Attn PBE Testers: TRY NEW THINGS!

This is something I have noticed over the last few months, especially with all of the champion reworks, Aurelion Sol, and now Taliyah coming out. Nearly every YouTube video I've seen and everyone who suggests or comments on build ideas seems to be stuck on the idea that everything they play in a game while testing has to be optimal, or hell even viable.

**STOP THINKING THIS WAY!! **

Look, Riot has given you access to this client in order to TEST things. It's not to win, although winning is always fun, but I promise you that they don't care if you're winning all of your games. It's not ranked.

This really got under my skin with Aurelion Sol. Game after game after game I saw item 3027 and item 3116 and that is pretty much all. Yeah there were a few people who actually had the right idea and tried him out AD, or tank, or something off the wall, and for the most part it sucked, but they tried it. And they didn't just try it and scrap the footage, they still uploaded it. I deeply thank them for that.

So stop with this crap about, "I don't think it will be any good so I don't want to even try it." Who gives a shit!?

For example, I don't think there is a single AD Taliyah video uploaded to YouTube, and if there are, there are at least one hundred AP videos for every one.

...

Idk, maybe it's just me. Maybe I should just get a PBE client and do this for myself. Maybe that will be what makes me into a YouTube star so I can finally quit my day job. .. or maybe not.

Yes, Youtubers, spread misinformation about how a champion is best played so that when they come out, the people who play it that way due to said misinformation fuck their teams over because they aren't playing optimally. Shame on you.

I would lay the responsibility of that on the YouTuber to state that this not an optimal build at the end of the video, or the viewer to have enough brains to see if the game even went well. If the player went 0/11/0 and the viewer thinks that's a build they want to try, they're probably a bit slow to begin with. If the player goes 8/6/5, it still may not be an optimal build, but it might be playable enough for someone to take it into matches.

There is no shame on me. I would rather someone share how things work, or don't work, so I can decide if I would like to try it for myself.

You seem to be under the impression Riot wants them to test new builds, but that's not the case. Riot wants them to try and find bugs, and that's usually it (unless it's a "highly experimental" change). Building "meta" on a champion is a good way to check for bugs that the average player would encounter.

But then, you miss stuff like the Jax Zhonya's bug. Bugs that are highly gamebreaking, and thus spread quickly as people who know about the bug exploit it to win games. Sure, the average player isn't going to face a Jax building Zhonya's. That doesn't mean the bug isn't worth catching.

And you think Riot will identify all of the bugs by evaluating thousands of games where she's played the exact same way? Also from a balancing perspective, by testing her strength in off meta builds they can identify and avoid things like another Tank Ekko. As for bugs, what if she has a bug that causes her to deal extra damage when she has over 150 AD, or full attack speed, or if she is full tank, just as a few examples? If testers never try these things during beta they will not discover that until she hits live servers.
