Meditate (W) new effect: "In addition, Master Yi will gain stacks of Double Strike and pause the remaining duration on Wuju Style and Highlander for each second he channels." fuck yea

Also in today's PBE build I believe, but harder to datamine, are a couple of other Yi changes:

  • The duration of E and R is paused while Yi's meditating (they don't tick down)
  • If Double Strike kills a minion or monster on the first hit the second will strike another nearby target (same behavior as Lucian's passive).

do you like Yi as the current sort-of-tanky on-hit fighter he is now, or do you have plans to push him into building anything else?

I haven't seen anyone build him tanky in like 2 patches.

I'm curious how fluid the automated target selection is on double strike given that yi is melee. Will Yi automatically walk slightly toward nearby minions to use it?

YuGiHo1 votes

yea its easy for lucian, he can shoot while moving and sometimes hit things that look outside of his autto range so it should be really interesting how this will work for yi

Fondling Gems4 votes

Guessing it won't show up much outside of clearing raptors or krugs where you kill stuff often enough that you are likely to kill with first doublestrike hit. Guessing it is also just in his Attack Range.

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

probably, but for those times when yi is holding lane i could see it being strange.

50000000000000001 votes

The second attack will probably just not try to attack something that's out of range. Same thing with Lucian passive. The second shot just hits the initial target again if the first target will be killed.

RiotNot Surrendering11 votes

He will look for things that he can kill and prioritise those, otherwise hit the closest thing (without moving). So no walking. He turns to face the direction he's hitting the second target, so it looks pretty decent.

Also incidentally found and fixed a bug with Lucian's one (killing a champion with the first shot will result in a second shot not firing).

Then depending on whether they use the same code or each have a separate copy of it, it might be good to take a look at Evelynn's E as it has the same behavior on killing a target with the first hit to make sure it does not have the same bug.

You happy with the direction these changes are going

the double strike killing a minion or monster thing is actually a good change

Meditate (W) new effect: "In addition, Master Yi will gain stacks of Double Strike"

  1. Do i get full stacks of Double strike right after Meditate or just a stack per second channeling ? Common thing for Yi mains is to use Meditate as Auto Reset so its expected Yi to gain full stacks of Double Strike if he cancels meditate

  2. Also can you reduce Meditate cooldown by 50% if Yi cancels it at 1st 0.5 seconds after activation? I mean 35 seconds cooldown for 1 auto reset is kinda ridiculous

Glory ln Death1 votes

Considering that it isn't exactly intended to be used that way, I doubt they'd do it. The trade-off seems fine the way it is.

That would be far too much of a buff. The fact that Meditate resets his auto timer is a small part of its power budget, but if it reset his passive instantly, it would have to be nerfed into the ground as an ability.

Shyvana's Fireballs explode and thats ok but Double Strike after meditate is not OK?

Damned Scholar1 votes

Shyvana's fireballs explode in dragon form, instead of shooting out in a cone like they used to do in dragon form.

So no, doubling Yi's auto reset is not the same as changing one feature of an ultimate to a different thing.

Yo bro

Yi's Double Strike does 150% on 2 rapid attacks Shivana fkin Q does 200% damage on 1 blow Jax also get auto reset and so on

Tell me again why Yi cant get Double Strike and Auto Reset on specific spell's active

Damned Scholar1 votes

Again, you're comparing one champion's base kit to another champion's ultimate. If you don't see the problem there, I don't think I can help you.

SlashStriker1 votes
  1. I never asked you for anything
  2. Shivana Twin Bite gives auto reset in normal form and ult form
Damned Scholar1 votes

What's all this about auto resets? Or do you just hate Shyvana?

But those are minor changes that doesent help current situation of YI, where are cooldown scalings on W and R cd?

Troll for Trump1 votes

What do you think should be Yi's identity(What he should be balanced towards, a "healthy state")

R0cks311 votes

These changes are nice but i was thinking it might be neat to add medium sized ap ratios to yi so he can use more items as well like .7 ap ratio on his Q and like a .15 on his e this would make gunblade and rageblade better .Next if his Q applied on hits it would buff his burst some improve his team fight a bit lastly allow master yi to hit Q a second time and he could go back to his starting position so he could have a slight form of harass. But if you did all of these i would lower ap ratios so on hit ap yi would not be broken witts ends mr shredd with nashor ap ratio and E true damage would be a bit much i think but it also might just make him a high tier jger cause atm he is trash i was a yi main for 2 seasons but atm he just is too weak early for wut u get later .

You may not have been around then, but in late season 3 ap yi was a huge issue. He had a 0.8 ap ratio on his q and I think one on his e too. People ended up going full ap with rabadons and they would be unkillable with their insane meditate heal and did tons of aoe damage. They removed his ap ratios due to this. Also he was super early on in season 6 with his sated devourer plus guinsoos rageblade combo and became a must pick or ban.

The duration of E and R is paused while Yi's meditating (they don't tick down)

Do you not feel, that this is essentially a removal of a counterplay mechanic? One core counterplay to R is "time it out". Forcing meditate out of yi is part of that. no ?

Shadòw1 votes

will Zed be looked at too?

RiotMeddler3 votes

Wouldn't want to make any changes to Zed until we've seen what impact the Lethality, Edge of Night and Duskblade changes in 7.2 have on AD assassins.

NOT TOO BIG SO YI BECOMES META, NOTHING TOO OVERPOWERED. RITO I LIKE IT [slayer-jinx-wink]

PermabannedGaren3 votes

As a Yi main, the double strike change is actually deceptively big and will improve his jungle clears on raptors and krug camps in particular.

I'm not sure about the meditate change. If nothing else now you're not being punished for using it in a fight, but idk, in most scenarios it would still be better as a quick burst blunting tool into an auto attack reset IMO.

Steelflame1 votes

As a not Yi main, I can definately see it helping. I know many times I'd have to swap targets multiple times to make the full use of doublestrike in the jungle, nice to now just allow it to auto-go. A very nice buff for raptors specificly, screw those irritating little things.

Sasogwa3 votes

Those buffs are like; really situational and don't help Yi that much, but it's nice to know Riot is thinking about Yi players :P

Never FF Boy3 votes

The W changes is really a good idea, this is pretty smart, it compensate the nerf on his ult and can buy time for Master Yi and gives him better dueling overall instead of buff his number.

But i dunno if there is other changes going on, but it seems not enough to get back Master Yi in the meta :/.

Meep Man2 votes

Not a huge buff, but it will certainly help, especially in the Jungle.

SlashStriker2 votes

"In addition, Master Yi will gain stacks of Double Strike "

I assume they still run test but there should be more clarification How he gains those stacks and how many? X Stacks/s or next basic attack is Double Strike

Blåbæret1 votes

Yi should never get buffs considering how easy he is to play and literally unstoppable once he gets bork and razor.

Gosh Darn4 votes

Normally I don't like to bring rank up, but seriously what elo are you? The counterplay to Yi is piling him or using any hard CC on him. If he doesn't build glass cannon, he's useless. If he builds glass cannon, he explodes as soon as he dives anyone. He's got one of the worst performance of any champion in high elo because his weaknesses are extremely exploitable.

He punishes the hell out of poor team compositions with no hard CC and that's about it.

Skias1 votes

I know they don't want to give him too much power, but power is sort of what he needs. He needs more flexibility to function in higher play.

Leanus Crain1 votes

Right clicks internally

XPandamon1 votes

please buff him even more, its not like he was the only champ that bought botrk even before it got buffed. nerf his goddamn true damage and his w damage reduction, it is way to much right now.

Niyumi1 votes

When you buff a broken champion and make it easier to play, despite it already being one of the easiest, strongest champions in the game. Grade A stuff, Rito. What skin is he getting?

BoilTheOil1 votes
Niyumi1 votes

Uh, sorry to break it to you, but winrate doesn't really determine whether or not a champ is broken. You'd call Poppy broken, right? Everyone else does. Well, I don't remember a time she's had above a 50% winrate.

But when Yi can solo carry a game, even against a team with a year and a half of CC, there's an issue. When he can kill squishies in two autos, tanks in four, there's an issue.

BoilTheOil1 votes

two autos? thats if you go full glass cannon crit yi and he is shitty in this early game meta also poppy was one of the best top laners
