A better ranked system that should be in place

So with the current ranked system in NA low elo is a fiesta. You need to change the way the ranked programs work to give players more fair games. The problem is this you have 27 ranks between bronze 5 and challenger/masters (25 ranks to D1). In 10 ranks, bronze 5 to silver 1, you have 70% of the ranked player base. Then you have 30% for 17 ranks. Assuming you did even distribution for the ranks as the player base sits Bronze 5 to Silver 1 = 7% of players, then from gold 1 to challenger is 1.7% of players. The odds of getting someone who is having a bad game or just unskilled for the division is much higher in low elo. A more even distribution of players among the ranks needs to occur to plat 1. This gives low elo players less of a chance of a landslide game with more balanced teams.

The player pool you should pull from is starting with your division, then go to the next rank up/down to get the top/bottom from there based of LP. Pulling players from an MMR based system doesn't make sense because your rank is based off wins and losses. An example of this was on a stream of a D1 player he got matched with a D5 player who was on a 4 game win streak with over 20 kills in those games (probly got super lucky to get fed). In the game he played you could see he was clearly mechanically outmatched. If you put a D2 player in his place the skill gap should be much less and again games should be closer.

Honestly i can understand why it happens in diamond, for the player base is so low, if you had diamond ones only face diamond ones, they would be waiting for ages for a single game.

But in low Elo bronze-plat, where the player base is so high, their is absolutely no reason for a bronze to ever be seen in a silver game, or a silver to ever be seen in a gold game. I know this doesn't happen to often, but the other day I had a duo bronze bot lane in my game, back when i had gold mmr, placed agains two silvers who had gold mmr.

What the actual fuck?

Rito please, when you thousands upon thousands of players in bronze silver and gold, JUST IN NORTH AMERICA, their is no reason for anyone to ever breach the system.

What's the actual point of ranked if match maker doesn't even follow it's own rules?

thats why mixing MMR and a win/loss system doesn't work, you get games that are clearly mismatched

They aren't mixed. MMR is what matters. LP is just a wrapping meant to make the MMR system "look good". And by "look good" of course I mean make players obsess more over trying to "grind" it out in order to make them play more games.

Your idea of using the LP system for matchmaking instead of MMR would make games way less balanced. The problem with landslide games nowadays is mostly caused by the rampant snowballing, the steady increase in damage throughout the game by the rito balancing team, and absolutely pathetic towers.

The problem with MMR is if my teammate does terribly and has 20 deaths in a game (like I had a few days ago) then my MMR goes down since I lost(goes up if I win). It doesn't matter how well I can play because your are putting a win/loss system on your mmr. MMR is individual player skills when you are laying that on a team game where my teammates actions directly influence my win/losses inturn my MMR. So yes they are combined.

I had a game I lost where i was 15/5/4 as ADC my mmr still went down. I did the most damage in the game, most cs in the game. I also took all of the objectives that was able to by my team. My top and jungle just fed too much early. How did I deserve to lose MMR? game link below

So? Everyone loses games they 'should' have won and wins games they 'should' have lost. You go up by influencing the games that could go either way.

you clearly don't have an understanding of MMR based off that remark

And what you don't understand is that EVERYONE gets teammates that play badly from time to time. EVERYONE gets carried from time to time. Everyone is going to get a percentage of games that were won in match making and lost there plus a percentage that they can affect. And those percentages over the long run are going to be fairly equal for everyone once they're where they belong in rank. Those that rise do so because they do better in the percentage of games they can affect than those that don't. The system doesn't say mwahahahhaha I'm going ot mess with RacerX4114 this year and give him much more dC's Trolls, and griefers than everyone else gets just to keep him down.

im saying the MMR system is bad when combined with the win/loss lp system. You need to pick one to stick with for ranked.

Other games do it clearly better than riot, starcraft 2 for example takes the method i described in my original post, they award points based off of the likely outcome. You play someone a division below you get less, same rank you get 18, above your rank you get more. If you lose its just the negatives of that.

example 2 CS:GO bases their ranks off MMR, you can lose 5 games in a row but rank up if you play well. They only give you a rank display with no point system.

Both of those games have a ranked system that reward in different styles for true player skill. Riot does not for someone coming in the bottom of the ladder.

The biggest problem is Riot starting out brand new players, playing their first ranked game ever, at low Gold/high Silver MMR. It's a fucking joke and if you ask Riot support about it they will review the game and tell you the teams were "fair" according to their system....

No fucking shit your system views the teams as even, you put a clueless new player at low gold MMR for their first placement matches, and let them drop from there. Few games ago had a Varus on our team that had 50cs 25mins into the game, 0 kills, 6 deaths....Is it really his fault? No, kid has no clue how to play the game, just hit level 30, jumps into ranked and gets fucking stomped because he starts at low gold MMR, this shit was in my buddies last game of his gold promos btw, which we lost.

Start the new fucking accounts at high Bronze mmr and let them rise or fall from there. If they really belong silver or higher they will get there quick, but 99% of these new players I've had this season who have been straight stomped end up B2/3 after placements and fucking over those games, then tank to B5. Like it was mentioned above, it's a coin flip roll of the dice and if you are on the losing end of that shit you get fucked real nice

What grinded my gears; was I actually had a new level 30 in his first ranked game ever (Placements) in my Silver 1 promo games. He ended up going against a past season Plat and going 0-14. He apologized after the game for being new and I accepted that.

I just couldn't believe how badly the matchmaking system completely doomed the team from the get-go. I'm seeing this almost every game this season. It's intoxicating the level of team imbalance in most games. There's been games where we've gone 30-2 team score and other games vise versa.

im suprised riot hasnt addressed new accounts starting in bronze, they should never be put in a silver game let alone a promo game. Games in low elo are just so 1 sided its a roll of the dice to hope you are on the team thats going to be the 15-4 team score at the 20 min mark

Credit given where credit is due, thanks for not saying "LP gains should be based on champion mastery score."

I agree that low level matchmaking feels odd. You've got the new players dropping right in the middle of Silver, you've got people who are really good, you've got people who are occasionally good, and you've got people who are down right bad, and you mix them up and divvy them out to the different teams. In general, it feels like it takes Matchmaking too many games to get someone who's actually Bronze/Silver/Gold level to where they actually belong, and I think a lot of players give up because it's frustrating to slog through that.

thats my feeling when i play i feel its a roll of the dice to who gets the feeder our team or theirs

It's because lower elo has more skill variance due to people being shit at doing X, but can do Y. In high elo, people can do both X and Y.

Let's see...

I hate to diss ranked for a top twitch competitive game but:

  1. Auto filled. I main support. I get auto filled to support and protected for support. Thanks? I guess?

  2. As a support main who has the one of the least wanted roles in the game, I rather support someone who isn't auto filled in ranked. I thought ranked was about measuring skill. Not about basically Aram and Poker and how bad your team mate is.

  3. We have a duo and trio queue. Why do we even need both?

  4. Afkers, feeders, and etc being an example of your MMR and affecting your MMR is just pathetic. Yes, it's a team game. Since it is a team game, there should be 3-5 max man queue without the solo/duo queue if you want to keep the MMR working that way that badly.

  5. How to split up least wanted to play roles 101; splits queues into two halves unevenly. I thought autofill was to reduce queue times, not increase.

  6. How to dodge autofill 101. Again, I thought autofill was supposed to reduce queue times.
