How come older builds that worked back in season 2-3ish don't work now?

I remember there used to be so many weird builds that actually worked, due to the way things were. ADC Leblanc. ADC Orianna. ADC Annie. And these weren't even troll picks. They legitimately worked. Then you had things like AP Tristana mid, AP Miss Fortune. And a few other things I don't really remember.

I'm just curious. How come these builds don't work as well as they used to anymore? Trist still has AP scaling. As does Miss Fortune. So like, how come they won't work anymore? :o

I did adc annie once.. in season 4 or 5.. I went 6/0

It was a long time ago and it was a sone time thing..

I had my fair share of off-meta

but those days are pretty far gone till I find something really fun.

Items, masteries, and champions all change.

DFG helped a lot of not-meta AP picks get the damage they needed, and that's been gone for a while. My AP Ezreal build is a lot weaker than it use to be because of the removal of the AP from Sheen and the removal of the 15% AP on Auto Attacks Mastery.

MF and Trist both had their AP scalings hit in the Marksman update, exchanging it for things they could use as an AD champion. There was a big stink about it then.

Because of the improvements to the abilities of Marksmen to better synergize with attack speed or AD, anything that's not natively a Marksman will fall behind. That's why there ADC Mages fell out.
