Riot, Blizzard did something you should actually try.

Blizzard was adding cards to its new expansion and had players vote on which ones they wanted.

Do the same for items when it comes to updates. Throw your craziest ideas, have players vote, work on the concepts. Why have 8 minds work on items when millions could?

EDIT: This is not for balance, this is merely adding stuff to the game that the PLAYERS have fun with. Blizzard doesn't balance the game around what their players say, they analyze it and nerf things accordingly. Blizzard was adding a fun new expansion to the game, and the players decided what they liked best. That's what makes it FUN.

If memory serves, they had players vote for reveals. Players didn't decide on what cards to create, or which ones were put into the game. They didn't decide on release date, or if something was released.

I don't think OP meant balancing. More like pooling the masses' idea of what is fun for the concept of an item. The creating and balancing part comes after. For example, its more like Riot asking the players : "Do you like a new item with active "A" or active "B"?" then they work on that item. Seems doable, but it might be more trouble than its worth for Riot. Would be fun if it happens though.

This is exactly the point I was trying to get across.

I thought more people would see that I was talking about overall fun stuff like items, modes, maps, etc. But people always jump to the conclusion of balance since it seems to be a popular subject on these boards. Thanks for reading between the lines, my friend. :)

this is a good idea but i bet riot would find a reason to shelf it for next 3 seasons

How do you shelf a poll? Seriously, it takes like a minute to set one up.

easyly just do it they'll probably just look at it calculate how much more profit they can get out of it and how much resources they'll need and if its good enought for them they'll do it next season if not they'll shelf it for next 3 season and after that they'll reconsider it

Leaving it to democracy is a stupid idea. Most of the community doesn't know anything about balance, though they think they do. Occasionally riot makes mistakes but leaving it to the masses would be their biggest mistake yet.

There's a reason no real-world nation practices 'true diplomacy', and why we elect representatives to pursue our interests. The masses are largely incapable of effectively making the best decisions.

On matters of aesthetic opinion? As in - "What type of skin should we go for on champion x?" That would work.

On matters of balance? Not in a million years.

What are you talking about? Tyranny of the Majority is great.

Please note that I said CONCEPTS, not CHANGES. That means new content, things that could increase the fun of the game, not anything to do with balance.

Also, how could the majority be wrong about what they find fun? You can't be wrong about an opinion.
