Does anyone else dislike Headshot?

It seems convoluted when you look at the numbers, much too easy to access when you look at her in play, and completely separate from any similar attack enhancements in the game.

Compare Headshot to Spinning Axe, Ranger's Focus, Mystic Shot, Fishbones, Bio-Arcane Barrage, Lightslinger, Love Tap, Spray and Pray, Harrier, or Kindred's Mark (no seriously, do it).

None of them have such a high intricacy with Critical Strike Chance. They all just enhance your damage through basic attacks in their own unique ways, usually based on Attack Damage or Attack Speed. Sometimes they only synergize with one or the other. Jinx and Lucian are the only ones slightly affected by Crits.

Now look at Backstab, Bladework, or Whisper. They all give guaranteed Crits, but if you do Critically Strike it just overrides the lower number. They don't stack.

And yet Headshot is something in between guaranteed crit and bonus damage. It's based on Critical Strike Chance and Damage but it isn't a Crit. It synergizes with Attack Speed, with Attack Damage, Crticial Strike Chance and Critical Strike Damage. In short, it does everything those other enhancements do (barring Kog'Maw and Kindred) but better. Why is Caitlyn special in this regard? What deficiency does she have in her kit that permits her this hyper synergy with Critical Strike Chance? What is so special about her identity that she has to have this?

Draven is a performer. He wants to be flashy. Doesn't that fit thematically to Critical Strike Chance? And yet his Spinning Axe doesn't get this special treatment.

Jinx is crazy. She wants to destroy things with big explosions. Why doesn't Fishbones get bigger explosions when she crits?

The two champions who do have such a special relationship with Critical Strike Chance are Jhin and Graves, but that's only because they have a completely different attack pattern than traditional Marksmen. (And then there's Ashe, but she's 'k.)

The only other exception to this rule is Vayne. Her Tumble has bonus damage on hit, but that damage is affected by crits for some godforsaken reason.

So why not just give Caitlyn one of these two options, a guaranteed crit or bonus damage? It would still be a strong passive, she would still buy Critical Strike Chance (she's a Marksman, she doesn't have free will) but she wouldn't be so efficient (and I mean that in a bad way, in a very bad way).

... alternatively, you could give all other Marksmen the same treatment and it could be an aspect of their class, no matter how disgusting it may be.

Headshot is busted as so is Caitlyn.

No it isn't. Just don't step into her traps or get hut with her E. Simple, really.

Why are we pretending that is the only way she gets headshots again?

Or let her auto anything all game at all, right?

Trap her in spawn behind permanent wind walls in a j4 ult at level 1.

Dont stand in lane either forget engageing stay at the range where she can hit you but you cant hit her.

Having headshot on E is too much. The ability is already an escape that slows and does a bit of damage, on top of a very safe kit. You shouldnt be punished for getting around her range and traps by eating yet another free headshot from E. I get tired of seeing them win trades because of that alone. Headshot, E/Q, headshot again. God forbid you stepped on a trap, and now you are slow to boot, so she will probably hit you with another 1-2 long range autos on top of the 1-2 she hit you with while you were closing the gap to begin with.

Thats where I would start.

Maybe instead of every fourth or whatever it is on her auto, they make it only on her traps and net? Then they could buff he net, and bam, balance. I think they disregard that she does all this with having such a large range.

But then you're making farming and harass a bit harder.

I think that's the point.

Caitlyn is still supposed to be a lane bully.

Spaceman5pff1 votes

wait, lane bully, master of objective control AND good at teamfighting!?

LordGeovanni1 votes

wow makeing the problems harder to do nerfs arent supposed to do that.

LordGeovanni2 votes

her net doesnt need a buff she needs an overall nerf. why are adcs assassins and mages the only classes that automatically get compensation for nerfs on their toxic interactions.

I think that instead of it stacking with crit/the bonus dmg from ie that it should just increase her flat dmg every 6th auto then the crit applies to the auto with the bonus ad on that shot. Would be all around less dmg and when she gets runaans it doesn't feel like you are getting crit'd every 2nd auto

Comparing to different abilities in completely different kits on entirely different champions. Caitlyn doesn't have invisibility, bonus true damage, and an AD steroid like Twitch does. Caitlyn doesn't have an AS steroid and AoE autos like Jinx does. Caitlyn doesn't have an AoE ult with massive damage like MissFortune.

You may as well be asking "Why doesn't Renekton get true damage and bonus AD from attacking? Renekton is a vicious warrior who wants to get in and chop up opponents like Darius. Why doesn't he have it too?"

Draven is a performer. He wants to be flashy. Doesn't that fit thematically to Critical Strike Chance? And yet his Spinning Axe doesn't get this special treatment.

I'd argue that there is merit in comparing different abilities in completely different kits as long is there is a common thread that combines those abilities. In this case it is auto-attack based damage amplification for an auto-attack based role/auto-attack based champions.

By comparing all of those abilities I managed to work out two large groups that are common in this regard: bonus damage on hit and guaranteed crits. It's a bit spotty though, I admit. Fisbones also affects crits, but it isn't as extreme as Tumble as it simply says "deal 10% increased damage". The splash damage isn't something overly unhealthy against only one enemy so I let it slide. Mystic Shot isn't bonus damage on hit but I still put it in that group because it's essentially a basic attack with bonus damage, despite not being able to crit at all. Spray and Pray is more like Final Hour than anything else (that I should probably cut from the list...)

There are larger exceptions to these two groups, but they all have reasons for being exceptions except for Vayne and Caitlyn. And because of that Vayne and Caitlyn should be adjusted to one of the two groups instead.
