Seeing how good the Dark Star mode is makes me want to say just one thing to Riot Designers.

Good job!

Seriously, this mode checks everything off the 'what we want from a Random Game Mode' list.

  1. Is it fun? Yes. Many people are enjoying it and the mode is popular.

  2. Does it feel unique and fresh? The mode has a new, smaller, destroyed version of red team base with a MOTHERFUCKING BLACK HOLE in the middle. The game's mechanics have been tinkered so much in this mode that it feels like a new game altogether.

  3. Does the game feel fair for both teams? Definitely. You're playing the same champions, are not burdened by runes/masteries, and the game mode itself does not have a steep learning curve, so Thresh players and new players do not really divert far from the norm in terms of skill.

So why am I making this post? Sadly, I'm not here to sing praises for your successes and walk out. I am here to give you some advice:

#When it comes to coming up with game modes, GO CRAZY!

The risk you guys took with this mode led to what is arguably the best game mode I have ever seen and played. Game modes like BMB, URF (this one is good but not perfect, sadly), and now Dark Star are modes that take the game, pull it apart and stretch it like taffy, and mold it into something we can all enjoy.

I am looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with next.

I honestly don't enjoy the game mode.

Melledoneus14 votes

Fair enough. But most people enjoy it, and certainly we could use more out-of-the-box game modes like this.

I agree, wasnt too fun to me, but im bad at the game so that may be biased :p

It was really one sided when I played it. All 3 people on my team were still kinda confused what to do and 2 other guys on the enemy team the same but the other guy just carried on the enemy team. It would be nice if there was more instructions imo

And I'm not even interested enough to try it, but I still think Riot did a good job with out-of-the-box thinking. I'll just sit back and patiently wait for an equally imaginative design that I AM interested in to come around.

is it fun?... only with a good team... and it will need at least 4 months so enough players get an ingame mmr and you stop being paired with bronzes so:

ITS NOT FUN... yet

The game is simple yet it doesn't become stale that quickly. It's literally knowing how the abilities work and familiarizing yourself with the skillshots.

Skins Project1 votes

And knowing when to go for a q on that low ass thresh & possibly die, or go for the star stand thingymabobbers to save yourself ;)

Nothing feels better then getting triple flailed and about to die just for you to save yourself.

Azure Dancer2 votes

It actualy becomes stale after a few games like every other random game mode.

You don't speak for everyone.

I've played about 10+ games. I'd gladly play more with friends.

Azure Dancer1 votes

Did i ever imply i meant everyone?

Nightshade Rose1 votes

is it that hard to get a good team of 3 people? just invite your friends or you know get into next game, this gamemode doesn't take long.

Next up on their checklist: doing a "manhunt" game-mode involving bard in which one person is "it" and has to tag everyone, with players he tags joining him. Even on the standard SR map it would still be pretty decent.

Velzard of Koz1 votes

Is "it" you say. That sounds more like a Shaco mode.

I used to play a game called Infection during recess which is basically just what you described.

My body is ready

You know...this makes more sense than one person playing Bard. One person plays Zombie Brand, and everyone else is some hyper mobile champ.....like Talon with an instant CD on the terrain. Brand is invincible/untargetable, and everyone else sits at like 1 health, so they die instantly to whatever Brand deems worthy for the occasion. If you die to Brand, you get to join him in playing another Zombie Brand, and start hunting the others.

2.Does it feel unique and Thresh?

I want more champion-focused game modes

I love it. It is really fast-paced and fun, and there's almost no toxicity since there's always something to do. It is a great way to de-stress. It's also great for getting Key Fragments because of the shortness of matches. I might actually get 12 Key Fragments in a cycle for the first time because this mode allows me to play so much.

Finally, the map is gorgeous.

Skins Project1 votes

I got 8 key frags out of 12 games.

I lost 4 of those games.

m1racles2 votes

It's certainly very well-made, but unfortunately I don't care for Thresh and how he's played. To me his flay is like riding a backwards brain bicycle and I don't see any appeal in learning it more. So he's just not my type of champion, but unfortunatley the whole game mode is centered around him.

Paquay1 votes

Wait, so you're saying this is better than playing ARAM while throwing poros in an attempt to summon the king so that you can feed him?? I don't buy it. :P

Yeah it's a great mode, they should add more modes with new map designs, i also really enjoyed black market brawlers for the short time we had it :( And also nexus siege is pretty damn fun. On the other end we have ascension, a worse version of a mode that literally noone played.

I feel like rotating gamemodes shouldn't be held back by being playable only on the weekends, maybe have one for each day, Monday Brawlers, Tuesday URF and so on, maybe even add a daily first win reward for each of them, maybe after you complete 3 daily urf wins you get a free exclusive icon like an achievement or smth, or just ip would be fine too. You can also use this to branch out and do so many things, like ingame emotes, kill animations like the urf ones, profile banners now that we have new client, just more customization and more goals for the players, add a bit flavour to the game.

Imo, I found it boring and stopped after two matches

Item sets aren't in the game yet but this gamemode is. I'd love to see their priority list, a roadmap of what they're going to do for the rest of the year.

The LCU developers are different people than the game mode designers. Don't put blame on the LCU people for something that the game mode designers did. Also, you do know that Item Sets are in testing for 7.10, right?

This mode sucks

gekyùme1 votes

I'm just playing the mode for the icons.

Stars Shaper1 votes

Yeah I've never had all this fun in League since months.

It's on par with the first appearance of Ascension.

And best yet, we have lanterns that force our teammates to take them. Yes!

everyone just keeps beating this same topic to farm upvotes, I thought you were better than this

yah sure it's fun and all but no need to say what's already been said a dozen times already
