Anyone else dying more than past seasons?

I'm not talking about when you're ahead. I'm talking about when you make one mistake in lane, die, and are now behind.

It feels like ANY attempt at making a play results in a negative outcome. Hell, I've even sat back and froze my lane with the intention on farming to "catch up". Welp then my mid laner roams. So I either push to tower while my bot / top gets smoked, or I follow my laner and get exploded (at least that's what it feels like.) Is there a "play from behind" strategy anymore? I mean damn, I've never had so many deaths before in past seasons. "Playing safe" doesn't even seem to do anything because now my laner just farms / roams and maintains a lead. Ridiculous.

It's my view point than Riot has adjusted damage to be more punishing yes.

  1. Lethality being strong means Assassin (who excel primarily at kill and transitioning that into more kills) are doing well.
  2. Changes to tower firstblood and other things (will not get into them all to keep it short) makes game more snowbally, which means you could potentially get more kills.
  3. There has been a movement away from things like "AFK farm lanes" across the board and "kill lanes" in bottom. To explain further, basically anything without any early game kill pressure has been viewed as pretty weak, so anything people actually play has some ok early-mid damage, including tanks and control mages, and scaling adc's. Before a kill lane bottom meant you pair up like a Leona, Blitz, or Naut with something like Corki or Lucian, or old school Graves. Now their kills pressure out of bottom lane is much weaker after nerfs, so in order to remain viable stuff like Jhin, Ashe, and MF now do so much damage they can kill you from far away if they get ahead.

My average deaths on my one trick Swain over the last 4 seasons

Season 4 - 4.1 Season 5 - 3.9 Season 6 - 3.1 Season 7 - 4.4 Season 8 - 5.6

Death is definitely more common now and this is in D4 where mistakes are made a lot less. Just seems like the game punishes you much harder for making one mistake

I was at the start of the preseason, but things have evened back out.

What sort of champions do you play? That could have something to do with it, because many champions that used to be rather safe picks just melt to the current levels of damage we have.
