Why don't people lane tanks against Assassins?

Why don't people lane tanks against Assassins? Im bronze. be gentle. Seems like for every Kat that makes it through a ban phase you should see a Cho'goth or another sustain tank. Neither would kill each other without a gank. What am I missing? I thought Tanks countered Assassins.

Another reason: Until tanks get some items, they're still fairly squishy and can be poked/all-in'ed effectively by most assassins early game.

A lot of players do. It's part of the reason Cho'gath and Urgot became popular mid laners for a while.

One issue is that many players don't really think about it, don't bother countering their opponent, or don't know how to play the champion/matchup.

Some people do, but you still at least want two carries on your team. On the plus side, however, taking a tank/bruiser (bruisers are a good option as well, since they tend to deal more damage than tanks but are durable enough to not be 100-0'd by assassins) frees up your jungler and/or top laner to take something less tanky (like a bruiser instead of a tank).

A balanced team comp is typically two carries, two durable champions, and the support who can fill the niche the team needs, but there's no rule that says the main damage source has to go lane against the assassin.

So I see nothing wrong with it, as long as you consider team comp.

Probably because tanks don't tend to mid as often as assassins. And even if they did, the assassin would probably switch lanes.

The lanes are really chosen for what can do best in that lane first and foremost. Mid is a place champions can gank from and also has the shortest distance to safety, which benefits fragile champions with long range or mobility.

The best strategy against Cho'gath mid with an assassin is to ignore him and go gank bot. Most mages too. You ain't stopping his farm anyway.

I'm nearly plat, and I do this all the time. It usually upsets the general meta, but if there's a damage/assassin top, it's not really that harmful to the meta.

However, countering is generally champion dependent, not champion type dependent. Cho'Gath can still lose lane to a Katarina.

Cho is already picked mid to go against Zed/LB.

Laning with a tank can be difficult to learn, depending on what you focus your time on in League. Some people who are used to playing squishy champions just have a hard time in that type of matchup. There's a reason Assassins stopped going top after all.

Because few tanks can carry a game, and people in solo queue all seem to think that they personally have to be the carry or their team will drop the ball and fail to put out the DPS while the enemy picks them all apart. They're not even always wrong, but that's why you see solo queue teams like this...

Ekko top, Katarina mid, MasterYi jungle, with Jinx and Nidalee bot. EVERYONE WANTS TO DO TEH DAMAGES.
