It's based on play rates in the last patch. Also note that Zoe didn't show up in any of them in her first patch out. Same reason.

I don't really see how it's sad. She didn't exist in the previous patch, so she didn't have a play rate and therefore wouldn't be shown in any of the play rate based groups.

Because the OP is simply a question. The game tells you that the selection is based off play rate.

If the OP is trying to imply Zyra mid is weak he should've said that instead.

Zoe's play rate is low due to her ban rate.

Every champion shows up in at least one role. Zoe was an exception because she had literally no data from before her release (and riot probably fixed that in the code by now so the next champ release shouldn't have that problem)

Because if you look up champ playrates on na.op.gg (which is KR server), there's not enough data for them to record statistics about Volibear. He might be played more in NA, but I'm guessing not that much more.

Same for Tahm. Riot might have claimed he was intended for toplane, but with the most powerful "save my ally" skill in the game and an ult that can reposition himself and someone else at the same time, IDK why they thought he wasn't a support.

By CertainlyT's own admission, Thresh was never designed to be a support. He was designed to be an everything (see: Kayle). Because he had good utility (and everything else at the time), Riot decided to call him their annual support (back when that was a thing).

I'm not sure that the new system is even what it's labeled. I suspect they aren't dynamic lists of champions, rather they're just champions who made the list for riot.

That said, i don't think that the old system was good either. Categorizing champions as these conceptual categories of "Marksman", "Assassin", "Fighter", "Skirmisher", "Diver", exc... what ever the fuck was the difference between those last 3 (still trying to work that out)... is pretty much why we got the god awful class reworks. Riot thought that they could get away with lumping a whole bunch of unique champions into idealistic descriptions, the accuracy of which was... qestionable at the best of times.

Old categories were Fighter, Tank, Mage, Assassin, Support, and Marksman.

For what it's worth, you can set personal picks as favorites for roles they aren't already in. I have Poppy favorited for tank and support, and Lulu top.

Sure, but Skirmisher was under assassin, while diver was under fighter, despite them basically reading as identical roles.

Divers were higher damage, less tanky fighters, while skirmishers were low damage more durable assassins... which is ironic considering that the AD assassins were generally considered fighter/mages before "assassin" was an official class.

But, as you said, you do have personal picks, but that's a completely separate tool.

I might be wrong, but I think it uses statistical data based on where a champion is played most often (there is some minimum percentage to be listed as under a lane; this means that of the games where Vayne was played, enough of a percentage was in top lane so she shows up in the list).

Zyra still is basically never mid, while Vayne is (incredibly stupidly) played top. (Incredibly stupidly because she's horrible against every toplane champion that's not Darius. Seriously. Don't bring her top, otherwise you're just shy of inting).

You might as well wonder why Alistar isn't marked as an ADC.
