Kassadin was overnerfed. Let's talk about fixing that.
I know this. You know this. Riot (presumably) knows this.
I don't even play Kass often, and this annoys me. I'd rather there be more options for champions than fewer. So I'm going to share what I think could be done to fix him.
-
Make his ult a Blink Dagger. That is, reset the cooldown whenever he takes non-DoT damage from an enemy champion or turret (to 3 seconds, which is the CD at max rank, but still reduce this with CDR). This stops occurring once it comes off cooldown. Also return the range to 750, and lower the mana cost to a triangle number type progression, not doubling (as it used to be, so he can use it more than twice in a row). The big change here is that he has the engage, but can't easily escape if he uses his ult to engage. Which bring us to my second proposed change.
-
Make his q's shield protect the cooldown of his ult - prevent the resetting of Riftwalk's cooldown as long as the shield lasts. Then change his shield to protect against physical damage, so that magic damage can't break it and he's more firmly an anti-mage. Note the shield is only 1.5 seconds, so this doesn't give him immunity to AD champions, but it's fairly significant. Also possibly buff the numbers on the shield.
What would these changes accomplish?
- Kassadin would keep his mobility, unlike all of the changes made to him lately which punish him for actually trying to do anything with his ult.
- Kassadin would once again be an anti-mage, which the loss of his silence made it hard for him to be.
- Kassadin would have clear weaknesses (turrets breaking his shield, ADCs).
- Kassadin's in combat mobility would become a lot riskier, as if his shield goes down he has no escape.
