worst part about being a mid laner

Very Hard Engage··220 votes·7,368 views

is when the enemy mid laner roams, and you're expected to counter roam with him, prevent it, and kill him in return.

like pushing my lane, denying him cs/exp, dealing tower damage/taking the turret, pinging mia and the threat where its going, showing them on the map with preemptive warding/pinks, isn't enough for the team.

oh but thats right, you dont listen to pings, or check the minimap.

Only in bronze do they expect a xerath to follow a leblanc

EDIT: I know this happens in all ELO's, I was just getting the message across that only ignorant players tell them to follow, regardless what league they are playing in

The Great Divide28 votes

Nope, it continues in high silver (where I was for most games last season until I breached gold). I cannot tell you how many times I would get berated for not roaming as much as the ahri/leblanc/fizz/zed/kat/etc as like lux, syndra, or anivia.

Taarki9 votes

It happens in gold also. When you play lux and are expected to follow LB, kat, zed into the barely warded river... and its worse when they go through their jungle to gank bot and your team expects you to go into their jg to stop it.

KyojiTakajo5 votes

It happens in Plat 5, but I'd say that counts as gold too. I'm lux and my bot lane expects me to follow the Kat...

LiungLindwurm11 votes

Plat is on the same boat

Enloct6 votes

Ayy, it happens in Diamond. Now we just need a Master/Challenger to confirm.

Dolasaur12 votes

Well, I frequently spectate challenger games, and it seems to happen there. Lux mid will ping MIA when LeBlanc is gone for 5 seconds, 20 seconds later LeBlanc gets a double kill bot lane, and 5 seconds after that there's a bunch of MIA ping spam in mid lane. I can't see team chat in spectate, but passive aggressive pings speak loudly enough ;)

YuGiHo2 votes

yes lux follow that zed into the darkness, better that you risk your life than bot land just pull back till he comes back to lane lol

Trust me,still used to happen to me pretty often last season when i was high plat

Honestly, you can't even safely follow your laner in many match-ups.

If you attempt to follow them, they could easily just wait in Fog-of-War to ambush you and kill you.

In many cases, the best you can do is just ping MIA and indicate which lane they are roaming to (spam-pinging your allies back). If they don't respond to it, then they are at fault.

Yup this is exactly what I do, or I tilt the other team in allchat by writing "LeBlanc mia :)" after a gank, and then they start raging at their mid laner.

It's so easy to set the other team off in solo queue and make them all start raging at each other. People would have to be an idiot to follow a roaming leblanc as most champions, especially if she has a lead. But that doesn't stop everyone from raging at their own midlaner for not doing it :)

GayFluffyUnicorn2 votes

The sad thing is if people weren't braindead the enemy leblanc, zed, kat would roam. Lose one or two waves, be a level behind, tower half dead and they gained nothing for it. Instead the toplaner pings them because even he saw them roaming bot on the map and somehow botlane starts to fight the enemy when everyone sees the midlaner coming....

If midlane roams twice without you counter roaming then I am expecting first tower blood or he won lane and got another lane ahead

warpenguin5556 votes

even if he doesn't do anything on those roams?

Live2LetDie5 votes

Of course. He still showed presence which mad lane back off, probably miss CS and xp. If you don't leave lane then his towe should drop first.

NineTailedMystic13 votes

APs can't take towers that easily that early. Takes a few waves without jg assistance.

Ziggs says hello!

Except he might just be in bot lane where the tower has already fallen for your team.

unless the ennemy jungler goes to lane to stop the wave

I think the worst part of playing mid lane is that eventually, whether the rest of your team is doing good or not, they will leave their own lanes (sometimes with turrets still up) and bring ALL THEIR SHIT to mid with them.

Leave to farm solo? Nope! Bot will follow you and soak up all the gold and you can't even get a level advantage over enemy due to shared proximity experience.

Go merely to save turret top or bot, farm is purely secondary? Everyone that clumped mid abandons all of a sudden and gives T1 away for free or leaves the support to defend it, giving them a free kill, in addition.

Try to wave-clear stubbornly to hopefully get majority gold? Waste a ton of mana for almost no return, team then chooses that exact moment to extend out and forces a stupidly pointless and overall needless fight, one or two people get caught out of a safe position, messy teamfight ensues, you're lucky to break even by some goddamned miracle. Lose most of mid turret health, if not destroyed.

Meanwhile, enemy sees your team dicking around and get an unchallenged dragon and possibly one or both of your own jungle's buffs.

There's a time to group up, yes I realize, but they almost never actually know when that time is and make blanket assumptions which make the game much more difficult than it needs to be.

RamboDash1516 votes

I'll ping that they've left and then hard push the lane. If I know where the jungler is I'll go steal a camp or two. I know that if I follow I'll most likely die like the boosted animal I am.

Glory ln Death10 votes

^This.

I don't care if you don't roam after your opponent, especially if you're a bad roaming champion, but at least do something productive while they're gone!

Push in their wave. If you can do damage to the tower (Ziggs, AD midlaner, etc), get damage on it and maybe take it. Clear some of the enemy's jungle. Go gank the other lane. Just do something productive!

It's so annoying to see the enemy mid roaming while our mid just freezes lane and last hits minions. Or, to a lesser extent, they push to the tower and sit there attacking it with their 45 damage, once every 2 seconds auto attacks. You're basically a minion to that tower - go find something better to do.

LOL So true, had a game where I was winning mid. Enemy mid roamed bottom lane I pinged 3 times on the map and EVEN followed the mid bottom lane.

Bot got ganked and died, then I get yelled at by my team. " mid please ping your mia" ITs like -.- umm dude i'm down here bottom with you .. and I did ping and followed them down and you still didn't pay attention

Pushed to tower, enemy mid laner leaves. ping missing, ping danger pings along their likely path, ping retreat on allied laners Type in chat: "Care bot, mid is roaming."

(Ten seconds later) => An ally has been slain.

"Nice SS mid!"

"... I pinged until I couldn't ping any more?"

"Type it next time!"

"I did."

awkward pause

"THEN FOLLOW!!!!!"

I love it when I'm playing support or jungle or something and a mid laner pings mia or danger and the adc or top complains about not getting a ping when all they have to do is look at the chat box to see the 5 that they sent.

tfw you get camped by enemy jungle+support and your jungle doesnt even try to do objectives and your bot loses a 1vs2

It is honestly situational, like many aspects of this game... lol.

  • What champion are you playing?
  • Wheres the minion wave?
  • Wheres the enemy jgler and who is the enemy jgler?
  • Can you 1v1 said mid laner In case they turn on you? In other words, whos at an advantage in your lane?
  • Are you even in your lane? Walking back?

and some more. but you shouldn't let this get to you lol. It should be expected in low elos that your teamates have tunnel vision and 0 awareness.

A big issue I do see is that THERE IS NO RESPONSE when the opposing party roams. If you know a player is roaming 100% the least you can do is push the wave to tower. AT LEAST.

notmebuthim4 votes

-Why didn't you follow the assassin that roamed to my lane? -Didn't want to get one shot on top of not stopping the roam because I got one shot

People like you are why the "Lets Gangbang Bot Lane" meta works. The moment the opponent realizes that you aren't going to follow, you have all but doomed your bottom lane to an unfair fight. While you're afk farming for 10 CS, your bottom lane gets obliterated and the game is pretty much over. Pings aren't going to help anyone in a 2v4, because not even the tower helps us down there once the enemy knows we're on our own.

Very Hard Engage14 votes

i know exactly how bad it is in the bot lane, but from my stand point you're over extended, i warned you, and you made zero effort to run away or do anything different besides keep up the pressure on your opposing laner and you were severely punished for it.

from my stand point thats bad communication.

the acceptable response is consider whos roaming, is it an orianna or a leblanc? if its LB keep running past your turret, enemy laners wont be able to follow and thus its a 2v1 against a leblanc. if its ori you can call the mid/jungle to help out. they just cant gap close like LB can.

if you're a support you can easily remedy the situation by placing a ward in the brush thats furthest from your tower and the top laner will have something to TP to and counter gank in a favorable flanking position.

if its a 4v2 and you feel like they're running right at you, you need to place deeper wards so you have a larger margin to avoid the situation, we can only make it a 4v4 skirmish, its up to a team to prevent it outright. (which they started and likely have the upper hand)

but here we are, another round of which bot lane feeds.

i'll roam bot lane too, no problem, it just has to be as advantageous for me as it was for that leblanc.

Dezell7 votes

'You're overextended' under your own turret. Yep.

Here's what always pisses me off. Mid roams bot, hangs out for over a minute, and when I look to see what our mid's doing he's standing in the middle of the lane last hitting.

You can't follow? Don't follow. But if you're just going to stand there like an idiot and do nothing while there's a party in my lane, they get a kill and a free turret, while you get 10 cs, you deserve all the rage you get.
