Why a hyper carry ADC Meta is a sign of an unhealthy game (from an ADC main)
So we all know that ADC is in a state of hyper carry mode. you either play a hyper carry or you get shit on. Games very often (not all the time) are devolving into who can kill the enemy adc fastest in a fight or risk losing it all. That's not to say ADCs are the only win condition, but the focus around them is higher right now then usual. why is that? let's take a look at the meta first:
1.) tank top/jungle are meta, ADCs excel at melting tanks. hyper carries are really the only ones who can melt multiple tanks fast enough 2.) support itemization is bonkers right now allowing you to save a carry EASILY and RELIABLY. ADCs are highest dps class so they benefit the most 3.) ADC Itemization is not that bad right now, it's not overpowered by any means, but ADCs can spike in a reasonable amount of time now.
the combination of all these leads to a hyper carry meta. but it shows you just how unhealthy the game is. watching pro play is why I decided to make this post. in IMT vs TSM, IMT often had TSM dead to rights but Doublelift through sheer safety/skill of playing Tristana combined with pro levels of peel (3/4 health bar level locket shields on him multiple times) was unkillable. If TSM could get a good engage on Cody Sun and wipe him out at the start. they won the fight. if they couldn't get to him? they lost.
that's what pro level fights are more often devolving into. no one is carrying the fights besides ADCs anymore. and thats unhealthy. and its not because ADCs are "overpowered" or because other classes are weak. The meta is just super unhealthy.
Riot REALLY should look deeply at giving other tools to take down tanks for other classes if they so choose to invest in it. obviously DFG was an attempt back in the day that didn't work, but other classes need something to tank down these tanks. otherwise we will never be able to have a tank meta that doesn't involve a hyper carry meta. The Support itemization is a really really big culprit. I'm all for supports having cheap, powerful actives in exchange for shittier stats, but with their increased gold income (hi nomad's medallion) they now have a ton of these and can stack them REALLY easily.
My personal feelings are something has to be done about shield stacking. to where bringing an assassin is worth it so you can't just build a protect the hyper carry comp and let your adc play like a monkey. right now any adc who isn't a completely 150% trash can carry if their team plays around them. By making stacking multiple shields/heals on the same target do less with each consecutive one it will allow an adc to be punished for being out of position. it will also stop teams from having multiple support items in non support roles like knight's vow and locket on your jungler/top.
If ADCs are unkillable they will always be the best class. they are only balanced by their fragility. and right now, as an adc main I can confidently say I have never felt safer. I feel I have to really fuck up hard to die. like be way caught out or play way too aggressive. or my team just for some reason didn't realize all they had to do was peel me. It's not healthy. I love playing ADC but the power AROUND the class (not the class itself) needs to be looked at.
