Hard carry with support in bronze?

I'm one of the rare freaks that likes to play support. My problem is I'm new to the game and sitting in bronze. I'm finding playing true support (heals, peels, and cc) is hard when you have a bronze ADC feeding. My solution has been to play more carry supports like Brand, Nautilus, or Lux. I start letting the ADC show me what they can do and matching their game pace, but once they die a couple of times to bad positioning and lack of communication, I take over.

I admit, this is not the best strategy for a support. Early support item builds leave little growth in my damage abilities, but support can feel useless when their ADC is useless. A quick change in item build in mid game and Brand can start ganking in other lanes, or Nautilus can become tanky enough to hold the front line in team fights.

Has anyone had this experience? Is this a bad habit that I should abandon? Are there any other carry supports that I should look at learning?

I love Nautilus support, Braum is really really strong too. Brand is a great "support". Right now lulu and janna are best supports, rushing ardent censor, redemtion and locket. Dont be scared to tell your adc what to do sometimes if the adc proves to be stupid

I have. When I was in Bronze, I had a tough time, I think I spent one season there. What I did to climb out, was I jungled. I used champs like Elise, Lee Sin, Jarvin, (at the time they were meta picks), but it got be out. I would always get to Bronze 3 and fall back down, and that is when I switched.

For supporting, I would use champs like Lulu and Karma as well. If your adc is showing positioning issues or is not comfortable on the champ, you're going to want to keep him as alive as possible. Granted Tank supports are great for peel and cc, but it's low ELO and hyper carry adc's are what should be used. I would even add Annie to that bunch as well. She is a hyper carry champ in general. Once you get some kills under your belt, you can roam lanes.

I would roam as much as you can, it will shake things up in the ELO that people are not use to seeing, and it can give you the best outcome. I would get into the habit until you get out of Bronze, and get into Silver. I personally am Silver 2 right now, and it does get better, slightly. Here it's a combo of sorts, tank and mage supports, accept if the mage supports damage is crucial mid/late game.

hope this helps, let me know if you have other questions.

It's good that you roam other lanes. I find taric good to shield and heal people getting caught out and a ult to help keep your carries that wants to hug the people who want to kill them alive.

Find an adc that does well overall. Not just has one good game and sucks the rest. Like I have a mulitude of adcs that I can play and have 59% winrate in flex and 51% winrate in solo almost 85% adc. So if you find someone that can play consistently with you. I would consider to just duo as much as you can. its better too have two players of the 5 that aren't idiots but also keep in mind that you won't carry every game it just doesnt happen unless if you do then you just dont belong in this elo. But that is definitely something i would recommend. I started bronze 5 in both flex and solo and im now im s5 solo and b1 100 lp flex. Most of those are duos.

I've never been to bronze. I can't really say what kind of players they are

I've seen some replays from the low bronze and it's bad. No one cares for vision, or punishes that. I'd imagine, building sightstone

Go damage and become like a second carry or full build for whatever you are playing. The idea is to make players follow your lead

I think one of the issues with lower ELO, is that, even when the Support is good at granting utility at the right time, it's up to the other players to use that utility. It annoys me to no end, when I have the river warded, but the others don't use that vision. Similarly with a well placed Redemption, but no one stays in the area.

Also in Lower ELO, with the solo laner's farm not being as good. The gold disparity is much smaller than it normally would be. And a carry support can really approach APC levels. (especially if they snowball kills) Though the difficulty here is that if your ADC is actually good, you're not going to take over lane, and the utility becomes more important that the ability to carry.

I main support in the lower ELO, and figuring out what the team actually needs feels like a toss up. So I end up maining very generalist supports, who have a good mix.

Why do they run out of my redemption! [zombie-brand-facepalm] RIOT needs to do a public service announcement on the home page in client that tells players that the redemption circle is a good thing, stay inside. :)

couple things:

if you wanna duo with a silver 4 tryna climb back out, shoot me a request i was gold last season. im a solo lane main but i can adc pretty well if you want

HEY THERE :D

so, ur new at league! welcome to the small part of the community that isn't braindead <3

i can play any role pretty proficiently but not faker level at any of them. I peaked in S3 by hitting plat1 d5 ish

from what i've seen, there are 3 things you need when finding a champion

  1. FUN FUN FUN the champion has to be fun or you're just gunna get bored and start looking for another champ ex) old warwick
  2. playstyle you need to find someone that fits ur style. VERY specifically. if you main carry supports, damage or utility? if damage, zone control like lux or pure dmg like brand? stuff like that is helpful
  3. practice this ones a no brainer but practicing makes you better. When you practice a new champion it also helps to add another champion to your pool.

for me personally, i would recommend braum because he is tanky as hell, can save ur monkey of an adc, has decent dmg for a tank, scales well and has lane pressure, easy to learn: hard to master, fun as SHiT

hope i helped :D see you on the fields of justice summoner :D

I've had a similar issue. My suggestion is to look into split-push builds. My personal favorite is Braum with Iceborn Gauntlet and Sunfire Cape. He pushes super fast, and is still a valuable support when building this way. Zz'rot works well, too, and scales Stand Behind Me pretty good.

nami carries pretty hard without csing.

If you are stuck in bronze, you may simply not have the inherent ability to improve. I mean, if a diamond player was sitting by you, telling you what to do, sure you might have the mouse input ability, but you might not have the self-motivated learning ability required to improve alone. It is OK to not be able to improve. Most people can't improve their lot in life.

Wow, thank you all for the great advice. I'll be putting a lot of it to practice as I continue to learn to play the role. I think it will only help the game to get more players in the support role, and knowing how to cope with low ELO ADCs is the first lesson a bronze support needs to learn.
