how i got from bronze iv to plat Iv in a single season.

##a little of introduction:

Hi there, my name is rawiazam1 and i'm currently a plat4 player in the eune server. I've been playing for about 2.5 seasons, where i finished season 6 at bronze(no idea which tier), season 7 at silver v, and my goal to this season is high plat/ low diamond. i got promoted to bronze iv at the beggining of the season and i was hard stuck silver/gold5 for the majoraty of the 2 seasons(around a year! and 800 games): https://i.imgur.com/Gg0O2td.png note:this isn't an accurate graph since i didn't update my online profile when i was silver.

however, when i started working on myself i started going up ranks with ease, and turned from the worst 5% of the players, which i was considered dumpster to the top 8%. while higher ranked player may look at this like "meh". But to me, it's a huge achievment. So i figured that i'll try to help you climb and tell you how i did it. especially, this part, where is started going up ranks really fast: https://i.imgur.com/2LL63QJ.png

##What i changed:

##1. Mentality: This was probably the hardest and the most rewarding change i have made, i turned form a mentality of: "fuck riot and thier shitty matchmaking"(you can see it in my oldest posts) to "riot is cool, the only thing holding me back is me". This allowed me to focus more on myself and less on others/ranting on riot, which in turn made me better in league and a less toxic player. For all those who are sturggling with this part, i suggest you spectate your own games, look how you could've done things better and see how in "those" games, you could've carried and won. The matchmaking has nothing against you, most probably, even your enemy has shitty players. I remember in silver/bronze where everyone was flaming everyone, in those cases, just mute them all and focus on your play.

##2. champion pool: instead of trying to be better at everything, try to limit your champion pool to 2-5 champs that you like to play. this is good because when you master those champions, in order to get better, you have to be flexible and learn how to play against certain comps/champs, and also increase your shotcalling abilities. that's why one trick ponies tend to have easier time transitioning to other champs.

##3. roles: this one is pretty straighforward, some roles can carry more than others. a good support will never have the same carry potential of a good jungler, even if thier skills are the same. There's no shame of that, heres what i think are the roles that can carry the most: jungle>mid>adc>top>support. i was a top laner then i transitioned into a jungle main in order to have an easier time carrying, AND IT WORKED! edit: alot of people seem to miss what i ment cause of poor wording. I'll try to explain it better: what i mean is that a good support can't carry as much games as a good jungler single handedly. Since support gives most lane gold to the adc, if u have a bad adc. you can't really carry the game. but a jungler that gets shutdown gold left and right will have much more easier time carrying

##4. map awarness & predictions: maybe one of the most important aspects is to know what's going to happen next, knowing when you're about to get ganked is not enough. you need to track the enemy junglers, be able to make predictions about when & where a fight is going to break form minimap cues, which is very helpfull in order to countergank/ turn a fight if you're a jungler/ and champ with a global ult. in order to get better at this, i recommend watching some videos/streams of people playing games and trying to focus on the minimap instead of the game and try to make predictions. When trying to apply this on your games, you'll have to activley think of it at first, but then i'll becone a natural.

##5. shotcalling: this is by far the most important thing. it focuses on what you should do with a given information, and is probably the hardest to get better at. my best tip is: with combination of (2), try to think what you could have done better after every death AND every won teamfight/fight; maybe you could've taken less damage, got a double instead of a single kill. instead of living and getting a kill, dying but getting 3. a turret or a friend?. there are alot of things you can think of that you coud've done better at. try to analyze your plays when you're getting back to base/ waiting to respawn.

##6. translating a lead into objectives: everyone who says objectives > kills is obviously wrong, since i rarely see a team win when they have less kills. but the most important thing, is if you got a lead in a form of kill/drake/baron. you need to know how to transition this lead into objectives. which is the most importaint thing. if you get to decide between 2 kills or 2 turrets, go for the 2 turrets since they give more gold to you and to your team. that's why kills

funny how once u get out of silver climbing though gold is easy XD

i have seen that so many times and hear that so many places and hard of so many people who are plat nd cant even get out of silver on thier alt account.

its DOABLE for sure.. but its not worth the stress IMO.

i don't need to show my skill level, i do that in-game.

Disembark3 votes

I don’t think that’s true. I’ve never had trouble climbing out of Silver. Even though I’m offroling. I don’t think I could climb using support in Silver.

for me it took me 3 days to go from silver 4 to gold promos and that was 24 games. but on another account gold 3-4 is the hardest for me.

Not trying to be a dick, but mostly everyone right now can make it to plat elo. I just had a friend on my other account 2 weeks ago telling me how he was bronze 1 two weeks before i met him and is now plat 3. Most games nowadays are RNG based, doesnt really matter how good you are as a player. In other words. if you keep playing, then youre going to rank up or down depending on RNG. Also if you play something busted/meta like Jungle role with Graves/Eve/Kayn, ADC Kai/Jhin, Top Irelia, Mid Akali, then im positive youll rank up easily. My friend was stuck in plat 3 all season last year as a vayne adc one trick. This season he picks up graves jungle, first 2 months of the season he gets to diamond 3. He never played jungle before either.

Congrats on plat tho.

this the exactly the issue though.

picking the broken champs will et u climb easier and faster and without lacaully improving and earning that skill level.

where as if u spend the time to learn and imporve and get very good at a champion...

despite the fact that you can still beat most people with said champion... u cant influence the game. like you can with a broken OP "meta" champion.

if a bronze 4 player can climb to gold with someone like Graves but still has no game knowledge and plays like a bronze 4.

he doesn't deserve gold. and if said champion he plays ever gets adressed he has to hop onto the next "op meta champion" to try to not get demoted.

were as if a player can have plat level game knowledge but based on RNG they cant climb becuase they are given new players who players who only got to silver by playing the broken OP champions. and who actaully have no game knowledge.

and u know when those champs are banned... then their still shitty bronze players.

and this is coming from a person who really only actively plays 5 or so champs. but the difference is.. i love those champs.. and i play them REGARDLESS of their state.

Nidalee is the reason i started playing league, whe she lost laning ability in season 5 i STOPPED playing league for 8 months in protest

in season 6 i came back because of the challenger Nidalee skin.

and to this day.. the only reason i STILL play league. is because of Nidalee .

i like other champs sure. i also play Lux ,Morgana, Warwick and Blitzcrank

and i also used to play Syndra Orianna Ziggs

but the fact is none of them will keep my playing if i cant play Nidalee

my text message alerts are her VO lines. i have her VA's autograph i got from my sister as my boards + avatar. (because she was apparently my sister's high school friend's mom)

Last season I went from Bronze 1 to Plat.

I’m a support main - but I don’t recommend it it below a certain rank. I used Vladimir mid to get Gold, then transitioned to ADC then into support.

I did everything you said on my other account and got it out of silver to plat but heres the thing..

Once you get to platinum the matchmaking is really against you, I know this because I played everyday for hours/many games to see the patterns. No matter what you do in plat the matchmaking will punish you for winning a couple of games.

Other than that if you are a bronze or a silver player try this guide (I did this 6 months ago on my other account if your curious OH and I didn't just play for 2 hours I played 7-8 houts most of the time)

BigFBear3 votes

Lmao... He actually said "stop blaming matchmaking" And the first thing you do is blaming matchmaking :D

You dont get it dude. Matchmaking is fine. Maybe in D1+ it's unbalanced but definitely not in Plat, rofl.

3TWarrior2 votes

well, if plat really is in the top 8% of the playerbase then theoretically queue times should be 12.5 times as long as the worst of the playerbase

if this is true, then the gaps are being filled in somewhere which can cause problems

Starcraft243ver2 votes

Can you think at least for a few seconds before writting ?

You are implying that the top 8% players can all be mixed and matched together while the other 92% players are in another pool where they can be all matched together (like bronze vs gold, or plat vs challenger).

If you want to compare the theorical queue time you'd better look at the number of games played by elo.

3TWarrior1 votes

well, currently, we have no real idea how it works

it's supposed to be based upon skill, but the matchmaking can vary wildly to the point where players know that things are going to go badly

almost every game in existence that uses a ranked system goes by a tier system and not by a skill system. for instance, golds should be with golds, unranked with unranked, etc

BigFBear1 votes

There is a (tier)system in ranked and it's "hidden MMR". But it's not so hidden because you can see it on sitels like op.gg. I don't know what your problem is. If you lose your MMR goes down if you win your MMR goes up. The tier system in other games is also connected to skill because you can reach higher tiers only with higher skill. WoW for example works like LoL with MMR and hidden MMR.

Starcraft243ver1 votes

Every single game with a matchmaking system works with MMR. (Elo in chess)

You can be gold yet have a challenger mmr. Because Elo is a 0 sum system while tier system is not.

If you loses your promo games on purpose by leaving the lobby before the game start you did not lose any mmr (because leaving a lobby doesnt say anything about your "skill"), but you will lose some tier progression.

That's why elo and tiers are not hard connected, they are softconnected, the system always tries to adjust your tier to your elo by giving you more or less lps for each win/lose, but to match you with and against players the only value which matters is elo.

Objectives > kills is a splitpusher mentality. I heavily promote that line of thinking to other Yorick mains like me.

Of course this line of thinking still involves killing when necessary, it’s just suggesting to not gun for kills and rather bide your time until they open their gates for you (which they always do).

Chill, the dude went from zero to hero, no matter how he did it, he still did it. Why are people so hateful on such a wholesome post ?

Because the whole process of climbing lost its meaning. Ranked games became RNG team deathmatches, Silver players suddenly turn high Plat because they abuse clearly overtuned shit like Graves, Irelia, Lucian or Jax.

I am not trying to discourage the guy or ruin his good mood, but there are so many exploitable flaws to the game right now that you can use to increase your chances at the gamble it became drastically that your rank hardly means anything anymore.

"How i got from bronze to plat in one season"

Season 8 balance in a nutshell. Many pros don't even know what the fuck is going on this season anymore with balance and then others can just play brainless shit because of the burst meta like with stormrazor or some broken champions like Irelia or Akali.

On this part my only question is did you play a lot of meta champs or mostly just personal favorites? For example I would argue if you mained Elise and Nid, it would be way harder to climb then say Kayn and Rengar or Graves and Kha.

All of these are fair points but I still have couple questions. Firstly, how do I make my team go for objectives, or use the objectives? plenty of times it happens that we took down their team and instead of going for baron or turrets my team-mates go farm in lane or jungle so nothing happens or how to make my team go for a fight that we can win (and after that take baron and win the game or just win the game) when they just don't want to follow up on my initiation?

several times it happened that I go in and my team runs away, I die and then the other team takes baron and beats us I play mid and top in ranked

try to ping them, i usually do a single normal ping on my team then ping the thing that i want to push(a turret for example). if it didn't work, just solo push untill the enemy spawns, don't focus too much on your team. once you get to higher devisions. the team will know what to do much better

Clapper of Asses1 votes

Personally I don't agree with you thinking support is the lowest carrying role. When you play support, you have control of around 3 lanes on your team sometimes even reaching 4. To start with if you play play-making supps, so not soraka and other shield spammers, you decide when your adc goes in. Unless your adc is tristana cause they always jump in at the worst possible moment, so that two roles you have complete domain over. Then lets say you get some early kills and get boots pretty early, guess who is gonna keep roaming mid to help? that right your trusty supp :), thats 3 roles you can influences. Now this doesn't happen very often and now that banner of command is gone and zz'rot is kinda poop to rush, you use to be able if you were very ahead to get a banner or zz earlyish and send it top. You have no idea how many times i saved my top laner from getting completely out pushed by heimer, signed, or yorick, or i help them push to get 2nd tower extending my influences to basically the entire map. So you can hard carry as a support, just not in the traditional sense of getting fed yourself. Usually if you have one competent teammate, you have a good chance of making them unstoppable.

Edit: I didn't read the "edit" under the role thing so, my argument is pointless my bad. BUT SUPPORTS CAN CARRY XD

EyesOfTheFox1 votes
  1. Don't die (or don't put yourself in a position in which you know death will probably come, even if you still kill that one champ, your death hurts the team).
  2. Don't chase kills (but they're so low, just, don't....no....what did I say...now you're dead...).
  3. Keep your minion waves pushed to at least the river (more relevant after laning, most people at low elo ignore this and chase kills leaving the enemy minions to wreck towers and keep map control in enemy favor).
  4. Don't fight in an enemy minion wave unless you have a numbers advantage (enemy minions will f*** you up more than you think).
  5. Don't try to 1 v 3 cause you think you are "strong" just to get blown up (I see a lot of Jax players do this, I lose nearly every game with a Jax player because of this, is this a Jax thing, as most of them also immediately flame the team because you know that mid laner pressed that Jax's buttons and made him make that poor decision).

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. 99% of people just play support wrong. I'd definitely put support carrying over top/adc as a support (not talking lulu/janna/soraka, im talking more bard/blitz/thresh/rakan) you can curb stomp 2 people, where as other solo lanes it's only one person. you can also gank mid/top(which you are supposed to be doing, contrary to popular belief) this tilts mid, especially top since a support is fucking them over. you can ward the enemy jungle way more than anyone else on your team can, (again most supports only ward tribush/river cause they're bad) in my games as support I 80% of the time have more kills + assists than my jungler.

supports have all the power over bot lane early, they can roam mid, roam top, ward enemy jungle, they're a secondary jungler when played correctly I play zac support, rush mobi's , roam bot/mid and communicate with my jungler, it tilts the fuck out of their mid

I have p much everything and im climbing fat (if i played more anyway) bc i know that i can carry in silver and gold, im just shit if i cant. A lot of my friends seem to think its Riots fault, wierd huh

LetMeCarry19831 votes

Bro....I've heard all that before and tried all of it. I'm still super hard stuck Silver 5. The only real way to climb is to hard carry every single game which some people are skilled enough to do but most of us can never be that good. It took me trying for 2 years to get to Gold to realize that. Hell I'm still trying today and still can get any closer. Right now as of this post, I'm close to being demoted to Bronze. And I've already played well over 1400 ranked games which is far far more than the average player.

I appreciate what you're trying to do but that shit won't work. There's no shortcut to raw skill which is the ONLY thing that will enable one to climb. You gotta be that monster that goes 5-0 in lane every game and takes every tower and all the kills. If I can't figure out how to do that most of my games and hard carry, I will never be able to get out of Silver. This season will probably be my last season trying. If after 2000 plus ranked games across 2 seasons I haven't climbed higher than Silver, I don't think I can ever figure it out, I think it's near time to accept that and call it quits. I think most people should be encouraged to think like this. Otherwise, you just waste time trying for something that's just not in your capability like I did.

To be clear, I'm not saying there is elo hell or it's my team's fault or any of that. I'm saying that most of us underestimate the sheer amount of skill it takes to climb League's ladder. Skill is something that requires an investment of time and that would be a massive investment of time if you're aiming for Gold, Plat, Diamond etc. And time is only one factor. Another factor is natural talent. Most of us don't really have what it takes, myself especially. As a programmer, I've always taken pride in always being able to solve difficult problems no matter how insurmountable it seems. I've invested the time and I have a natural talent for it. But as far as League goes, I couldn't solve that. I just don't have the talent for it, even though I had the time. Nothing wrong with that. I suspect most hardstuck people are like that.

TLDR; Take joy in something you're good at. Most of us suck hard at this game and always will no matter what. This is natural. We all can't be good at the same things.
