Nerf Garen's silence please.

A silence that long, plus the slow and spin, plus ult is enough to demolish pretty much any caster in the game before they have a chance to respond. With his W and speed boost, there aren't enough reliable ways to prevent him from getting to you in most cases. Cutting it to 0.75 seconds would make life more interesting for Garen's opponents.

Garen doesn't have a slow in his kit. If you're talking about dead man's slow or maybe glacial augment or some other slowing item Garen builds sometimes, you should say so. I assume it's dead man's though, because Garen builds that pretty often.

True, but so many Garens at my level build for slows that I tend to count it as "expected". I'll grant you that, though, it's not technically a part of his kit.

Question, why do you take summoner 1 and summoner 3 every game regardless of the enemy teams comp?

all i can think of is stay near minions during his E you will notice a big damage drop.

Good point, but that doesn't help, say, when he ambushes you en route to dragon.

stay near scuttle or who/whatever creature is near you to cut that damage if theres no kind of creature to slow his damage you could ward harder in advance.

I may just have to do that. Pay extra attention to his favored paths of approach and make sure they stay warded.

Garen is not that great. Pick someone who can kite properly or beat him in the all in and you'll be fine.

Lissandra can kite properly and I kited properly all game. But when it was time to go in, the goal is either E -> W -> Ult or Q -> W -> E. In either case, he silenced me the moment I got close enough to W and before I was able to ult or E out of it, I was dead. Every time. Unfortunately when you're teamfighting, Lissandra can't be excused to just stay back and let Garen destroy her teammates one by one when she could freeze him in place.

To be frank, as Liss he should never get on top of you, kiting is very easy and simple on her. If it is a "Garen in a bush" sitiation. unless he is mega fed, he cant one shot you in the silence, you should snare, and jump away and be fine. I would work on kiting and proper positioning if I were you. It isn't a Garen being broken issue. Because he is not.

how do you time such a close range W though?

As you get use to her kit it becomes easy to time things like that. One thing to remember is even if he is mid animation (Takes like .25 or something) you can snare him. He will still silence you but he cant stick on you. So worst case you can get a snare off while he is mid animation and walk away. All that being said, I am a D2 player with level 7 mastery on Lissandra. I am going to have quicker reaction time because of both these things. For someone who is newer to her and/or is lower elo it might not be as easy as I am making it sound.

so pretty much at the 'slam' part is your best part of knowing of when to time it?

No that is worst case scenario. Like I said once you get use to it, you know when he is in range and you can time it before he gets to you.

fair enough in the meantime if/when i play liss ill use aftershock to get used to that timing then adapt to comet after im solid with the timings. (except aftershock always vs burst like zed).

into squishy teams or a team with only one hard carry that you need to one shot you should try electrocute, its way fun.

Fair enough, it could be that I play her wrong. (Though I do win with her often.) I tend to play her at support, and when I support, I feel it's my duty to protect my team. When Garen tries to spin everyone to death, if my W can stop it, I want to go in and stop it.

That could be it too. He might have levels on you and you dont have items, so you are naturally more squish.

For the go in part. I would recommend this instead. Get between your carries and him, but dont walk up to him. generally when he is spinning you can kite him out, specially since you can q and slow him. Do that. When he stops spinning and goes for another silence snare him just before he gets to you and continue to walk away. It can be difficult at first to time the snare, but as you continue to play her youll get use to it. Worst case, you snare him right as he silences you. This will proc your aftershock, so you take less damage and still snare him and be able to walk away.

Then you didn't kite properly lol. If Garen gets on top of you as Liss it is you not kiting properly. He didn't even have flash

Garen main here.

While his Q can definitely be annoying for some, the champion as a whole isn’t doing so great. With that note, he is definitely kiteable and not that broken, provided you’re playing safely enough and not feeding the Garen etc.

Some of our folks here have already given some meaningful advice, but my main recommendation would be to wait for the Garen to be the initiator in the team fights (from the enemy) instead of you initiating from your team. Garen’s Q at a max CDR goes as low as 4 seconds. But that’s just enough for you to get your full combo in as a Lissandra if you make your move around his Q.

Just a side note, but there’s a couple more painful and annoying silences out there - such as Malzahar Chogath Fiddlesticks. I think I’m missing one or two more, but yeah. Theirs are definitely longer and more annoying.

cough cough Soraka

Out of the four mage silences I'm aware of, they make Garen's Q look like a joke.

Malzahar Q - AoE, Groundsource Skillshot (bypasses Yasuo's Windwall), refreshes the timer on enemies afflicted with his E, and is a spell that powers up his W (actually prefer going EQW on minions to power push wave).

Fiddlesticks ? - While technically single target (and useless when that happens), if two champions stay near each other and he hits them with this, they take a lot of damage from the bounces.

Chogath W - AoE cone that scales with his size; also pretty sure it slows by itself, though I may be thinking of Q; also QW helps Cho waveclear and thus regain health and mana with passive.

Soraka ? - A silence that evolves into a root, which allows her to hit Q more reliably and thus spam E more often to provide sustain.

get mercs, he is weak and a terrible team fighter he needs zero nerfs. get mercs take tenacity, it becomes half as long

as a Evelynn main I kind of Hate Garrens Silence Interaction, for Example I land the charm I try to E In but while charmed he auto attacks/cancels all my moves.

or Anybody Else who Can Cancel my E While Charmed for that matter, which is a stupidly long lost.

you can cut the silence duration to 1 second by going tenacity runes in precision.

you can also bridge part of the remaining silence duration with the unstoppable on your w. if you w while the the animation of garens q plays, youre locked your own w animation anyways, so it mostly doesnt matter that youre silenced for another 0.5 to 1 second, as youre not casting spells during the time you walk forward and flame breath.

you also regularly fail to make use of your passive on ornn. you get two upgraded items at lvl 13. you often build items that dont get the free upgrades and have one to 0 upgraded items in your inventory as a result. its a ton of wasted power budget. youre just giving up 2000 gold worth in free stats like that.

to put this into perspective, this is as if you had about 100 cs or 7 kills more worth in gold. youre just ignoring a gigantic part of your kit.

your summoner spell choice is questionable at best. summoner 4 is mandatory on every champion to make plays. in ornns case it would probably be flash + e into a wall next to an enemy to remove his ability to react to your engage. summoner 12 is important especially on a tank to be able to roam and make plays around the map. your job is to be present in teamfights, and use your cc to set up your team for victory, not to split push and try and duel a fighter in the sidelane. tanks should always get outscaled by fighters in 1v1 because they have more teamfight impact.
