Can anything be done about smurfing?

I'm seeing so many smurfs come into these matches and straight stomp the game. ITS NO FUN OR FAIR TO THE REST OF US. How do I know they're smurfs? Well I'm in plat and when I get a "silver" player with a 70 plus win percentage who stomps the match, yeah that's pretty fucking smurf like to me. Like seriously, it's ruining what shred of fun I have left in the game. Will anything ever be done about it or does Riot not give a shit like with everything else?

Smurfs 100% Ruin the Ranked system.

Smurfs are toxic.

THERE IS NO REASON TO MAKE A NEW ACCOUNT ON LOL. You can play what you want in just one account is not like a mmorpg.

Eloboost are toxic.

THERE IS NO REASON TO PAY SOMEONE TO UP YOUR ELO. You will play against better players and will make your team lose (not in a fair way) they will get stressed and you as well.

Riot should start telling all streamers " No more smurfs, No more "Unranked - Master" streams".

That wouldn't solve all league problems but would make less toxic for sure.

According to everyone, no. I've raised several suggestions and all have been met with fierce resistance and chiding. Long story short, the best method I can picture is through a system akin to DRM, which the boards lit me on fire for suggesting. It'll probably happen again, just as soon as someone sees this reply.

I kind of understand where your frustration is coming from, but at the same time, you do need to realize that some people smurf for a reason. If I'm looking to learn how to, lets say Jungle, and see what my peak rank is, I'm sure as hell not going to pick jungle for the first time in Diamond elo, against people who have climbed through that role. I'll level an account, playing jungle only, and buy the respective champions I'm looking into playing.

That's the best way for improvement, without losing MMR. Now, you do have the other kinds of smurfs (Unranked - Master, playing their OTP) wich... really is kinda toxic & cancerous, and disgusting, but, life goes on... :)

If they couldn't smurf, how else would some youtubers be able to get multiple accounts into challenger or do an unranked to diamond with ADC Ahri series?

Easiest solution is: Make the game fun again. Why should I bother playing on my main games that are coinflip af because of bad balancing and bad matchmaking when I just can play on a smurf and destroy people to have fun?

I rl don't get smurfing. Are people this insecure and keep playing with low elo players to feel better? Smurfs fucking suck, if they're in the enemy team they ruin your game and If they're in mine they still ruin it by going 1v5 and getting me an unsatisfying victory and some annoying trash Smurfs even troll. I had a game recently against a turbo smurf trynda who was o er 20 kills and 17 lvl while we were all 13 and in the end we came back and I loved seeing him bitching.

there more smurfs than ever this season due to the messed up mmr system/LP gain.

ask any of your diamond friends "hey in plat 1 compared to dia 4, how much lp did you get?"

most will say something like 20+ lp in plat1 and suddenly like 11 or 12 in dia 4. its frustrating. so well they smurf on a new account and (like i used to do) dodge champ selects so they dont climb.

Honestly, the game is so un-enjoyable to play at high elo. I basically only smurf this season, I've got 3 accounts into mid plat, then I just lose all hope in improving at the game. The game quality is so low.It wasn't always like this but this season has been pretty bad, It's actually much more enjoyable playing the game in silver and gold than mid plat - diamond.

There really is only 1 thing that can be done about smurfs: make sure they move up to their real tier as quickly as possible. With the current system that is impossible. It takes forever to climb through 1 division. If the system was more fluid and responsive to raising MMR, we could eliminate smurfs much faster.

I still don't understand what's wrong with a simple, visible and open MMR scale which you climb up or fall down after every game, and the tiers being % based. Sounds so simple and practical, and I don't see any downsides of it.

Smurfing isn't the problem. Matchmaking, placements, and LP gains/losses, or forced winrates are. Any of these could be the cause, or a combination. In any case, its Riot's fault, not the smurfs.

Placements don't distribute close enough to the determined MMR, the determined MMR does not closely match with the player, it takes too long to reach 'true elo', etc.

In any decent matchmaking system, smurfs do not significantly impact a very large portion of the playerbase. Riot's system is no longer a decent matchmaking system. It 'pads' your climb over a longer period, mostly targeted at high silver, in order to keep people playing for more total time, incentivizing skins and such.

Lowkey: Riot already knows which accounts are yours.

It's not a secret. If you deal with Riot CS about any issue where it comes up, they have no qualms about letting you know which other account of yours is involved.

They have many tools at their disposal providing this information incidentally: ip address, cookies, billing information etc...

Telephone numbers from mobile and Clash...

It's done already.

Honestly I don't think smurfs should be bannable, but players who are toxic or play above their level need to be aggressively dealt with. I know there's a "smurf queue" that exists but its absolutely trash, new players who try to play solo still deal with a majority of smurfs rather than a majority of new players. It doesn't work at all. That and people who get a perma for being toxic, inting, ect just get to make a new account unpunished and there isn't much effort to deal with them.

Frankly, if you're in the new player experience all penalties should be harsher. If you're a new player and you are flaming frame 1 you should be aggressively punished since that shouldn't be the promoted attitude in the game. Same as if you're a perma'd player who can't show any restraint. New accounts are disposable so Riot shouldn't even hesitate to ban at that range, its crucial to make sure there's an environment where inexperienced players can learn without getting stomped on and flamed.

I left a very detailed suggestion on how riot may correct this issue, however they took down my thread.
