It may not have been designed to be used on Ezreal originally, but of its users he is by far the most frequent and the best at it.

By making it melee only, you'd probably cut the usage of the item pretty well in half, if not more. The most frequent user of it right next to Ezreal's 41% (nearly 42%) pick-up rate of the item is Malphite at just about 9%, which itself is followed by Blitz and Poppy at about 7% and then drops harshly to Nasus at 3.5%.

At this point It looks like it practically was designed to be used by Ezreal, because he's the only one reliably using it. Even when it was better, Ezreal was still getting frequent flyer miles with it while barely anyone else picked it up at all unless they were a tank that was ahead (the high win-rate and low popularity tells me it's a luxury item that they can mostly only afford to have when they're pretty well ahead and they have better choices when they're not).

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it's not Ezreal's fault that the item is poorly designed and crappily used, he's just able to actually use that design and make it good.

Which can also be seen as it being too powerful on Ezreal so it's kept in a state weak enough to where it's balanced for Ezreal but weak for everyone else thus resulting in it being underpicked by every other champ.

Yet the same doesn't hold true for Trinity Force which is useful for more than just Ezreal. While Ezreal uses it better and more frequently than everyone else, that doesn't inherently signal a problem with Ezreal. Everything surrounding the item lends itself to being more useful on Ezreal than anyone else, despite the fact it wasn't originally meant for him.

It failed its original designed purpose. It didn't meet it's design goals, and Ezreal is not to blame for that.

Ezreal doesn't use it better or more frequently than everyone else. Corki, Irelia, Jax all use it as an essential part of their builds. Others not as common champs use it as well like a damage oriented vi and udyr, as well as top yasuo

Champion.gg goes by purchase order, not finished build.

I havent seen them use item 3040 or item 3042 in any of their final builds.

I know ezreals not ''broken'' or anything but its kinda frustrating when his build is item 3025 item 3158 and item 3070

But for some reason his ult does more damage than mine when im playing caitlyn with item 3031 ..

And his autos feel like they do the same damage <.,

Ez's ult has high bases but AP scalings and is reduced by 10% for each unit it passes through.

Yeah I agree about the ult, but then again its a skillshot so its not that broken. As for the autos, blue Ezreal has some really trash damage on autos alone while Cait 1 shots tanks late game which is really bullshit. I really have no idea what you are talking about as far as autos go (my 2 main adcs are Cait and Ez).

And its hardly one auto. Buy a runnans, hit 3 targets from a brush - you get your passive on every other shot. If youre not in a bush, its up every 3 shots. And we all know some 3-shot-passives that are the defining part of some champions.

Her passive is 150% bonus AD on the headshot. Thats her only steroid, One auto per 6 hits unless runaans proccin on minions.

They removed the armor pen from her headshot.

So in terms of ''killing tanks'' Caitlyn does not hit the hardest, Nor does she hit the fastest.

Literally all it would take to make Ezreal never have his endlessly-recurring "abuse cases" with an item again is to just make his Q not apply on-hit effects. They could compensate it by upping the base damage. Bam, problem solved. But it won't happen because applying on-hit effects consistently at 800 range on a 2 second cd is "part of his core identity."

i think the argument made was that her current playstyle/kit is more like a diver's. they want her to be more in line with assassins though, but won't be able to make the needed changes until her eventual VGU. (this is the argument i saw from Riot themselves, so don't gut me lol)
