How do you fight cho gath?

Cho gath seems like the ultimate counter to any melee top laner. His e makes getting close to him a death wish early game from how well it zones you, and that makes farming nearly impossible, so you are behind practically all game. His passive gives him WAY to much sustain, so even if you have a trade where you get ahead, unless you pressure hard he will just get his hp back from farming. His knockup is the least bullshit of all his abilities considering it doesn't go off instantly and is relatively easy to dodge. Still, if you have an escape as a melee top laner and he silences you, it makes his knockup way easier to get off unless you have heightened movement speed. His ult just makes him tanky and does a ridiculous amount of damage; and if you are melee, he can ult you as you try and go in. Even if it doesn't kill you, it still takes off a huge chunk of hp, and from there he can silence, basic or knockup.

I just want to know how to counter him. Actually, not even counter, just some possibility at beating him. So far, the only solution I have found is to play a ranged champion like Quinn or Kennen.

For the record, this isn't a vent post, I really have no idea how to beat this, and I still haven't been able to figure it out through months of playing. I don't care if I am called bad, I just want a way to beat this champion.

He's super immobile.

Like, not even kidding, if he's pushed he's screwed the moment someone so much as decides to gank.

MS QUints and or boots. If he doesn't land Q he can't catch you. Also you should not stand behind your minions but besides them when he auto attacks.

Cho'Gath can't dodge Orianna.

S3cond he uses a skill before 6, I kill him or get him low enough for me to zone him. Afterwords, I just wait til he ults a minion or something then I go in. Build hexdrinker if getting annoyed by his damage and they either have an ap mid or jungle.

im going to say this there really is not 1v1 counter for him and in team fights his skill set is extremely op he needs a complete rework and honestly need to be temporally disable tell they do it he can literally just stack ROA and have more hp then any tank and hit just as hard as 90% of the squishy mages. Not counting his 2 aoe CC's that in a team fight half heath or instant kill all the low health people he simply need his stacking hp taken away or not allow it to stack on minion kills its far to easy to stack up with way to high of a benefit. But his stacking hp is what makes him cho so i feel like that shoudnt go away completely instead hes cc' should be nerfed and his dmg should be nerfed its to high for the amount of survivability he has. I have had many games played as him were i was shut down hard early but its so easy to get hp stacks back and even being down 5 deaths it didn't slow me down in the slightest.

Hmm, as a Lane Bully with Sustain, Cho'Gath can be quite difficult to deal with. I highly recommend an early Spectre's Cowl, I also recommend being aware of his Cooldowns. Rupture, if I'm recalling correctly, has a flat 8 second cd? Bait out the Rupture, try to tempt him to use it in situations you know you can escape its AoE in, then engaging. To keep him from proccing his E often, Orbwalk, StutterStep, the old Animation Cancel, all techniques that will benefit you greatly. As he builds Frozen Heart and Rod of Ages fairly commonly, a Brutalizer into Bork would also help here, picking up a last whisper later in the game. Again, depends on your hero. I'm assuming you're playing Quinn here. His Zoning is good, but he does have vulnerable moments that help balance him out. Don't be afraid to lost a few CS to save hp. Don't worry about it, grab the ones you can, endure the laning phase, and try to push him out of lane by hard engaging when he has no spells up. Tenacity helps greatly, as does movement speed.

Hmm, I'd probably choose a champion who can reliably kill him early in the game or who can scale very well and survive/farm even through his harass. I'd also recommend against choosing champions who are greatly affected by his silence or squishy champions without sustain. Mixed damage, percent health damage, and/or mobility are very useful traits, as is sustained damage.

Hmm, some champions I'd recommend would be: XinZhao Jax DrMundo Darius Irelia Trundle Kayle Udyr Vayne KogMaw Malzahar Elise JarvanIV Vi

Vayne is probably one of the best champions to take against him top lane if you know how to dodge his rupture and max W first.

Singed is another good choice, since he can just proxy farm and avoid laning against Cho'gath entirely.

Good early items against Cho'gath are Blade of the Ruined King, Black Cleaver, Hexdrinker, and MR/Health defensive items. Champions with innate resistance reduction or percent health damage (JarvanIV Vi KogMaw etc) are useful picks as well, though not necessarily in a lane against Cho'gath.
