When I Have To Create a Custom Game Just To Test Ping...
I realize how easy it would be for Riot to add an in-client ping indicator. After I come to this conclusion, I cry a bit inside.

Then you get in a game and your ping is 5 times higher than what it was in the custom game.
You don't have a ping unless you are connected to the actual game.
Yeah. It would still be useful tho. The menus work and everything but when I try to buy something, I get a dancing Katarina the whole time. No purchase is made and I think ping has to do with that.
actually, you do as ping is a measurement of your connection latency between your modem and riot's server. Riot could easily track the ping between you and the server. The problem is more than likely the subsections of the server riot pays for. If there is damage such as corrosion due to usage, it can be almost impossible to determine when the server itself still diagnoses itself as functional
Well having a constantly updating one would be really a bad idea. You connect to their servers only when you log in, check your info, chat, etc. The rest of the time you are not using bandwidth and not pinging the server. Having a little updater like that would be such a waste of their processing power and bandwidth. Having a little tool that would quickly test your ping, now that might be worth it, although it would take a little time to develop it and make sure it accurately mimics an in game connection (your home client and your in game connection are actually two separate programs launched by each other).
I hope that add it to the new client that they're building
That's not how your ping works.
Riot employs a peer-to-peer connection system that allows you to communicated directly to nearby players in your game before sending the information to one of the server mirrors and back again. The client cannot make use of either of these connections, as it only connects to specific client and matchmaking servers.
For you to know what your ping will be in-game, you would have to know all of the players that will be in your next game ahead of time, and even then your connection is affected by changing bandwidth used by other users in your own ISP connection.
As a general use internet connection test, try speedtest.net
I use Speed Test all the time. It'll say that I have 90 ping and I am experiencing no package loss. Then I'll get in game and have ping in excess of 20000. That's the whole point of having an in-client indicator, to tell me the status of the Chicago server.
lol right? I do the same damn thing
i honestly can't believe there STILL isn't a ping indicator in the game like holy fucking shit
rito puts as little resources into things as possible
that's why we're still using a client on adobe air or whatever the fuck it is lmfao
it's why we don't have replays

Think of how easy it would be for them to fix their game.
Same reason for both. Not enough money in it.
Bookmark this, I use it every day
Yup, and if you make a ping.bat file and type
echo off ping 104.160.131.1 pause
then that will automate the process for you, just double click it and the command line will pop up with your ping.
(echo off hides the command, it's standard, you already use ping, and pause makes sure you can read the output)
run the command prompt from windows, type the following:
ping 104.160.101.1 -t
You're welcome
in client ping tester where you just click the button and it tests your ping. Would be simple to implement and would save a lot of headaches.
As far as personal experience goes, it wouldn't help. My ping tends to spike at completely random times. It can jump up to around 500 ping and stay that way anywhere from 2 to 20 minutes, despite my ping being steady prior.
It began doing this since the big server move, so it can't be a coincidence.
is it me or does everybody take 2 minutes to start a custom game, because of the retrieving data server thing?
Wouldn't they have to have a dedicated server for that then?
If you just want to test out if riots servers are laggy atm, open your cmd and type ping na.leagueoflegends.com
Ugh, that pings the forum/site servers, not the game ones.
i know, but it still help sometimes
I just test my ping in ARAM
Doable, but definitely not easy since it directs you to a specific server (subserver?) with its specific ping depending on your queue.
Truly, HONESTLY. the issue is more likely to be with you than with anything on RITO's end.
It's not, because I've checked. I'll look up my ping, have 90 stable ping with no package loss, then get in game and have spikes of up to 20000. The worst part is that people on BOTH teams will experience the same exact spikes at the same time.
To have it constantly update would be really intensive, because every player would be constantly pinging the server. What they would need is a "What's my ping?" button on the client, to just ping the server once.
you could just do some research and ping their server LOL i love how people always cry about I CANT TEST my PING!!!!!!!!!! Or "you cant test your ping unless youre in a game, ima settle this
Yes you can, and after reading how to do it one time it takes less than 1 minute,
Enter this into your command prompt: ping 104.160.131.1 and the ms listed will be your ping
That is just as much hassle as going into a custom game. The point of this is to avoid jumping through hoops. Also: if it's so simple, then why doesn't Riot do it?
I brought this up a couple months ago. Got pretty much shot down by everyone and I went into more detail too.
I have to test out runes and key bindings by custom game bruh. Its life, deal with it.

No, that would not work. My high ping is almost always on Riot's side of things.
