Corki Base Mana

SirPurrr··60 votes·2,677 views

Corki's level 18 mana is 858 (one of the lowest in the game) yet his Q and W cost 100. What?!

[zombie-nunu-bummed]

I get that we don't want him to spam his Q all day and be oppressive but these costs are super punishing on a champion which isn't supposed to buy a Tear. :D A good way to avoid the oppressive laning situation while still making his mana costs feel more reasonable is to up the level 18 scaling to reach ~1000. This isn't even that unusual. Ezreal has 1075 and still builds a ton of mana. AP champions have even higher bases and often buy mana items as well. Kassadin's mana at 18 is 1537. The way Corki plays is actually a lot like AP champions or Ezreal. He's more a spellcaster than traditional ADC so he needs to have either less punishing mana costs on Q/W or a larger base mana. A larger base mana is the safest way to mitigate these issues.

it's partly because he's balanced with essence reaver in mind.

Gosh Darn7 votes

I don't think he is, and regardless he shouldn't be. He's meant to buy TF so it wastes a lot of stats if you buy both items. Corki isn't very encouraged to just sit there and crit the enemy because he has no steroids or anything. He's meant to poke and weave sheen-empowered AAs in. He has no waveclear without spamming spells, he doesn't buy hurricane, he doesn't have richochet or anything like that. It's very hard for him to get back mana with ER.

The ADC TF was a farce that should have never existed.

Awoof1 votes

Well, too bad it did for years and has always been Corki's core item.

WoonStruck1 votes

It existed for less than a season.

Having the 10% crit it originally had didn't make it an ADC item. It wasn't until they gutted the other stats to give it 20% crit that it was shaped into an ADC focused item.

Awoof3 votes

Ironically more ADCs used Trinity in the past than during it's "ADC version" (which was still used by non-ADCs).

But nonetheless has it always been Corki's core item and sets up an awkward build path for him now.

CeexSett1 votes

Ezreal and Corki used to use it since Season 1.

WoonStruck1 votes

Ezreal didn't consistently use anything in season 1.

People thought he was a trash champion that did nothing well outside of the gimmick AP build until Pulsefire Ezreal was announced and his synergy with sheen items was discovered and recognized by everyone.

Lol, no one really builds ER on him anymore. At least I haven't seen it in either my games or watching the occassional high ELO Corki. Corki's late game is pure shit - much worse than other spellcaster ADCs imo. He still has burst but lacks the DPS and doesn't have a good way to get penetration vs tanks. Considering this, you want to spike mid game and win/get an enormous lead before 35 min. ER is too slow to do that now that TF gives no crit..

Gosh Darn5 votes

Not sure why you're being downvoted, what you said is true. ER has never fit Corki because he has no AS steroid or anything. He doesn't just sit there and AA like other ADCs he pokes with R and weaves like 1-2 AAs in between to proc sheen. ER doesn't restore mana to him quickly enough and the nerfs to TF hurt him very badly. He's in need of pure buffs.

question if i may how does item 3508 not fit Corki he isnt an auto attacker he needs mana and cdr to spam his rockets and q

blkKalameet7 votes

because his core item that let him synergies so well with essence reaver had its crit taken away.

Gosh Darn3 votes

You answered your own question. He isn't an auto attacker. Returning less than 20 mana with each crit, which might be 40% of the time if you go IE+ER, you will never regain enough mana with ER. If abilities could return mana or something with ER it'd be different, but Corki has one of the most contrary kits in the game. He's an ADC that doesn't AA often and that makes all of his builds suboptimal.

Awoof1 votes

I wouldn't say ER has never fit him. Critting on the weaved in attack here and there may not be insane mana restore, but it's mana restore nonetheless (and you can keep your pool stable while farming creeps), and the cdr is a major aspect. (People don't buy it on Ashe primarily for the mana either) It's just really the TF with no crit and overcapping cdr with a full-effect-Reaver. Before, they were synergizing core items, now they go against each other, and every option after TF is kind of meh for Corki now.

Gosh Darn1 votes

Ashe is way better at utilizing the mana return from essence reaver. Hurricane turns 3% into 9% mana return per crit and Ashe AAs a ton. Corki and Ezreal are the only champions that would otherwise benefit from ER aside from the fact that they don't utilize the mana return. Ezreal's Q can't crit and Corki just can't get the mana back.

Corki's mana costs are indeed too high but at least his Dragonwing skin is getting a price reduction next month. :D

And lets not forget that while he's using these 100 mana spells he's constantly spamming ultimate.

Don't worry. If you build item 3078 item 3031 item 3508 first in this order, you'll be fine. As a Corki main myself, this helped me all the way through and boy did they give him some major work. Riot's been buffing Corki in the last few patches, and so far, it's starting to look brighter for him. Just remember, his special delivery involves major teamwork. And I don't think Riot's done buffing him yet. Their could be major changes coming up later on.

something of that nature but people are crying thats not enough if you auto at all and crit at all as corki your mana regen is increased as well.

item 3508 is 70ad 20% crit +10% cdr Gain additional Cooldown Reduction depending on Critical Strike Chance from other sources: 10% critical: +3% CDR 20% critical: +10% CDR 30% critical: +20% CDR. UNIQUE: Critical strikes restore 3% of your maximum Mana pool.

item 3078 is 250 hp +40% attack speed +25ad +5% ms +250 mana +20cdr with passives of UNIQUE – SPELLBLADE: After using an ability, your next basic attack (on-hit) deals 200% base attack damage as bonus physical damage. (1.5 second cooldown) UNIQUE – RAGE: Basic attacks (on-hit) grant +20 flat movement speed for 2 seconds. Killing a Unit grants +60 flat movement speed instead.

you're still talking about 6k gold of items just to sustain mana. that means corki will be lvl 9-11 before he can sustain his own mana or even have a mana pool to sustain.

let me put it this way, corki went from being played in the LCS for the first half of the year, and after the TF changes, disappeared completely from the pro scene. improper itemization is a very real problem for him and it is the reason why he disappeared.

then what else are u gonna spend gold on? its not just maintaining mana its providing other stats as well you are forgetting that. also other items came out to be stronger that corki cant use efficiently so other adcs who could use the items rose above him. item 3508 was designed in the mindset it would be somethign that ad casters would build. maybe they could buff it a bit by adding mana to it so maybe it might be slightly more justified but as far as an item stat wise it does provide alot. and they didnt change the mana on triforce they changed the crit and added more cooldown reduction. so it wasnt any mana change to the item that hurt corki by the triforce change.

and corki has always been a two item ad power spike and was strongest mid game so that being said normally corki would have item 3078 item 3031 or item 3078 item 3072 and about 16-18 mins in he would have a huge power spike around lvl 11 and that is where he shined and late game he would be used to poke out teams so his team could siege. also in pro play majority of the time they picked corki is when they had a mid laner that could be ok with out blue buff and would feed blue buff to corki as much as posible.

That's not the main reason. Corki got nerfed several patches and the one that broke the camel's back for competitive play was the passive nerf from 1.1 (half magic and half physical) on autos to 1.0. Even then, the primary build wasn't with ER early. It was TF-Sorcs-RFC/SS-IE-Maw-Sterak's-BT/GA/VS. ER is a huge gold investment and Corki wants to spike hard and fast ASAP since he's not a champion which can bank on the late game. ER is in many ways a scaling item. He also needs some tankiness to deal with burst mages and be able to use his package without suiciding.

The passive nerf for Corki was huge and completely unneeded. He wasn't an actual objective problem at that point and was mostly picked in LCS still due to inertia. His performance wasn't even good. His SQ winrate also went under 50% for both mid and ADC. It was a stupid reactive move and idk how they ever let it get through. Going from 1.1 to 1.0 doesn't seem enormous at first but consider that this isn't just some random long CD spell and even those changes sometimes have big impacts. This is a sizeable amount of damage LOST ON EVERY AA. Corki doesn't AA as much as other ADCs but he'll still do it about 1 time per second so if you had a spell with 50% scaling applied every 5 seconds, it would be like losing all 50% of its scaling. Worst of all, Corki already fell off late game and had trouble itemizing penetration effectively due to the split damage. He needed extra damage on autos to make up for it a bit later on.

BTW: Corki mid wasn't as strong as people thought he was even pre-nerfs. People, and yes, even pros, dealt with him poorly because ADC mids weren't common. He has many weaknesses mid despite being a decent laner. First of all, his waveclear isn't as good as something like Anivia and he also doesn't have the range of a champion like Vel'Koz. Moreover, he has LITERALLY 0 CC. This is the main weakness and people see some solo kills mid due to Corki's better damage early-mid game and ignore this glaring isssue. Yes, it won't affect his laning or 1v1 much but it's the reason you saw many teams fail to convert a Corki advantage to a win.

Oh, ok. I thought gaining additional CDR from other sources meant sources other than item 3508 . 20% crit even with 40% attack speed, though... I dunno about that.

You can build anything you want on Corki but I doubt ER is even viable on him at a high level. It's completely absent on probuilds even though it used to be common 6 months ago. Although, I guess Corki a a whole isn't very viable in Master+ right now.

Still, his autoattacks deal a lot more damage than those of typical mages. So you can't really compare them. Corki doesn't rely solely on spells to deal damage, mages do.

Orianna Viktor Kayle TwistedFate Ziggs Kennen all of these Ap's have empowered auto attacks and are encouraged to trade with them as additional sources of damage.

Corki is just traditionally built using AD as before it was viable to use item 3078 when it had critical strike%. It is not because he scales extremely well with AD, and as it has been said before, he is more of a spellcaster than an AD. The only thing marksman or AD about his kit is his passive.

The rest is all magic damage, repositioning, hybrid penetration shred, and poke. Kayle also does a similar thing like this but she is considered a mage or hypercarry, but instead of excelling at beingan ad, a mage or hypercarry, Corki lacks an identity that I would like to see more defined.

Corki identity is the is an ad caster who does magic damage. his auto do magic damage. all but one ability does magic damage. and even without crit on item 3078 after he cast an ability his next auto would still do bonus damage from item 3078 but as far as his identity he is a ad caster who does massive magic damage nearly 65% of his damage is magic that is why its completely viable to build item 3020 item 3135 on him.

BushidoBlade1 votes

Except that item 3078 no longer scales with Bonus AD, which is why literally every ADC that it was viable on before, it has become practically useless on and only a bruiser item now. I mean, you can still build item 3078 item 3053 for a little extra damage but at the cost of severely nerfed damage as compared to the previous iteration of item 3078 that scaled with Bonus AD.

edit: for this reason, I would argue that Corki is more of a mage than anything, since his core item was changed.

TF never scaled with bonus AD...lol

They gutted the attack speed, lowered its bonus AD, and raised crit.

Not only that, but the ADCs in question were all nerfed for their trinity interactions.

Seriously, it never, ever, EVER scaled with bonus AD in any way, shape, or form.

Where are you getting your information?

The only itemization interaction that was changed on Corki relative to TF was his passive not multiplying the true damage (in his previous iteration) when it came to sheen and crits.

It has attack speed. Which scales with bonus AD as well. Hell, even CDR scales with bonus AD, as long as the champion's abilities scale with it.

Yeah the mana cost on his W is way too high since they nerfed the range dramatically in the preseason. It needed to be high before when it was as long as Trist W, but now it can barely go over jungle walls.

Jeanne fan club1 votes

His current meta build involves a tri force. Tri force has always been a meta item for him so it makes sense to balance him around that item. Also, since essence reaver was introduced, Riot have to keep in mind how oppressive he could be once he finishes those 2 items, however, essence reaver never really made it into the meta build for him. Then again, triforce into essence could be one of the most broken builds in the game for him but no one would know because barely anyone plays him.
