes with more CC and armor. It's not like you'll be getting that much AP as a support.

Pika3103 votes

IMO this is why Ardent Censer is her highest winrate item. Load her team with a 25% AS buff for 6s every 9-6s. (I say 9 instead of 10 because the item comes with 10% CDR).

Because we all know that Lissandra, Xerath and Jarvan are champions that absolutely LOVE bonus attack speed. They all build TONS of AD items and crit chance.

Ardent Censer is so very useless as an item. Over 85% of games, the ONLY ally on your entire team that benefits at all will be the ADC. In all honesty the item is even worse than Hymn, which is already a really bad ability. Hymn's on-hit proc only works on auto-attacking, an inherent nerf, but at least the jungler and top can MAYBE find the time to throw in a single auto-attack. Censer on the other hand requires consistent DPS through autoing, which is very few champions past the ADC class.

Then you add in that her spell-range has been nerfed by 65%, her shield has been made weaker and had its duration cut in half and Celerity had its passive removed and CD almost doubled. Sona has seen so many blatant nerfs, she's just not playable anymore.

Cindikle1 votes

You're underestimating the power of AA's. Even as a mage, if your AA isn't a bad animation and you're not using it in a fight you're doing it wrong. Swain/Karthus for example should avoid AAing. Not only that their AA animations are bad, but that they should be moving a lot for their AoE's.

Not every champion can make the most of it. That's understandable. But this 25% AS also helps when taking towers, dragons and barons. This game is about objectives after all.

You say she's unplayable, but she has a 52% win rate. I'm not saying that makes her balanced or strong. But it for sure means she's playable. She's also only slightly under the average in terms of games played on average. You should see a champion once every 9 games in a perfect world. You'll see her every 8. So she's not underplayed. She's just not popular. If one of the popular supports got heavily nerfed this could easily go over that 9.

Overall her kit got a buff. She just can't sit in the back like she used to and be a buff bot. Riot did not like this playstyle. If you want to see her old power you need to be in the fight. That doesn't mean you can't sit in the back. That option is still there. It's just weaker and it'll be harder for you to make the most of her kit in a fight as you wont be able to take the hits.

Sona's change gave up her ease of play in place of choice and situational power. She was a very uninteresting champion as a whole in terms of playstyle.

The only real argument in terms of power lost is in the AP/AD/Mr/Armor she lost in place of on hit damage and a shield.

Flat stats were provided for the whole duration while the replacement has more limited used. The shield probably evens out in total. But the AP/AD could provide more on the right champions. As well as AD champions would get more from 20AD because they have have LW. But on the other side this means they have more damage types which could break more defenses.

I would still ague that the overall power level is the same. She just takes more understanding to play her.

Pika3103 votes

So much disinformation here, gonna take a while to shed the truth of light on each point. Whelp, here goes:

You're underestimating the power of AA's.

I'm underestimating nothing. When you have only 3 seconds to find the time to spare for an illogical action that nets next to no reward, that Katarina is gonna be more focused on looking for an opening to ult. That squishy Xerath isn't going to risk getting 1-shot by Zed. Fact of the matter: all ability-based champions have been nerfed by these Sona changes. Especially champions that dual-scale both AD and AP.

But this 25% AS also helps when taking towers,

You know what else helped taking towers? Old Sona. She doesn't anymore. Ardent Censer isn't one of Sona's abilities, it's an item. I may as well use it on Soraka or Janna and ult while taking a turret. Is that a good idea? Probably not, but fact is Ardent Censer is a non-sequitur that is forcing this off-topic.

You should see a champion once every 9 games in a perfect world.

This logic is based on the assumption that League consists of 90 champions, 90 of which are supports and each team has 10 supports. THESE ARE ALL FALSE. In actuality there are around 12 supports give or take, meaning she should be in every 6th game. The fact that she's only 1 in 8 says her playrate is ~33% lower than theorized.

She just can't sit in the back like she used to and be a buff bot.

No half-decent Sona ever did this. I'm not sure what bronze 5 Sona players you've seen, but fully utilizing her has ALWAYS required being in range of Power Chord. Sona has ALWAYS been an active support that stayed in the fray. Anybody who says otherwise is intentionally propagandizing untruths.

She was a very uninteresting champion as a whole in terms of playstyle.

This is your biased opinion. Every Sona main that played her properly felt how truly interactive her playstyle TRULY was.

The shield probably evens out in total. But the AP/AD could provide more on the right champions. As well as AD champions would get more from 20AD because they have have LW.

Math proves that Sona requires ~700 AP for her current "shield" to even out. The AD/AP provided more on the majority of champions in the entire game including, but not limited to: Mages, AS champs, crit champs, burst champs, high-range champs, mid-range champs, mobile champs, ability-based champs, assassins and dual-scaling champs. Yes old Sona worked better with Void Staff, Last Whisper and Cleaver because it improved your allies' AD and AP, thus both their auto-attacks and all abilities got stronger.

I would still ague that the overall power level is the same.

It's difficult to understand how a champion that has been given around ~20 nerfs can have "overall the same power level." I can only chalk this up to intentionally blinding oneself to mathematical fact and basic common logic.

Again you focus on pointing out champions that don't have good synergy with Sona. She doesn't have to be the perfect choice with every champion. Team comp is an important part of the game. You're also focusing your argument based on poking. When a teamfight breaks out there's a good chance that Zed isn't targeting him, but instead the ADC. And that he's in AA range of something to proc that on hit damage. As well as the bonus form his passive, he's likely looking for a good chance to AA anyway.

Katarina probably wont get the most of that AA on hit. But it's not rare to see her AA between her resets. If you're able to be up next to her, that shield+heal is going to help her more as well.

Doesn't mean it's not a strong item on her. If that's the case though lets rebalance Fizz around him never getting a Lichbane. His Q's damage is actually quite small without it. Sure if you add in his AD it looks better, but he doesn't build pen for that. 25% AS is going to take a tower faster than 20AD/AP.

You're right. I did that backwards. But her % played isn't far behind the average either way you look at it. She's not underplayed. So saying her winrate is high because only those who have specialized in her play her would be incorrect.

Before she never had a reason to get further than AA range. Unless she was on the winning side of a teamfight and wanted to be ready for a slow'd power chord or plant a ward in the bush they were heading to. She was a buff bot that sat in the back. Only moving up to Q+AA for some poke. Minus the occasional flash+R. But that's was as interactive as she got.

If you played old Sona up in the fight, you were putting yourself in danger that wasn't needed. Because most of what she did didn't require you to be that close up.

This is your biased opinion. Every Sona main that played her properly felt how truly interactive her playstyle TRULY was.

Once she got some mana regen she could spend the whole teamfight moving around spamming QWE off cooldown and be just as effective as a seasoned pro. Not saying this is always the case. But that's how uninteractive she was in her playstyle. It brings very little that is interesting to do, or watch.

Your Twitch ADC takes a 3k magic damage burst combo from a mage.

He has the base 30MR and a BV(on cooldown). Thus has 75MR. Void Staff, sorc boots and red runes reduces this to 25.92. This is reduced to 2400 damage. Assuming sona has FQC and Argent, she has 90AP. Her shield will reduce this to 2267.

With old Sona buff. The MR becomes 85. 32.42 after reductions. ADC takes 2272 damage.

With just 2, low AP items, the shield outshines the old buff by 5 damage. More AP will only make this gap larger. Targets with higher MR will get more out of the shield. If the target lives. Since the heal is increased on lower targets, that is will also be more effective than the older version.

And the first damage taken with the shield didn't include the extra bonus from her ult. Which would of been another 30 at max rank.

Only time the 10 MR would shine is if there is enough incoming damage to make it outscale getting the shield every cooldown. Which you'd probably be dead from that much damage anyway.

At 10k damage 32.42 MR deals 7575.76 damage 25.92 MR minus the full shield (plus the 30) deals 7837 damage.

But that target is dead either way.

So lets look at a tank.

We'll say 180 base MR. 100.67 MR minus shield for 4837 damage. 94.17 MR for 5154 damage.

A tank would take roughly 300 less damage less damage.

Don't know where you came up with 700AP.

It's difficult to understand how a champion that has been given around ~20 nerfs can have "overall the same power level." I can only chalk this up to intentionally blinding oneself to mathematical fact and basic common logic.

Because you cannot see a champions full power doesn't mean someone else cannot.

Ezreal used to be considered trash before his rise to power in S2.

Ahri was considered trash before she got played in the LCS with DFG. People thought she was trash because she was OP on release and got nerfed.

Leblanc was sleeper OP after her rework for a long time.

People still think Zyra is a shell of her former self. When very little changed on her. What hurt her place in bot lane was the favoring of tanky all in supports.

It took half a year for people to decide Lucian was even worth playing.

Someone had to start Jungle Panthion/Wukong in S4.

I do agree some of these changes they are doing are quickly becoming pointless. The current one on the PBE doesn't seem needed. Her E isn't very strong earlier in the game.

I'd also like to point out that Nocturne has gotten almost only nerfs since his release, yet somehow finds his way into the LCS every year. A champion getting nerfed doesn't mean the end of that champion. If it doesn't work out, they can always be buffed.

Once again, I feel like Galileo Galilei. Clearly I cannot convince you that the Earth is round, thus I'm going to stop trying.

You cannot. You have yet to actually show me proof.

I proved your 700ap math was wrong.

I proved she's not underplayed and not a low win rate.

She gave up some of her invisible power of her old kit. To be more interactive and have more visible power. As well as flexibility.

She is in a good place. She isn't too favorable in the meta. She's overall balanced(IMO).

Earth's surface is flat. Sol revolves around Earth. Earth is the center of the universe. Anybody who doesn't believe this is a heretic.

No. Bad ideas.

I think the elegant solution is to make her heal a constant and switch the missing health bonus to the shield. (Credit to Emoto) No more of the excuse "she just sits in lane", meanwhile it's a huge buff to her shield.
