sauce is op.gg

a challenger players most recent 20 games. looked for the first 3k gold lead and at what time it occurred. put a time stamp next to it.

out of 4 games which were turned around. 2 were in mid game or later. (24 minute mark game 6, 25 minute mark game 10) and two which were turned around from the early game (17 minute mark game 8 and 13 minute mark game 16).

((assuming you classify 17minutes as early game, its right on the tip, could be mid game at that point))

what this means is that leads in general give an 80% success rate at determining the outcome of the game.

in total 10 games that had a lead in the early game (under 15minutes).... (games 1,2,4,5,7,11,12,13,14,16)

had a 90% success rate. where only 1 game was turned around.

(depending on whether or not you classify the 17minute game (game 8) as early game, if included it changes the data to be out of 11 games. so an 18.18% chance to turn around an early game when the lead is in the enemies favor)

putting it all together.

this is nothing new, but if you are behind in the first 15minutes of the game, its going to be quite the struggle and you will likely have to cheese out a win by picking off the biggest baddest player on the enemy team before the fight starts in whatever way you can. or wait for the enemy team to throw at baron. thats it, those are your only hopes, coordination and scaling are myths as seen in challenger.

#you should absolutely play to win the early game

if you guys are interested i could also do a random bronze player as well for comparison.

Agreed with your argument that early game is incredibly important - but you also picked your data from the very best top tier.

These players generally don't throw leads or make retarded mistakes like people do in every other tier. I'm sure that if you pulled data from bronze/silver, you'd see those lines intersect multiple times through a game.

This is true but they also know how to play from behind and people in bronze will just say ff 20. I agree though maybe he should compare bronze, gold, and challenger

Playing from behind in most cases involves being down a kill in lane when Vi comes and cheese ganks you at 2, not when the enemy team is up 3 dragons, rift, 4 turrets, and each laner has 50+ cs more than their opponent. This is an unpopular opinion, but I find it extremely tilting when the team acts like there's nothing wrong when this happens, even though its clear that you now have less than a 10% chance of winning. The higher your elo, the less likely it is that the enemy will throw their advantage.

Ever notice that Challenger/Master games are usually over in less than 30 minutes, while Bronze/Silver games go past 40-50 minutes?

Sure, that team MIGHT throw their lead, but it's very unlikely. It's like having someone go AFK 10 minutes in. Sure, you MIGHT still win a 4v5, but it's more likely that you will stall the game at best, have to play absolutely perfectly while the enemy is free to make dozens of mistakes, and even when you win a teamfight, oh wait, there's Tryndamere top lane again taking Inhib. To me, it's just tilting and frustrating and puts me in a pissed off mood in my next game, rather than just cutting losses when it's clear your team isn't going to come back.
