A Silver 5 experience playing on a Diamond 3 ranked solo account

So I went over my buddies house this weekend and he wanted to play some league. He has 2 accounts a Diamond 1 and a Diamond 3. So we dou qued as my main role (ADC and him as Jungle/Mid). So playing 10 games in 2 days we went 8-2. This is a list of things that were amazingly different from silver/bronze play that I noticed. I also had him talking in my ear every 10 or 15 seconds on how to manage my lane wave position if I should be pushing or letting them push or telling me where to rotate to (all were amazingly helpful).

  1. Kills – People only go in when they are getting a gank or able to secure a kill, never any other time.
  2. Team fights – If we won a team fight we take 1, maybe 2 objectives and then back off to go buy they never sat around after trying to get more
  3. Pings – People us them so much more
  4. Wards – Never have seen so much of the map lit up
  5. Skill shots – people actually dodge and you have to predict where to shoot them instead of right at the people
  6. Flash – Flash is used about 50% offensively verse almost 90% defensively in low elo.
  7. Objectives – it felt like the pace of the game was not to kill the other team but to get more objectives than the other team. My friend would tell me to let the lane push to our tower then he would come bot and we get the kills or force them off. Then we take the tower and dragon almost every game. Once that is done he would have me sit bot lane with a lane freeze (he taught me how to setup consistently) just outside of our tower range. I was then able to outfarm the opponents. Every point was to force an objective and choke them out.

Meanwhile in low elo theres always somebody on the verge of afking or making others afk through toxic behavior

People over chase for kills and willingly die for the chance at them

Refuse to group or linger about and farm the jungle

Dive into 1, 2 or 3 v 5 team fights then after the case blame teammates for not being there

And generally taking every opportunity to cry, moan and complain in chat

My thoughts is that I wish I had a friend to teach me how to get better. I'd murder a parakeet named Robinson for one.

I think it was krepo who said regarding skill shots that bronze-gold you aim them right at your target, plat-master you have to anticipate the juke, and challenger+ you aim right at them again.

But yes, objectives win games, and people at higher elos are in the business of winning games. There are some somewhat mechanically talented people in low elo who are fairly good at killing the enemy team, but have no sense for actually getting objectives off it, and so they end up stuck in 'elo hell'. I have an account I keep in bronze for the lulz, and while sometimes my kda is meh, I usually win just since I'm spending most of the time living in fear of the dark map while pushing towers and ignoring the constant skirmishes or teamfights (within reason).
