No room for casual play in League of Legends. You are forced to commit to LoL or Uninstall

Ancient League·5/21/2019, 4:32:37 PM·54 votes·17,321 views

Been playing Video/Computer games for over 30 years and LoL for over 5 years. I used to commit 2-3 hours a day to play to attempt to get a win in a Match made game. if I got a win my first game then I play an other game to even things out. I can only seem to win against bot games now. Your match making process constantly over estimates my skill level and I have not a chance to win anymore. If you look at my life time win/loss you can easily see what I am talking about. I have won 2 games in the past 20 and 1 has been a bot game. I haven't the time to learn all the changes Riot applies to the game in order to have a chance at a victory. Every game except ranked is plagued with smurfs that have no points in a champion yet are ubber strong with them. Ranked is too competitive and the people there blame each other for things like ward placement.

So what is an old man to do when he just wants to have fun at having a chance at a game he would like to play once in a while?

I have put alot of cash into the game but can never see myself paying any more for a game that gives out nothing but grief.

I mean there is room for casual play, but like with every online game, a group of friends makes the experience better, whether ur win or lose.

Legit i monkey around with my low elo friends all the time in norms. Do we lose alot? Ye. Do we laugh so hard till we cry cuz someone forgot that jhin had more than one shot on his ult? Ye. Do we spam ping our friend who flashes into a wall. Ye. Do we completely forget that were winning a game to discuss the implication of micheal bay making a dora movie, and wondering when Boots will actually start wearing boots, thus throwing like the animals we are. Heck yes.

Its all down to how you look at it. But meh thats just me :3

I would suggest playing aram untill your mechanics improve

Are any of you even old enough to be lecturing this man about his gaining attitude? Many of you skipped the core of his post. He's already played this game many times, this is another person not even complaining that they are too good for their rank, this is another person complaining MM gives them matches put of their league.

The MMR system is stupidly broken, Elo system is designed for one unit vs. one other unit, not measuring individuals in team performance. It's a fact.

It's not totally like that. There are many "casual" players, who usually are less skilled than who actually commits to the game. And still, games are basically always a disgusting one-sided fiesta, indeed.

Point is: why if my skills are 4/10, their matchmaking doesn't match me with and against other 4/10 (on average) players?

One game their team is 7/10 and mine 2/10, another game it's the opposite. That's so flawed or, probably, rigged.

I'm a casual player. I've played ranked maybe once or twice, I don't even know if I finished my placements.

Yes, casual players still have a place in League. When I'm not working I spend good chunks of free-time on League with friends and we have a blast. Norms, bots, customs, ARAMs, TT, and even the occasional RGM can still be great fun with friends.

Ranked is too competitive and the people there blame each other for things like ward placement.

While I don't agree with certain people's mentalities, ranked is meant to be a more serious environment and it should be expected that casual players may have a rough time. It's a ranked competitive ladder, after all.

So what is an old man to do when he just wants to have fun at having a chance at a game he would like to play once in a while?

Play the game to have fun, don't focus on winning, play with friends. League of Legends can still be fun, especially with friends (just like every game) when you do really stupid team comps.

For all the people that suggest to this man that playing with friends is going to make it better, picking all troll team comps can be fun and so on: I myself got banned from the game in a game where we were full premades and all of us were inting and running down under turrets. No one got banned except me. So still try to have fun without playing the game in other way, because as a riot support member replied :,, the game is supposed to be played in a way" and we were,, ruining the experience" or something like that. Cannot remember how exactly he wrote that, because I stopped playing right after that and to this day I am glad I did.

Recommend you mute all and just play, win or lose

Sebastit7d5/21/2019, 11:43:46 PM3 votes

I've said this multiple times across different posts, the problem is the competitive mentality that has been ingrained in the playerbase over the years due to Esports becoming so popular, everyone wants to pretend they're pros so they learn every aspect of the game and most people just play meta things and also keep up with it. All of that on top of everyone expecting others to play perfectly as they imagine and then flaming if it doesn't go how they planned makes it such a toxic environment for someone that doesn't have much time to play or someone that hasn't learned the game yet, so i agree with OP in how the experience for someone casual could be hindered.

Original Sin5/22/2019, 12:30:33 AM3 votes

play aram. casual mode

Mr Dalloway5/22/2019, 3:45:38 AM3 votes

If you are casual just play ARAM. That's what I do.

Want to have fun? Dont play LOL.

OR

Spend the time to learn the game and yes it takes a lot to really understand how it works.

Learning Champ Mechanics is easier then game Macro. But Macro will get you farther I think. SOOO many people dont know macro at all. Its frustrating.

there is this game called Heroes of the Storm, you may wish to look in to it ^_^

Well... yeah, pretty much. If you don't have someone teaching you the game you're gonna have a bad time.

Unfortunately their tutorial covers only the things that would be obvious at first glance. For the more in-depth information you'll have to search around youtube.

If you do want to keep playing, find someone who's fairly decent so they can coach you at the same time as playing. And when looking for guides try to go for the ones catered to each position rather than each champion.

Plain Fries5/22/2019, 4:47:34 AM2 votes

Leave the game man, there are better mobas now. League is way past its prime.

FSRER5/22/2019, 6:36:47 AM2 votes

And what do you earn for commiting to competitive League? All kinds of diseases happen to you and your family after you get 1 0/5 adc at platinum elo....Yeah, really liking playing competitively

BigFBear5/22/2019, 6:44:14 AM2 votes

If you play 2-3 hours(!!) a day you aren't a casual player. You have 5 years of experience. Play ranked for God's sake. If you play ranked you will get in an Elo you belong and you can play against players on your skill level and then you can have fun again.

I don't understand why someone who plays lol for 5 years 2-3 hours a day is fearing ranked....

Hammermancer5/22/2019, 10:50:32 AM2 votes

I'm not as old as you but I'm nearing 30

my friends and I fuck around way too much, one of my buddies and I are proud of our (Unintentional) 30% winrate

It definitely has nothing to do with him throwing me under towers as Tahm kench then spamming emotes on me... which TOTALLY can't end with me Kali ulting him back under the tower

anyways i've said too much, the world can't know about the heroic struggle i face keeping the demon at bay

so if you want to joing add me I'll be on tonight

Scrapping Nexus Blitz was a mistake.

Honestly, as long as you are playing to win and not actively trolling, playing casually is not a problem at all. If someone flames you, just ignore them or mute them or whatever else.

But yeah.. the meta that has been created gives semi-casual players a huge benefit (the ones with naturally good twitch-reflexes) while punishing those that do not have those reflexes or have gotten slower over time. Tactical play is almost entirely gone and any time a new tactic is discovered, Riot guts it.

darkestsoul15/21/2019, 10:15:49 PM2 votes

Hey bud, you can add me and you can try playing with my group. We play normals and customs to have fun all the time. Skill isnt something we care about at all. Feel free to throw me an add if you want to give league one more shot. :)

I once loss like 20games in row in Aram. Mann, it felt bad lol.

There's still casual play. I never played with my league friends due to circumstances. But I played Aram and bots mainly.

I'll say stay away from ranked if you want casual. If you want casual in ranked play one rank game a day... lol... So you won't suffer too much from the horrible matchmaking.

Try to find some others who seek kind of game play you do. There's already few in this thread. They might be willing to give some pointers as well. I have met a few who helped me learn, there was one in particular, really friendly and causal. 😊

Spiçy5/21/2019, 9:06:06 PM2 votes

If you want casual, it's coop vs AI and special game modes, like the PvE ones.

Some regions, notably Korea, completely removed normal games. Only ranked. Normals attract trolls which seep into rank play.

Well I guess I will uninstall thensummoner 4 MasterYi

dim2a5/23/2019, 6:49:51 AM1 votes

My take on this is that league probably did not update your skill estimate yet. I'd guess after you lose another 20-40, you'll get back to where your win is 50/50 (in ranked, norms might take longer). The downside is you're likely to get more feeders/AFKers in that ELO, but it'll be easier to win (since they'd be on enemy team too), so long term your win rate should be 50/50.

Morbys5/22/2019, 11:10:53 AM1 votes

You can always play normals, winning doesn't matter, and yes, ranked atm is a pile of hot garbage. The changes to the game have created the power creep into a power steamroll, the game doesnt require skill and games are decided in the first 5-10mins. Too many broken champs that can't all be banned, have about 10 viable champs that just steamroll everyone out of 100+ champs.

Vonyalo5/22/2019, 12:04:20 PM1 votes

All problems of this game take their roots from its bad game design (matchmaking is not an exception): players that can only play one role (or even worse, one champion) getting autofilled, poor itemization design, extreme snowballing etc... Game design is not something you can easily change. So... you either get used to it or don't play at all.

Cavesloth5/22/2019, 12:58:43 PM1 votes

Don't waste your time with League, find something that's actually fun. League will only get worse with Riot at the helm. I quit League more than a year ago and it's been great for my mental health and my real life relationships. I still game but since my comps a toaster I can't do well in most FPS, but playing with my friends is still fun.

CoolKnightST5/22/2019, 3:07:40 PM1 votes

I think your better off with creating a new account. Their will be smurf add the start but your mmr is basicly reset and ones you level 30 you will probally be placed in high iron/bronze/low silver and you will be able to play the game again. You can demote yourself so much you want. It's your mmr that only can ballance out smoothly.

What's also worth mentioning ones you have time to play league against you will easy catchup to your old rank.

What I would do is create a smurf, level that one up and play ranked with that one. If you have feeling your getting better again you can away switch to your main and play ranked on a competive level again.

Eleshakai5/22/2019, 3:28:20 PM1 votes

I play somewhat casually. Sometimes I have enough free time(like the past week) to play a bit more often, but usually not that much. I do fine for myself.
